1-Which model RX? The 7 or 8, which model of the 7 if that's it.
2-What's it going to be used for? 3-What's the price range and willingness to pay repair/ replacement costs. Having said that...Welcome to SCF! And a general rule of thumb I don't think anyone will argue with the RX7 or 8 is that the 8 is a better *car*. It has better gas mileage, more seating, better luggage room, and more features to keep you occupied when you're not carving corners. The RX7 is a full on sportscar in my eyes, with toooons of aftermarket support in case you'd feel like modifying them. I just did a google search for 3rd Gen RX7's and got tooons of specialty sites.

The porblem with the RX....is the engine (renesis)
it doesnt have the same reliability of the normal piston engine it need more carefull than the piston engine......and not all the mechanics can work in that..... |

Bro......they suck. I assume that you are talking about the RX8 as the 7's are obviously not new. They lack one very important thing.......torque.

There is a local RX7 with a slew of uprades and from what he tells me makes 480WHP (I think he's full of it) and he can beat me off the line but on the highway he can't hold his own when I'm at low boost (440WHP).

the renesis engine (after the 1st year of the RX-8), isn't so bad I heard.
But if is in the first year, many ppl had to get rebuilds. |

Renesis engines for me are very very good:
- For performances - For quality ( I think guaranteed 700.000 Km/h ) |

Quality??? yeahh maybe it has a good quality......but almost all the RX7 in the market of used car, has problems with the engine.......here in my country I only see 3 of them in the used car market....and the three of them the engine present problems of overheating....and you can't find a mechanic with a great experience with the renesis engine easily.... Yeahh it has a good performance.....but it has a lack of torque......(279 HP.....yeahh cool.....but when you see the torque...like 155 LBft torque more or less....its not as good as it look).. the real advantage of the RX is the handling......that's really a good point of this car.... |

The benefit of a Rotary engine, and the RX cars in general was never the max power, torque, or anything like that. Their advantage comes in play with the location of the engine and the engine weight. The 13B and Renesis are light, beer keg-sized, and located more towards the center of the car. This helps with front/rear weight distribution and handling. It was always known that the FD RX-7 has one of, if not the best compromise between power and handling on the Japanese market. When Motor Trend (it might have been Car & Driver) first tested an FD, it recieved the lowest breaking distance in they had ever seen on a production car (99 ft. 60-0).
FD's from around 4th gen onward can also reach around 400HP with little more than a boost controller and a few mods. If you choose any RX, I recommend the FD RX-7, because it has the best handling/horsepower balance out of any of them. If you are looking for a 400m dominator, look somewhere else. It is true that Rotaries requrie a bit more care than piston based engines do, though.

its sad that the rxs engines don't last it makes my eyes water, but man if you gotta go with a Rx go with the 7, its way sexier and is badass so is the 8 but less

actually, I've done some research.
RX-8 build dates after the 1st year - 1.5 year have reliable engines. The engines be4 that, most of them has gotten rebuilds, or so said the forum members. |
