Well, what do you think about those new FSI engines that Audi and some other companies have created? Are they the future or will they be short-lived?

well audi are definetly goign to keep it on. Their 2.0 litre petrol engine has been there bestselling petrol ever, which implies its what poeple want.
-15% better fuel conspumtion/emits less polluting gases
-More power/torque at all ranges.
-better 'throttle' response.
Who wouldnt want that?

The Audi R8 (winner of the Le Mans prototype class) wears a powerful FSI engine! :D
The new Audi Nuvolari Quattro will also wear a V10 FSI engine.

In an FSI engine, the fuel is injected directly into the cylinder, and not into a small compartment before the cylinders. You can find some information in the Audi site here (http://www.audi.com/jsp/crossfeatures/lexicon/lexiconDetails.jsp?lexiconId=17387&lexic onChar=F&domainId=1&languageId=4). You can find even more information if you search in the net or in car sites.

It's a relatively new technology and primarily used by Audi (Merc also has a few direct injection engines, I think they name their models something like CLK 200 CGI), so it should be difficult to find info... But don't worry, we'll get more details soon enough! :D

This is really new stuff here in the U.S.
There are only 2 cars in the U.S. that utilizes direct injection. I think one is an Isuzu and one is a Benz, but I could be wrong.

you what the funny thing about FSI is :?: :?: It make the hemi pointless. there would be no need for hemisphereical combustion if it combust's directly on the piston.

There's no reference in the official Audi site. Here's all that's there:
"FSI® direct injection technology increases the torque and power of spark-ignition engines, makes them as much as 15 percent more economical and reduces exhaust emissions. In contrast to conventional intake manifold injection on conventional spark-ignition engines, FSI® engines inject fuel directly into the combustion chambers. This technology dispenses with the throttle plate. That ‘unthrottles’ the engine, reduces heat loss and thus increases output while reducing fuel consumption.
The system uses two charge-air supply modes: stratified charge at partial load and homogeneous operation at full load. In the stratified charge mode, an combustible fuel-air mixture is only produced in a defined zone around the spark plug. The engine management electronics monitor engine load and adjust injection timing, pressure, quantity parameters as well as the air flow inside the cylinder via the air intake channel. At full load, FSI® increases compression as well as engine efficiency and performance."

I didn't know it increased the compression...
8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8)
So it's good performance with not that much fuel consumption...
I like it 8)
