if memory serves correctly, 245 HP for the 6, and 310 HP or so for the 8

All I read so far is that the base I6 is being replaced by a new V6.

Why? why doesit look so bland to me? Like the NEWER IS300, they made it look more plain for me. This car looks very boring with some funky headlights. I'm so confused, I finally thought Lexus was going to pull some sweet moves. Ah well, such is life :p

Basic GM marketing: Take your base model car, put some different emblems on it, sell that Cavalier as a Cadillac Cimmaron and make $$$

People like them in the states because Lexus marketed itself not as the more expensive toyota, but as a better car than the others, and one the average person could afford. Toyota didn't try to bill it as a performance car brand, and not as a rich person's icon brand (mercedes). With the IS300, and the new GS, they are NOW going after those people who would spend their $$$ at BMW (great engines but not the greatest design except for the new 6 and 7 series) or Audi (great design, but still a turbo VW).

At its heart, its still a Toyota. Toyota is the Japanese GM, and it takes a looooong time to get the ship to change direction. They are just now focusing on making its engines as powerful or more than Honda and Nissan, but they are way behind.

mrboone2 has a point. The Lexus, Infinity and Acura divisions are pure marketing tricks. Nothing more than Toyotas, Nissans and Hondas with a different badge. And that is only because some ppl in the US do not wish to be seen inside a Toyota/Nissan/Honda.
