I noticed a magazine today at WHS - Classic Cars. On the front it had a picture of a McLaren F1.

You guys think this is a classic car?
I think of a classic car to be over 30 years old and out of production for at least 20. McLaren F1 was in production less than 10 years ago.

I don't think so, a classic car is a car that became object of desire and dreams of many people, thats why the McLaren is a classic.........it was an instant classic

yeah, some people have different definitions.
Im talking about Classic as in age, not classic as in class-y, if you know what i mean.

Yes, I agree with this. One definition for a classic car would be over 30 years of age, but another definition would be an excellent cars that has stopped production, like the F1.
And yes, the Veyron and the Enzo will be classics when they halt production, IMO.

i dont agree with the last bit - I dont think a car like the Enzo/Veyron will be classic as soon as they stop production.

Mainly because the thats not the way I define classic, and secondly the enzo has already stopped production, as numbers where limited to 349.

hmm i Think the F-40 is classic!
i know he's indeed not older than 30 years but... how much Brother's he got , and how much people think : WOW that WERE times with the F-40 ect. Than i think you could speak of a classic car!

Does a car need a age of 30 years? hmm not to me , for me a CLASSIC car needs a NAME , like EVERYWERE on this planet and you call : F-40 ? EVERYBODY know's it!
That's something you need if a car wants to be classic!

Do you have a car from 1946 and not very famous, NObody know's that car : Then to me that car is just OLD!!

greetz : Danny!

Ok, I actually meant a few years after they stop production. Maybe sth like 10 years.

Ok, a big distinction here, in my opnion. I see a classic car that has impacted the automotive world in a big way. I would associate the word classic car with such oldies as the mustang, the GTO, The model T and so on. But i would also call new car a classic. Viper, PT Cruiser, Civic, Pacifica and Maybach. They all affected the automotive world in a big way. Now a VINTAGE car is diffrent. those are older cars. My rule is they have to be about 25 years old.

Good call Mopar. We must seperate Classic and Vintage, they are distincly diffrent, but often blurred.

that is the ultimate classic really.
the only bad thing about that car is the price tag - one sold got 11millions dollars.

Yeah, I'd totally to sell something like that in a heartbeat. I'd pretend i didn't want o sell it to make some silyl rich man give me all his money to have it. I appreciate these odler car classics, but owning one wouldn't appeal to me. Not even the American Muscle cars. :P

I believe that the Mclaren F1 is not YET a classic if u judge by the yeras of it's production...But as soon as it reaches 30 years then it will be instantly entered into the Hall Of Fame.

with 11 million i'd buy a new car then remake the entire chassis in light aluminium and the body in carbon fiber
