Can chevrolet still hang with the best in compact-midsize sport cars??
I know they have the vette, but nothing else new. They discontinued the camaro in 2000 or 2001. Will the SS keep them with the rest of the field?

Ok first off Camaro was discontinued in 2002, that was its last year. I personally feel that if Chevy pulls through with there Chevy SS (nickname: Chevelle) which is currently a concept car, they have a good chance of heading back to the top of American muscle. In conclusion, i still believe that Chevy produces the best American cars.

yuck, i hate the SS concept. It's realy weird. I think the Impala SS will put chevy back in the midsize performance market. It's no M3 or S4, but it's probaly the best midsize car coming out of the american auto infastructure. The Monte Carlo SS isn't really that great and anything coming out of chysler that claims it's a midsize performance car is a joke. Ford has the SVT line, but no midsize or full size car, except for the marauder (which is my favortie car coming out of Ford).

I actually like the SS. But the thing about car manufacturers is they all have their "flagship" sportscar. For Chevy its the Vette. Sounds as if the SS as a concept is better than the Vette. So what will happen is either the SS would become the new icon for Chevy(most likely wont happen) or they will knock down the HP and performance of it so we wont really want it. Who know though. Anyone know what kind of engine the SS has. Its not a pushrod is it?

Well here are the stats on the SS concept. It has a small block V8 engine (small block???) that produces 430 horsepower. It is RWD (ofcourse) and it comes with a 4-L65E four speed auto transmisson or 6-speeed manual. Believe it or not it seats 5 people. You know what is funny. Chevy says its "The family sedan with muscle". Family sedan huh? I thought it was supposed to be a sport car. Oh well

The thing thats appealing to seating 5 is that your typical married man with children can have an excuse to own such a car. He can pick up the kids, the wife, the groceries, and drop them all off at home just to leave again and still smoke someone on the street. Im not sure where Saman is from but this is how your vintage muscle car came to be. I think since GM had such tremendous success with the "muscle cars", and since there is such a huge following and demand for that type of car, it just makes sense to build them. The pocket rocket market is pretty much saturated and they wouldnt be able to compete. But really, I would like to see the car "comfortably" seat five.
Small block simply means that is takes up less space by using smaller low end engine components. I would say typically an engine less than 360 Cu in. is a small block.

Small block just means that the engine block is under 375 cubic inches.

It has a 6.0 liter engine, That is huge. Yes i do agree with the children and groceries in the back and still smoke someone. I would love to see this car produce,my guess would be the price would be between 45 to 55 grand.

Muscle yes, but not in the same segment as before, it's funny both Chevy and Ford introduced a Muscle Sedan at the same year, i think same expo too, chevy had the SS with 6 litre push-rod small block v8 producing 430bhp, and the Ford 427 wit their mighty V-10 doing 590bhp

let's see. A 440 is 7.2 liters, so 6.0 would be around 400 or somehting. I couldn't see that car go into production. They'll probaly put the camaro back into production before the SS. Think of how badd it would handle. Muscle cars could go really fast in a straight line, but couldn't stop or turn well. The SS is based off the same concept. It's competitors would blow it off the street.

hmm, i didn't think of that. Yes i do think the Camaro would come before the Chevy SS

its more like 366 cubic inches, you have to divide against 16.38 btw,
I dont think the SS would be that bad at handling, it wont beat a vette, but it would do the job quite right

Chevy SS eh? wait, sorry, I'm a bit confused. Ahm, the SSR or the SS? I'm mad a Chevy fro simply making these cocnept cars the same year with insanely similar names. I'd look to see which is which, but again, I'm the lazy one :) I'd just like to remind everyone though that it IS a concept and the engine is 80% likely to be downgraded. Look at the new new new Ford Mustang concept, you think they're gonna make those engines en mass ? anyway, put up a link if you don't mind for whichever SS related vehicle was meant to be disscused here. thanks bunches!
MSG'ed!

