This is caused by your PC, not the forum. The majority doesn't have any issues, and the few that complained so far were mostly using Macs. I suggest that you use Windows XP (updated!) with IE, which is still the most reliable combination.

This is what one of the developers of vBulletin suggested regarding issues with logging:
If it's happening on these forums then the issue is somewhere on your end. It's impossible to know exactly what it is but some possibilities are: browsers, browser settings, Internet and security settings, ISP and/or cache issues, firewalls, ad-blockers, and any other application that affects Internet content.

I would think its both the forum/server and the internet/computer. When people type, like now for example, the forum should keep you logged in. This is done by cookies installed in your temporary internet folder. if for any reason, the server/forum cannot read the cookie, it iwll log you off. It could have been a little disconnection, a little slow, or just a computer brainfart. Happens all the time.

But, I have another problem which I think Rollin can fix:
When I erase my web history, ( cookies, temp files etc ) It logs me off as it should. When I go to log in, it doesn't let me. I do it and it tells me Welcome Erind, and sends me to login screen again. Then I try it with the "remember me" option checked, it works. the remember me, installs a cookie. when you login it doesnt installa cookie, or just a cookie but with no password/screen name info. So it means everytime I reload the page, it logs me off since I am not remembered... Any fixes?

Oct 16, 2005, 1:11 PM
The problem is not in the forum, since the logging works just fine for most members. :)

A lot of things can affect the login system. I can't tell you exactly what's wrong because I don't know what your settings are. But if you use Windows XP, I may be able to solve your problem. PM me.

Heres the steps for making firefox faster, it really does work and you can notice the difference:

1.Type “about:config” into the address bar and hit return. Scroll down and look for the following entries:

network.http.pipelining network.http.proxy.pipelining network.http.pipelining.maxrequests

Normally the browser will make one request to a web page at a time. When you enable pipelining it will make several at once, which really speeds up page loading.

2. Alter the entries as follows:

Set “network.http.pipelining” to “true”

Set “network.http.proxy.pipelining” to “true”

Set “network.http.pipelining.maxrequest s” to some number like 30. This means it will make 30 requests at once.

3. Lastly right-click anywhere and select New-> Integer. Name it “nglayout.initialpaint.delay” and set its value to “0″. This value is the amount of time the browser waits before it acts on information it receives.

If you’re using a broadband connection you’ll load pages MUCH faster now!

I used to use FireFox, but all the different things, like the way the download manager is and all that crap annoys me so I went back to IE. I have no spyware or virus what so ever. I used to do what slezak did to his FireFox but for some weird reason, the icons always dissapear.

did u use skins?

HINT: Use normal skin. it might be a bit ugly, but its the fastest. Everytime you use a skin, even in windows xp skin, the computer gets slower because it has to do that thing everytime you open a new window.

The problem with Firefox is that:
a) it's not reliable
b) it's supposed to be safer because it has many useful, but potentially dangerous, features disabled by default (including activeX, I believe). That's unnecessary for more experienced users that know what they are doing. Don't be surprised that some websites won't work properly with Firefox.

It is a problem between the connectio of server to user. Who hosts you anyway?
As I have said many times already, the problem can't be on this end, because only a handful of users experience these problems and the majority of them uses Macs, Firefox or some other, even more exotic browser/OS combination. Those systems have known issues that are beyond our control so the website may not work properly (not just SCF). Use Windows XP and IE with the latest updates. If the cookies still don't work properly, then you need to check things that are mentioned in the quote in my first post (especially IE > Internet Options > Privacy).

The server is hosted at www.dedicatedcentral.com (http://www.dedicatedcentral.com) .

Rollin

I have it installed, but I just use it for testing.

Edit:
For all of you that use Firefox and have logging issues; delete your cookies first. Go to Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies > View Cookies and delete all cookies from sportscarforums.com AND www.sportscarforums.com, make sure that "Allow sites to set cookies" is checked and "Keep cookies" is set to "until they expire", then restart Firefox and log to SCF again with "Remember me" checked.

Also, always access SCF with OR without the "www." part. If you use both, you may have problems with cookies. At least I had.

So you are saying that the ones like TopSecret, should throw their macs away just for SCF? great going...

just playing...

Firefox does have some disadvantages, although it is much safer for normal users. A lot of CSS coding does not appear on Fifefox, leaving webdesigners, to make two models of a website, or just one that fits both, with some drawbacks (features missing). Firefox is improving however, working toward the best and as time passes, there are upgrades that allow more and more options to be used, such as CSS...

The problem stands at the CSS and Code accepting of Firefox. Many codes accepted on IE are simple, but with some knowledge, a webdesigner or basically anyone who wants to, can make the codes in such way that it will download files onto your computer wthout you even knowing, AT ALL!

And yes, I know a lot about webdesigning, just not hardware/software bs. Webdesigning, I will kill all of you!

Perhaps, but this would only be a problem if the files would self-install on the PC, which I think isn't the case.

And yes, I know a lot about webdesigning, just not hardware/software bs.
Great, then you can figure out what's wrong with your Firefox that it can't manage a simple cookie. :) Have you tried to delete your cookies?

I delete cookies every other day or so. Its not that. Its the coding issue, and the simple communicating issue. firefox sometimes has brainfarts... like it will take 20 hours to load google.com. just close it and reopen it and its like electromagnetic radiation again.

I don't have a single problem. Maybe cause I use a Palmone smartphone. Cookies ar harmless but cause I have a small memory on the phone I have to errase them once every month cause they take a lot of space and my phone become slow.. 30MB internal memory and 75MB extention card.

PM Ghalos and include links to threads where this happened. It's not a problem if someone double posts a few times of course, but if he or she is doing it all the time then something should be done about it.

^Yep, what he said. I have MSN messenger, and I'm usually near my laptop, and when I get a PM on SCF I get a pop up saying I got a new email...So I can usually act on it immediately.

Having said that, I can't mod every single thread at every single moment, that's why all the other mods are here. =)
