If I had the choice, i'd make mine RWD..Then AWD then FWD... FWD is fun, and produces some nice burnouts...But I don't like hopping tires..

What about..
RSX 3000GT (VR-4) 300ZX (TT) MR2 (New spyder or 1st gen Turbo) Prelude (Gen IV or V) ...? All of them are great stock and even better modified. All very tunable. BTW - I dont know if your wife likes full blown manuals but the Gen V Prelude (97-01) has a tiptronic automatic tranny. Something to consider..

sorry fwd burnouts are
![]() but for a daily driver fwds are good on gas and they're pretty cheap. look for a scion tc or a sentra ser, those are pretty good cars for daily drivers that also offer some "ooomph". |

Wow. I'm really off tonight. Maybe I better call it quits. I guess the Spyder is 3rd gen. I was thinking it was 2nd gen, which again confused me. To further see my clumsiness look at the GT vs. F430 comparison and Ghalos' street racing story.

Scion tC gets 160 HP, and the TRD version gets 200 HP. It's a 2 door coupe too.

Excellent post, Bubba. I fit into a Miata but even an X1/9 would be better for trips. I wish they made a coupe version; ragtops are for street cruising (I got hair).
I prefer RWD but the cheapest FWD fun on your list is the Sentra SE-R. They are so ordinary looking even with the spoiler that lots of dull (non-ricer/non-leadfoot) folks bought them. Just yesterday I had a run on a green light behind a stock SE-R driver who thought I wanted his lane; he romped a puff of grey smoke, indicating the car was not abused very much. There were lots of aftermarket mods available at one time. There are lots of tinworm-free 2nd gen Mitsu "e-clips" in GA, but probably few turbos that haven't been abused. What platform/drivetrain is a Scion TC built on anyway? A Lexus IS300 offers Toyota reliabilty on a proven I-6 RWD drivetrain with a bit of weight. (How's the car search going, ckg690?) |

Well, first and foremost, I'd like to know how big of a backseat are we looking for here? Without considering backseat leg room, I would suggest a used RSX Type-S if possible. Their pretty good stock, and offer a multitude of suspension upgrades due to their popularity. I know that you said that a WRX is out of your wallet boundry, but I am assuming you are talking about a new one. What about a used EVO VII or WRX. 4-door, 4WD, both pretty nimble (although not as much as the Miata). I'm not sure how much a used one would cost, but I hope it's within your budget. Oh yes, and all are very tuner friendly as well.

hmm... This is a good question. I really like this, I'm actually thinking. Have we a set price limit to reach? What would be considered a Daily Driver? 30G and below? 25G and below?
For a DD, I'd have to say there isn't the best (one singularly), but there are a collective bunch. Personally, I'd pick the Toyota MR2 (mid 1990's), RSX-s, SRT-4 (american however), Miata, Celica, Peugot 206

The Mr2 is a good idea, except it's still RWD! Prelude/RSX = only good sudgestions. |

Yes, she likes manual shift. RSX is a good choice, as is an MR2 or a Prelude. She works downtown at Columbus State University and parks around a bunch of people who are less than concerned about things like door dings and other stuff that happens to cars in an urban parking lot. I've heard the 3000GTVR4 is not very reliable. Is this true? All of the 3000Gtvr4's I see come up for sale are ridden hard and put away wet. I do see nice 3000GTVR4's but they don't seem to come up for sale when I ahve the cash in hand to buy them. Chris |