The SS. Thats what were talking about. The SSR is that really small useless trulet thing thats really slow. The SS is what chevy is considering for the gap between the monte carlo SS and the corvette. What were you saying about the mustang comcept? I think it will go into production. I think the 427 engine will come into play too. But in a current sedan, like the mecury marauder (oh man, how cool would that be!).

I dunno if i have anything good to say, but here goes.
I thought since the car is being talked aoubt as if its totally for sure going to be produced, it was the SSR P/T killer. Thats why I was confused, that car is coming out at the end of this year. Chevy had, has, and probaly won't have anything to fill the Camaro gap for at least 2 or more years. The SS is a concept car and will stay that way.
Don't they have a NAME for this car? SS is an options package for many chevy cars and a truck now. Thats just kinda weak if you ask me. Make another Camaro and give it the SS badge. Super Sport is a crap, totally uninspired name. It's not going to be made(and yes, you can totally lay into me if it does)
Ford has not said ANYTHING about the production powertrains for the New Mustang. What will be most likely make it first year into the new horsey will be 210hp 4.0liter SOHC V-6 currently used in the Explorer along with an OHC V-8. They really don't know if they're going with DOHC or SOHC for that one. The 400 hp Supercharged V-8 from the concept car is a HANDBUILT peice from the SVT gang. You don't make HANDBUILT engines en mass.

Well chevy Says production is a 85% possibilty, and by the way the SS badge is the greatest name a car could recieve, but they put it on cars not worthy like the Impala and monte carlo. If they came with a Vette SS, i would love it

This may be a little off subject but if they do produce the SS hopefully it will have parts in common with other cars such as the vette. All GM vehicles need to have more interchangeable parts with other GM vehicles. I happen to think the SS is a great concept but in concept form. It will likely be watered down if it ever hits production. The strange thing is that Honda is actually more like a muscle car than the current brands that composed the muscle cars of old. The engine components are completely interchangeable and so are some chassis parts. Same goes for Nissan. Their 300zx, skyline, and 240sx share many components. Thats why these tuner cars have become so popular. I dont know how true this is or will be for GM products but im pretty sure a Corvette motor wont have matching motor mounts with a Impala SS. Impala SS? Its fromt wheel drive for crying out loud. The SS badge has really been tarnished. If they can manage to produce the SS, not water it down, and make parts interchangeable (not junk parts), I can see GM being back on the map as far as sports cars go. And bring some "bling" back to the SS name.

I totally agree, the SS Monte Carlo only puts out the same numbers as an Accord, and the SS is supercharged. Bleh bleh. I still think this car need a NAME! and will not be produced until the 2007 year........maybe. The other contenders for a new sedan are current Holden platforms that year Oh and Chevy will be making the storied Impalas and Montes again with V-8 RWD setups........in 2006.

Yes. I do hope that the true SS name comes back like the old days with the Chevelle SS and etc. Now days the SS is just used to loosely, only cars worthy of it should have, such as the Camaro, The vette (even though there is no SS model), and hopefully this soon to come SS. And yes i think they will give it a name other then SS.

I dont think so, maybe in the Ford GT at the later years..............590HP, thats on of the finest late ford engines, lighter and smaller than the viper engine, it would be hell expensive, so i dont think that one can get into production of a muscle sedan, maybe the new 5.0 Litre DOHC V8 crate engine making out 425HP NA and 375lb-fts of torque with a bit more compression than 8:1

Hrm. Hey gr8dane, you think you could whittle down your sig. a bit? It's not really neccisary. Are these cars you have, want, like, ran into? Please xplain, listing cars randomly is kinda irritating. Oh, I've been to 5 too many "ant-rice" websites and i dearly hope you are not a fan, member, or frequent veiwer of such self centered hatred. Anyone displaying negative ignorance is gonna hear from me. I do my best to absolve these issues. I'm only taking cues from your Avatar.
