Default What happened to Japanese Styling?

I mean, what happened?

Japanese cars in the 90's were awesome. They had killer styling. They were lean and sleek.

(Btw, that MR2 is one of my favorites, Dayamn)

But now, these gorgeous little sportscars are replaced by ugly, bloated cars.

The era of Japanese fire breathing turbo charged cars is dead.

Savor what you can find.

It's just evolution. The New RX-8 is no more bloated than the older RX-7. I don't see a problem here. Everyone is going to be like "yeah, the MR2 sucks now", but toyota didn't have much of a choice I imagine. The older MR2 must've had poor sales. So they looked for a market that was seemingly untapped. They went for the miata, and for all intensive purposes, they created a car that equals the miata in price and value.

Mopar, of curiousity, Would you take RX7 over RX8? Would you take MR2 Turbo over MR2 Spyder? Would you take R33 GT-R over V35 Skyline? I think that your answer to all these questions will be yes

MR2 is just so bland.. But the RX8 and G35 don't look that bad IMO. and the new NSX looks pretty damn nice with the "old" one.

the new mr2 didn't sell to weel either. '05 is the last year for both the mr2 and the celica. now all toyota has going for it is the IS/altezza. There is supposedly a "v-10 toyota supercar" coming out, but i doubt that will sell either. They just need to bring back a simple, turbo, rwd coupe.

It does seem to just have disappeared eh? But that R33 shouldn't be there - looks shocking. And I personally don't mind the look of the V35 Skyline, nor the RX-8. I reckon they look pretty dang slick.

i loved the old mr2, skyline, supra looks
they used to be simple but nice, long but fast

the new ones just remind me of the cars made by the koreans, weird curves, weirder handlamps & no sense of style

RX8 is pretty ugly..
V35 has alot of room for improvement...
R33 GT-R IMO is the worst looking of the GT-R's.

Cars are getting uglier. IMO the R32 was the best looking GT-R, and the V35 is just ugly.
RX7 was fantastic. RX8 is ugly.
Don't start me on the MR2.
Older model celica's versus newer models..
Honda NSX.
The list goes on, and maybe cars will continue getting uglier. Only time will tell..

I don't really see what the problem everyone has with the RX-8. Did everyone really think it was going eclipse the RX-7? The RX-7 and RX-8 was always going to be totally different. It just seems that comparions between the RX-7 and the RX-8 are too common. They are totally different cars, besides the rotary engine! You can't have the same guidelines for the RX-7 and then apply those same guidelines for the RX-8, it's just not logical. Of course the RX-8 would fail them - they are totally different. I think that's really the stumbling point for the reputation of the RX-8.
