It's come to my attention that a lot of recent topics have basically said "i have this car, what should i do to modify it with a budget?". So i thought i'd be a ghood idea to give the ten most important tips to modifying a car. Everyone contribute the most important thing they think is important. Please dont repeat and please GIVE AN REASON WHY YOU CHOOSE THE TIP!!!!! eventually when this topic dies down, i'll put the top ten together, and when a "i have this car, how do i mod it" topic pops up, you can give them this topic and they'll be on their way.

Well, staying within you're budget is pretty important. It might sounds silly, but who wants to run out of dough mid way through a project?
And if you're going to do exterior mods, make it original.

Yeah, I was given the option to put a pacesetter sticker on my right rear window...I said no for three reasons:
1-Didn't put them on for the intake or cpu...
2-Pacesetter's logo is reaaaallly similar to Ferrari's from as close as 20 feet
3-I'm not a dumbass...

1. Plan what you are going to do, and research all components needed, paying close attention to your budget.
2. Be innovative and dare to be different.
3. Concentrate on trying to have an all-round package, not just concentrating on just one side.
4. Go for slight engine mods, just a CAI, air filter, exhaust, new ECU.
5. Suitably modify your suspension according to how much power you have: strut brace, sway bars etc.
6. Upgrade wheels and tyres for more lighter and more sporty options.
7. Add a bodykit: whatever suits your taste, don't just be a part of the crowd, do what you want. Be as creative and as flashy as you want.
8. Try to keep your car street-legal, going by the rules of the law e.g ride-height, heat shielding etc.
9. Modify your sound system as well, a new head-unit, couple of front speakers and an amp and a subwoofer will do.
10. Do not, and I mean DO NOT be a poser and turn your sounds system up as much as you can and don't just rev your engine just to show off. This will only attract burglars and you will regret it in the near future.

Hmm, i think you guys misunderstood me. I appreciate all the info, but what i meant to say was pick one tip you think is the most important and give a reason behind it.

My tip: choose a car (chassis) that can actually handle the power of the engine, because if you don't, you will surely have a crash. Which means, choose only well made cars, NOT small in size, with good chassis and good roadhandling and traction abilities.

Oh ok, well then, my tip: Be innovative, try something different and become an individual. Try something that no one has done before and think outside the square to create a car you can truly call 'yours'.

Light weight, good handling, suspension with a proven history of grip and traction...
Basically, what Jim said.

RESEARCH
My number one tip, without a doubt, is to research what you are doing. Some people might have the great idea to buy a body kit and install it themselves for the list price of $499. Well, they forgot that you need to sand it, degrease it, prime it, mount it, and paint it to match. This is a LOT of work for an individual with a daily driver. If you had done some research, you would've realized this. If you want to install a turbo, great. Its an extremely efficient way to improve power. But wait, you also need Injectors, an intake, a tuned ECU, and a car that can support the extra power. Otherwise, your car will be lying in a ditch, or sitting at a junkyard with a blown engine.

Is this a shot at my GT8 idea because they have a damned good chassis which can handle the power with few mods

hahaha i realised that too. dude people arent out to send subliminal messeges in topics that hardly have anything to do with what you want to do just because they wont tell it to your face. i think that is a good idea what you want to do but if your so defensive about it im not sure if you like your idea so much.
ok. dont order parts from shotty websites because they might send you sh*t and if a deal is too good to be true, it is. i found a website that someone else on this forum found a little later and started a topic about it. they said it was a super/turbo charger, i dont remember, for 35 dollars. turns out to be just a more efficiant air intake that is still probly crap because most air intake systems that are half way decent are atleast $200. so what im trying to say is that dont buy from shotty websites and dont buy anything that sounds fishy like a 35$ super charger. also shop around to find the best buy or else youll kick yourself because you found the same part for a lot less. google and froogle is the best place to start. if you dont have much money try ebay.
