My cossie did 230km/h with the 5 speed, now i haven't tested with the 6 speed but i guess some 10~15km/h more since the final gear is high

Sorry i don't have a own car yet :(
BUt in my dad's Alfa 155 i drove 140 MPH! on the indigo! that's about 225 km/h i guess!
Quite fast for only a 1.8 8v from 1992!!
The factory have tested him on 205km/h ........ i know ... i'm good :P

All those test were based upon tire ratings i think, and you definetly should not pass the tire rating, anyway, i remember i hit 210 in a 1.6 95hp Escort.............sigh my first car........i miss that car  even though it was slow

Sorry Fr500 you could be right but what do you mean by tire ratings??

i think hes refering to the fact that at speeds higher than what the manufactor mentions is risky depending on the tire you have, i.e. goign over the mention speed you could have a blow out.

hmm yeah he could be right than i don't know!
I think they just hit the throlltle as far as they can and just see what his topspeed is , i don't think they'll watch at tires ??

Every car manufacturer supplies the car with tyres that are appropriate for the top speed of the vehicle. The top speed is determined by 4 factors: engine power, gear ratios, aerodynamics, wheel diameter. (mostly the first two)

Aerodinamics is greater factor, aerodinamics sets the real top speed, also tire rating is important, on latest models there have been imposed electronic limits, but i remember the previows bimmer 325 could easily get over the 250km/h limit, but the main problem were tires rated for 230km/h, tire rating is a big deal, if you remove the limiter and your tires are not adequate you can have trouble, tires heat over normal limits, grips is lost and you may have a blow out

i would say mostly the first 3 Jim... AD has such a large effect on top speed.

wieght is one of the most important things...
the aerodynamics helps ... specially in hight speeds ...
the wheels are one of the most importand couse its the only connection between the car and the road .. !

white i think, tyres are one of the less important things at high speeds i.e. no where near the importance of aerodynamics. Because at the high speeds the acceleration is so small that the tyres dont slip even if they are poor quality/thin.

the only connction between the car and the road is the tyres...
the only way to feel the road is the tyres...
the only way to know that you are in control in high speed is from the feeling you get from the tyres...
so i guess one of the most importand things are the tyres mallon

White - i didnt say that tyres are irrelevant - BUT thye are not in relation to aerodynamics overly important.
You mention about "feel" - that isnt important whne you are trying to get to top speed.
