Heck yeah! Cadillac is this close to releasing the CTS-V. The Editors at Car and Driver were able to take one for a hard core spin on the Nürburgring racetrack. They were confident it will beat the pants off anything BMW int he M3 and M5 department. The estimated 0-60 time is a solid 4.7 seconds and 1/4 mile time of 13.1 seconds at 109 mph. The powerplant is the Corvette Z06 V-8!!! It's a tad bit toned down though, with 400 hp and 390 lb-ft of torque. The handling is supposed to be AWESOME! The chassi is excellent as well as the suspension, all upgraded from the normal CTS. Also it has Brembo brakes with bigass 14 inch disks. The transmission is hella upgraded and reienforced for the lurch in power from the normal model. Mmmm, BWM better watch its ass. This beauty is going to be available for something below 50 thousand US dollars for the base model. Hell yeah. GM finally makes an excellent car that I'd purchase

I agree. The new Caddies are amazing vehicles and i'd take them all any day. I'm seriously impressed by the new American looks. It's definately a huge step forewards, but still not good enough to seriously compete with the Europeans. The US only has a few models that can compare with the European sports cars ( on the market, i'm not talking about looks or performance. ). But as i stated before: I am seriously impressed by the new models.

CTS-V Rocks, the XLR is definitely competing against the great SL500, and it looks better for me, also the Z06 is selling well in UK from a magazine i read, Lincoln LS's handling is Europe like, it just needs some more power, and even the next Mustang will be aimed against the European Coupes (maybe not the Mustang directly but the Mercury Messenger), the Viper is a good fighter in any segment of sports cars and can beat many euro's asses, thinks are changing...........nothing is the same

Cars like the CTS and the CTS-V are a major advancement for GM, and they tend to get American car companies out of their long slumber. They are definitely a major step towards the future. Thumbs up for their improvement.
However, like DarkVenom said, these cars and companies are far from seriously competing with European companies like BMW, Mercedes, Audi, Porsche, Ferrari and the like. I don't think they will really get ahead of them, at least not in the next 20-30 years.

The GM Performance Division boys did a great effort on bringing us this outstanding Caddy. For being honest, Cadillac is on of my favorite car maker. The CTS-V is for the BMW M3 as the Corvette Z06 is for the 911 Turbo: A direct competitor for much less money.

It might cost you much less money in the US or in Colombia, but to import an American car to Europe (especially Greece) you will need more money than you might think...

Raith u say that the M's should be afraid?? Niah..don't think so...The new M generations will be more powerful than ever...M5(500HP), M6(Same, but a CSL version will probabaly arise with almost 550hp), M3,M4(400HP)...Is that enough?

500Hp is really easy for any V8
mallon
Aug 22, 2003, 8:10 AM
why do you say that?
would you prefer them to have try really hard to get 500BHP from a 2 stroke 1 cylinder engine?
and also remember the M5 V8 is NA, so it isnt really that easy to get 500BHP e.g. a 360 doesnt get 500BHP from its V8...

Well, you're quite right jimkk. Maybe it will cost the same as an M3

Hey, don't forget the Mercedes CL55 AMG. It has a V8 that develops more than 485 HP! And has a torque of... 512 lb/ft! That's almost like a Viper SRT-10 which has 525 lb/ft!

yeah, that using a supercharer, NA it isnt just as easy!

1. The current M5 makes 400PS out of a 5 lt V8 NA, not 500.
2. I believe that the AMG V8 has twin turbochargers, not superchargers. I'm not sure though, I might be wrong.

Well, the CL55 V8 features a high-technology hielicoidal supercharger and not turbochargers.. That boosts the power to 493 HP. And boosts the max speed to... 301 Km/h!, as proven by a Motor Trend recent high speed test.

No, it is a supercharger.
Also the current M5 does produce 400BHP, but we are talking about the next generation which wil have 500BHP NA.

My friends...my innocent friends... :P , the NEW V10 that is going to give life to the NEW M5,M6 will derive straight from the F1. Technology from the Formula1...

i definetly think american cars are coming close to the quality of BMW. Infact, the CTS-V should be faster and less expensive than the M3 and the M5. Amazing. Can't wait to see what the XLR-V will look like!

Yeah! That will be one sweet street machine! I'm really amazed at Cadillac, considering it's under the watch of GM and all. Poor fellows and their high price bimmers

i think it's because nobody quite realizes what cadillac is capable of. Since BMW has been the factory standard for so long, and caddy hasn't even come close till recently, regular joes with alot of cash and no automotive knowledge at all automaticcly go to mercedes or BMW. Those two are so big, even audi's sales are nothing here compared to the big 2.

From what I see on the street every day, American cars are already beating out all competition. Pretty much all I see on the street is American with some Japanese and very few European. I live in Canada so it's probably different somewhere else. American cars kick ass!

Yah, i live in New York state, and I gotta say, not alot of big time US automakers have there sedans here, but as for sports cars...Camaro's Mustangs, Corvette's, the occasional Viper, all of those are around here...Plus a shitload of Camry's and Accord's, but alot of Pontiac Grand Am's and Grand Prix's...plus, a dozen or so BMW M's, all M3's...no 5's...
my neighbour does have a red ford thunderbird though, but he put it in storage for winter he now dirves a lincoln town car
when I went to Denver my family rented a town car...omg...luxury everywhere...leather, everything, quiet as all hell (i asked if it was running)...and a trunk, I swear, a family of five could live in comfortably...

5.0??? you mean 5.7!!!

Yeah kinda' the same here; Me and my girl, but I bought her car it's an 89 thunderbird v-6...it is quite nice; My other car is a 99 Saturn SL, which is faster than any japanese car I ever raced, (even burned some mustang GT's in that little car);
and then my current car is an 87 Camaro with an oval-track 350 in it. It produces about 495 lb/ft of torque, but it doesnt rev more than about 5000rpms......
That car is faster than a C55 AMG that my friend has, and most everything else I ever raced in it...... I have serious competition for your new generation M5, and it is also Naturally Aspirated.....bring it :)
Oh yeah and my block, in San Antonio, is about 50/50.....neighbors have a Ford truck, a Dodge truck, hmm a volvo, 2 volkswagons, another 3rd generation Camaro like mine (not nearly as fast though...)....a Mazda van.....then my 3 american cars (all better than anything foreign on my block)......I think it's a Texas thing......we like American Steel

hehe, yeah, you can make those M5 guys sweat for a while on the straight aways, but soon as the road starts to curve I think the race will be over in his favor. you and my roomie should talk to each other, he likes classic muscle cars and straight line performance as much as you do. he's always drooling every time the numbers like 4, 4, 5, or whatever the cc displacement is in these old engines, are strung together. he's always wanted something like you have, but his Mom gave him her 99 Monte Carlo LS when she got a newer one and seeing as how he is in college now he doesn't have any cash to spare for a muscle project car and he's always whining about that :P
