wait are you making fun of Initial D. i have never seen it b4 but i hear it is great. my magizine reviewed it. they said thatit changed the way the looked at cartoons forever. they said that the driftig in that show is so accruate and awsome. the cars they use are real. and the moutains they drift on are real. they gave it a 10 out of 10. they even said that they will start to watch Initial D if they have anymore seasons to be put on air. and we are talking about ages from 22-40 i am guessing. and they said they would watch it anytime.
and i would too. but my parents think me buying/ordering it on comcast is silly because it is a cartoon.
i wonder if i post a taoic on this on the adult swim boards . if i could talk them into airing it after somesohw is done. it sounds farfetched but it would be awsome if i got them to agree. but it is a 99% chance of a no. because not everyone knows about cars, let alone car about drifting.

actually here I will give you the list of most of the drift techs. I would give give the link to the site, but hte site goes down a lot. so I'll just copy and paste.
Technique Run Down
Most of these techniques should not be practiced until you have mastered the basics of traction loss and counter control. They can be very hazardous if you don't have a strong understanding of the basic techniques.
Race Drift
this is performed at race speeds, when entering a high speed corner a driver lifts his foot off the throttle to induce a mild over steer and then balances the drift through steering and throttle motions. (note the car that is being used for this style of drift should be a neutral balanced car therefore the over steer will induce itself, if the car plows through any turn this technique will not work)
Braking Drift
this is performed by trail braking into a corner, then loss of grip is obtained and then balance through steering and throttle motions. (note this is mainly for medium to low speed corners)
Studder Cut
this is performed by rocking the car towards the outside of a turn and then using the rebound of grip to throw the car into the normal cornering direction. (note this is heavy rally racing technique used to change vehicle attitudes during cornering, mainly tight mountain corners)
Clutching
this is performed by depressing the clutch pedal on approach or during a mild drift to give a sudden jolt through the driveline to upset rear traction.
Shift Lock
this is performed by letting the revs drop on downshift into a corner and then releasing the clutch to put stress on the driveline to slow the rear tires inducing over steer. (this is like pulling the E-brake through a turn)
Side Braking
this technique is very basic, pull the E-Brake or (side brake) to induce rear traction loss and balance drift through steering and throttle play. (note this can also be used to correct errors or fine tune drift angles)
Dirt Drop
this is performed by dropping the rear tires off the road into the dirt to maintain or gain drift angle without losing power or speed and to set up for the next turn. (note this technique is very useful for low horsepower cars)
Jump Drift
in this technique the rear tire on the inside of a turn or apex is bounced over a curb to lose traction resulting in over steer.
Long Slide Drift (chokudori)
this is done by pulling the E-brake through a strait to start a high angel drift and to hold this to set up for the turn ahead. (note this can only be done at high speed)
Swaying Drift
this is a slow side-to-side faint like drift where the rear end sways back and forth down a straight-away.

Nov 05, 2004, 10:57 PM

Dirt Drop
this is performed by dropping the rear tires off the road into the dirt to maintain or gain drift angle without losing power or speed and to set up for the next turn. (note this technique is very useful for low horsepower cars)
and everytime I would see this technique I would all ways think they messed up. but now I see how it is very useful, cheap but useful.

Import_Tuner420
Nov 27, 2004, 9:06 PM
OMG... I can't believe half the people on this forum like cars and don't know the truth. Just because someone is drifting doesn't mean they're going to tear up their car. If you know what you're doing then you won't Wreck, but when you get kids that get out there and don't practice safely on closed courses and get excited, you end up with accidents. I've attended a Performance Driving School and studied what many Drift Experts (people who are National and Global champs) And yeah.. if you don't believe me... Go pick up the latest issue of Import Tuner.. They're covering the US .vs. JGTC (Japan Grand Touring Championship) Drift Battle.
First off, As with any car made in the past 20 years, as long as you know what you're doing, you don't need any work done to a car to Drift. All Drift is, put simply, is an understeer of the front wheels while the rear wheels have obviously lost traction, and are spinning. If you enter with too much loss of traction, you'll never regain the rear traction to exit the corner.
I have drifted two cars, a Stock 92' Nissan Sentra E with a respectable 1.6L DOHC and a quick 4 Speed Manual. The other is a Stock 91' Toyota Corolla Standard Sedan, with a 1.6L SOHC and a 5 Speed Automatic. The most important thing to remember before you laugh is that I'm not racing...I'm performance Cornering... I've had mishaps in both cars, and I not going to say they're the best... But for the thrill of feeling the car sliding on all four wheels while you are taking a sharp corner, both have been great. Even though they're both FF's (Front Engine, Front Wheel Drive)
Now wait You're Saying... "You drifted a Front wheel Drive? That's impossible" No. It's not. As I said, all a Drift consists of is Understeer while rear traction is lost. By Yanking on my Emergency Brake and keeping my rear wheels locked, I'm doing a Braking Drift. I can either use my Brake Pedal, or my Accelerator, to cause my Front Wheels to lose traction while I'm steering, thus meaning I'm performing a 4 Wheel Braking Drift. Look it up, it's a real technique. :) Recovery is tricky if you don't know the behavior of your car, which is why it's important to go to some sort of school where you can use YOUR car to learn it's reaction to Steering input at both low speeds and high speeds. If you don't know how your car is going to react when you swing the rear end out to slide into a 90 degree corner at 50 m.p.h., you might end up off the course, or worse if you're on the street.
The only problems I've had are my OWN as I'm learning. The cars have never had any faults, I've just gotten too confident with my skills and messed up. Though I'm proud to say I beat a Mustang in a downhill Race with the Sentra... Simply because the other guy was too scared to keep up, but winning's winning.

