It's been a while since I've actually posted a new topic.

I'm just wondering if anyone here knows anything about painting cars. Anything information like what equipment one might need to get started, what techniques I should use, what kind of paints are best to start with, or how much all of it will cost, would be very helpful. I'm not sure if this matters, but I am basically considering a color change from white to a black color on a '92 Lexus ES300. I'm aware that this will probably mean I should repaint the engine compartment as well if I want it to be a complete job, but I'm wondering if that's completely necessary. And I've read that one should also paint the interior, but I'm wondering if that's needed when everything is covered in upholstery.

Any information would be very helpful, thanks.

Ummm...Don't paint the car yourself...Especially if you want that Lexus to look good.

I'd just fork over the grand for a decent lifetime paint job. Mine only cost 800 bucks. :P

An overall paintjob isn't needed on my car. I could even do some touch-up work where it's needed, but I more or less have grown very tired of driving this two-tone (white with grey) car. At the moment it's just so similar to a camry. I think it would look much better in black. I was more or less hoping to be able to make the car more my own, especially if I did decide to go with more than just black paint. I suppose if I did take the time to learn and purchase all the necessary equipment then I would probably end up spending just about as much as I would getting it done professionally. Still it would be a nice skill to learn especially because it one that I can readily share or use.

So I guess my next question is whether anyone knows any professionals in Maryland, hopefully in Montgomery County. I don't want anything extreme, just a nice looking black all around.

I'd actually just look in your local phone book, and then go to some of there places, see what cars they work on, and possible customer complaints/ praises.

I needed the paint job, my car had faded red paint, which just looks awful, plus some bodywork was needed to...

Did you stay with a red color? And do you have any before and after pictures so I could get an idea what an $800 paint job would look like?

Just go to your local smash repairs place. Most of them do paint jobs.
