I'm not ashamed to say that I would seriously consider buying a Nissan Cube. The new Scion xB from Toyota really doesn't so anything to my aesthetic senses, though it has a similar overall layout. I think Nissan should export the Cube to the U.S. to directly compete with the xB. Yeah, I know they aren't SPORTS cars, but they are cool vehicles none-the-less IMO. Given the choice, which would you take and why?

If you hate me for even mentioning these cars, just don't say anything and don't bother to vote as to not gunk up the results. Thank ya much!

Um, I think I agree with Mallon...

 Yeah, I knew I wouldn't come out of this un-scathed. I still stand by my statement though. I think its has good looks, especially for a Box. It has Nissan quality, is the right price(13k USD, in Japan only though). It has a massive interior(despite outward appearances) and can easily seat four full sized adults quite comfortably. The engineering is very solid, the steering is presice and firm, and there is no wind noise, despite its boxlike appearance. It gets great fuel economy and if its get a little unfreindly on the road, theres a e-4WD system to haul me outta snow drifts. Ah, well, we can't all agree on everything :)

It is a good thing, trust me. Nissan's quality is undisputable. We've had a Nissan for over 15 years now and it's still as new. Never had any problems with it.

 Raith: I understand it's a very practical car, but I wouldn't characterise it as a 'sport' car...
So, I'll leave it till I'm 50 or sth. :)

Nissan's cars are very reliable and are high quality, no doubt about that. Nissan is known for it. But still, i would never buy a cubus like that.....

Sure, that has nothing to do with it. I would never buy it either, but that doesn't mean that it's not a reliable and quality car.

Well the people at Car and Driver were able to test one out and they said it had "second to infinit quality" about everything. So thats why I mentioned that :-p

That doesn't mean it's Nissan's fault. Maybe your friend expects to much of the car, or he doesn't treat it well. Nissan could be blamed for this, but your friend can be blamed for this as well....

Nissan was always indeed quite reliable but i mentioned much more troubles when renault bought Nissan ..

We drive a BRAND NEW Nissan TerranoII and we ALWAYS have probles\ms with it!
just not fun anymore!!

And if i drive the car i see to much ugly and stupid renault stuff in the car interior looks to much hard plastic ect.

Japanese cars were always quite reliable in electronics , well everybody know's Renault wasn't reliable qith their electronic stuff , Nissan is getting more and more electronic prob's now...

i don't know i could be wrong but i worked in a Nissan / Renault garage and this was the situation over there soo....

To everyone here: My father still has a Nissan Sunny from '88, and as I have said many times before, it's still as new and we've never had any problems with it. It has never malfunctioned, nothing has broken and it never left us unsatisfied. It is also very fun to drive and the feeling is a lot better than many new cars that I've driven. Also, the best and most precise clutch I've ever tried. If you had 10K euros back in '88, then that's the car you would have bought. That's the case, and I don't care if you agree with me or not. Perhaps you are referring to different Sunnys which were not made in the same factory as mine, but I don't really know. I'm not biased in this matter, I just have personal experience with it, whereas most of you have not.

 Schumi: I never said that all Nissans have good quality, I just believe that most of them do. Perhaps your friend with the Sunny bought it after '88: the later models were not as good as the '88.

 Mallon: Man, you're pretty biased here... please try to reconsider.

mallon
Aug 21, 2003, 8:48 AM
saying im biased implies I have some reason to chose one side or another.
BUT, rationally considering the positives and negatives of the nissan sunny, I can *unbiasedly* say that the Nissan Sunny if one of the worst cars I can think of.
I base this on certain Jornalists opinions and my view on the styling. Thanksfully I havent been cursed with driving this monstrosity so I only go on other people's acounts; and from your description i think you are in a minority.

Seriously but -

http://www.kyrocar.fi/autodata/45.jpg

no matter how good the clutch is, how can you defend that styling LOL.

Seriously though, its good you are glad with your car, but a nissan sunny just isnt for me. :D

Aug 21, 2003, 10:16 AM
now your just being stupid. Come on, styling is a matter of opinion. Anyway, most people don't care about styling too much, more on reliability and functionality. Making fun of how it looks is so "highschool" if you will. "Haha! Its BAD! Cause I don't like how it looks!" Thats what I'm getting at least. Okay, the journalists may have some good points, whatever. Still, the car thats in question is a GOOD quality car with a good company behind it. Lets not stray too far from that. And Schumi, don't try to talk about how ugly it as you are prone to do with anything not Fiat, Alfa Romao, or Ferarri. it's starting to tick me off :x

Jimm , you know you really right about that!!

Cars from around 1986 till 1995 looks much MUCH more reliable to me!
I think that's because of the less electronical stuff in the car and less futuristic tricks in the car that only get broke ect.
Just simple and it works always!
I believe you when you say your dad's car is reliable! i really do but my experience with a BRAND new nissan is diffrent... MUCh electronical problems!
But that could be a bigger prob. of Nissan because it's part of Renault now....

Our Alfa is the most reliable car we ever had , tha't car is from 1992!<-- NEVER EVER got an Problem woth the car!
We only got :
- Power steering
- Electronic window's
- Electronic mirror's
- Electronic heaten mirror's

And in the engine is less electronic stuff than in ALL those new cars!
I think that will help to improve the Reliablitly

I dont see why judging a car on styling is 'high-school'. You say styling is a matter of taste - Ill give in if you find 5 people on thsi forum who *likes* the styling of the above Nissan Sunny.
Note that I wasnt laughing at the car cause of its looks, I was simply putting the looks of the car as a negitive point.
(although I do laugh when I see photos like the one above)

You will have to remember the following things:

1. White is IMO the worst colour for cars... we have this in deep grey, and it's much better.
2. Styling is sth subjective and you shouldn't be bashing someone when he says that he likes sth. Besides, I never talked about design, I just talked about the (undoubted) reliability of the car. Let's see if your car will be at the same condition when it becomes 15 years old...
3. Allow me to remind you that this car was released in '87 I believe, and at that time, it had a more modern and appealing design than many other cars in that category.

white is a bad colour for a car - but I dont think it matters, The sunny will never be renowed for being goodlookign!

TO be fair, i read somethings about the Sunny and it is a dam reliable car.

Mopar68
Sep 08, 2003, 3:36 PM
got no idea what we are talking about.

But my choice is the xB, not because i love the styling, but because i love the practicality. Have you ever sat inside one? Very comfortable seats with pleanty of legroom and headroom. The trunk space is prety big for such a small car. But 108hp isn't much, and it isn't exactly a low drag effiecient vehicle, so 0-60 in somehting north of 10 seconds isn't really my style. Boost the power a bit, and it would be awesome.

AS for that nissan, i've only seen it once in a magazine. They gave it 5 stars out of 5, but the asymetrical styling isn't that american.

thats pretty true. cars from diffrent countries look diffrent because, well, they're from diffrent countries. Asiand, Europeans, and Americans allin general ahve much diffrent preferances of style, art, design, ect. Thats why cars look the way they do, like them or not. It's not too common for a car to be globably popular on a large scale. I think for every car that we "all" like, there's at least one person that disagrees, for whatever reason.

funny thing the Nissan cube is the model most car reviews want to see sold in their respective countries, i guess everyone just likes it, but i prefer the scion XB it stands out more and has more of a road presence
