hey Looking at importing cars myself. under a business name.

what type of licene's/insurance would I need or have to pay for say per car.

I imagine you got

car cost
shipping cost
shipping insurance
australian (or which ever country you are from) standards inspector costs
road worthy costs

am i missing anything else?

the business would probably have it's own insurance in case the car had to be held if a customer bailed out of a deal.

that sounds like everything - cant think of anything else.

As for licenses - i dont see why'd you need one. Private individuals can import without papers.

Yeah, there could be one, perhaps depending on engine displacement or output.

There is also the emissions test and the inspection, it may or may not cost money though

yeah thats another thing - some cars are illegal in certain contries.
i.e. all lotus elise's have to have certain thins modified to comply with US standards when exported to the US (something to do with the height of the door).

I heard if you want to import a car you have to buy like 8 of them and crash test it and if it passes the safety law then you can import a brand new car :shock: Tell me this is not true!!!!

no thats for like official title. for grey market you don't always have to all you gotta do is call the NHTSA and ask about what models you can and cannot import or in your case darkhunter, you call transportation canada or go to the website they have a list of cars you can and can not import

Mallon i don't think any lotus elises have ever set foot on north american streets because they don't have airbags for one, which is illegal here but they are planning on bringing them here in 2005 or later