What are you, an idiot? First you say that you won't tear up a car by drifting, then you tell us your 'technique' - yanking the emergency brake. What exactly do you think that does to the emergency brake, not to mention the tires? Hint: it's not being gentle.

I agree, as example...Personal experience...
Last winter I had just gotten almost eight hundred dollars worth of rear braking work done on my car. New Rotors, calipers, lines, and pads...Most importantly, I had gotten the E-brake fixed, it was slipping. And here we get about 2 feet of snow, it was that huuuuge blizzard we had last Dec...Anyways, I got me and two of my other buddies and their cars and we went to a huuuuuge empty parking lot and just went about 25 and did slides, fun, and the cars were fine...
Pulling the e-brake to break traction in THOSE conditions managed to completely negate the entire work I had done on it. It slipped just as much as it had a month before the work was done. And I felt bad...
I found in those conditions, the 160 bhp would do the trick fine, and balancing about 3,000 rpms in first and half braking kept the car stationary and I was able to do stationary donuts...

I'll try to do it again this winter, get a vid, and toss it up here, just bug me about it later this month.

Well even under normal granny driving conditions you aren't doing your car any good... I'm sure any of the more intelligent people here know that it's worse on your car doing the daily "get to work stop 'n' go" routine than to be out cruising at 75 or 80 m.p.h. on the open highway, but as far as "tearing" my car up, no... I don't. The brakes have to be changed anyway, and the tires must be balanced and rotated... and every once and a while completely changed, So at any rate I'm simply speeding up the rate of wear on said parts of my car. I am not however, causing it excessive damage. I mostly only drive hard on the weekends when I'm bored. And one note I might add... I've found from personal experience that one of the best ways to obtain results is to see what works and what doesn't. I've found that using Worn in Brakes and Tires can help a Front Engine, Front Wheel drive car to slip more "naturally". See the difference in drifting a FF and a FR (Front Engine, Rear Wheel drive) is that in a FR, you're guiding the car with the front wheels and causing Loss of traction with the rear. Well since I have no way of doing that with a FF, I have to adjust my setup. Using nearly "bald" tires and brakes that are not shot, but not the best, allows for a much smoother handling. There isn't a sharp jerk caused by the tires suddenly gripping at their full potential, with plenty of tread, and there isn't quite as bad of a shift in the weight of the car when I'm applying brakes. To each their own, and what works for me may not work for you, but I think it's pretty rude to make negative remarks about the way I choose to drive my cars. I didn't start any name calling, outside suggesting half the people here listened to the bull their parents fed them about cars. We've all been told I'm sure, that cars aren't meant to do those kinds of things. And Yes, there are alot of high performance upgrades that can take a car that stock would be thought less of, and turn it around into an amazing machine, but let's not forget that as long as we're willing to spend money on the car, it can do anything you'd like with a little skill and some paitence. I've done damage to my cars... The only things I've had are "curb-checks" where I slid into a curb. My most costly repair? $182.23 for a bent Front-Passenger side Steering control arm on the Toyota. Everything else? a new Tire/Rim. Whopping $35 a rim for the toyota, and a unbelievable $30 for rims for the Sentra, when I had it. Prime example, my "friend" stole the Sentra and totalled it. So apparently... I did it less harm to it then someone who simply wanted to go see his girlfriend when I was asleep. Anyway...It's a beautiful night out so I think I'm going to go for a drive. And to the person who commented on my Grammar? If I wanted to become a great writer, I'd go take a college class...But I couldn't care less. I'm more concerned with trying to make my entry into an amateur Racing circuit. :D

I love drifting my 350 bhp sierra cosworth and never take it out without having a quick slide. If you got it use it:D
