The sportiest Cayenne yet, according to Porsche. The GTS slots between the S and the Turbo in the range, getting a slightly revised version of the normally aspirated V8’s engine and most of the Turbo's visual accoutrements.
Suspension has been lowered and - for the first time in the Cayenne - it's now possible to get steel springs with PASM active dampers, a combination that promises to make this SUV handle better than many one-and-a-half tonne saloons.

As marketing claims go, pitching this kind of SUV as a hardcore driving machine should have 'em rolling in the aisles - but providing you can tune yourself into the sheer improbability of the concept, the GTS is an impressive beast.
The lowered, and slightly stiffened, steel suspension gives it an edge on its air sprung siblings in terms of agility and steering response, although at the cost of a firm ride that can get choppy over rougher road surfaces. Buyers can still opt to pay extra for air suspension and the PDDC adaptive anti-roll system, although that seems to defeat most of the purpose of the chassis revisions.
The revised V8 engine gets direct injection to improve throttle response, and yield an extra 20bhp over the standard "S". Porsche also claims this has improved emissions and fuel economy slightly. Which it has - but only to 18.1 mpg combined, so don't expect any awards from Greenpeace any time soon.
It sounds great, too - the engine putting out some impressively deep-chested harmonics which can be hardened further by switching to "Sport" mode and deploying some acoustic flaps within the exhaust.
The standard six-speed manual gearbox benefits from shorter ratios than the standard Caynenne and shifts cleanly and accurately too, although it needs to be addressed via a very stiff clutch pedal. Most buyers will continue to opt for the six-speed slusher.

Seen as a cheaper alternative to the Cayenne Turbo, the GTS makes plenty of sense, sharing most of its more powerful sibling's visual features and offering a slightly more responsive driving experience for a considerable saving.
It's plenty fast enough, too. If you can live with the aggressive image and the enormous fuel bills then the Cayenne GTS wins the slightly pointless accolade of being the best-handling SUV you can buy.

I have no idea why Porsche keeps building these grand crazy overpriced super SUVs...I just don't see the point. I mean, no one really buys them right...I haven't even seen one Cayenne Titanium version up till now, lol...not to mention even a Turbo:p

buy a turbo and take the turbo badges off, problem sorted !

I don't really see the point to be honest, it still only does 18 mpg and if you want a car that is focused on handling why buy a freakin SUV ?

Either buy a Turbo or if you like something that handles well buy an RS4 avant or a C63 estate or when it comes out the m3 estate.....

I think I'm one of the only people that likes, no, loves, this car. If I were in the market for a sporty SUV this would on the top of my list, no doubt. I love the look of it, and the fact that it's a 6 speed is just awesome for an big vehicle like that.

actually there are people who buy those cars. well, in the middle east there are. but even here in england a spotted one. but i guess for porsche it is more about the image then the sales.

Worst looking Porsche IMO is the Cayenne. They should stick to racing cars, not make cars to compete with MB's M class, and BMW's X series.

Cayenne earned like 70% of porsches profit from the US..

but the US is notorious for being retarded....

I edited it just a tad to make it 100% truthful.

thats better. why can't they develop better 911's and proper sports cars with money used by the development of that ugly piece.

In my opinion, Porsche should have made the road goign version of that trans-siberian winning Cayenne for offroad enthusiasts. I think Cayenne S with the "offroad-ness" elements as standard options would have worked..

As long as they make 911 better by selling these, I'm PERFECTLY fine with Porsche. Actually, I support their action of selling cayenne.

So.. here we have many Cayennes. No kidding. Porsche sells many cayennes in Europe. I think it looks good but also it's a bad idea.

I think it makes perfect sense, to be honest. Maybe give it some different rims and a different colour and it will look even better, as I think the new Cayenne does look pretty good in my eyes. If I was in the market, I'd buy one. Practical, fast, yes so not as good on petrol as other cars, but still.

I see Cayennes around where I live. All the models, except the Titanium. They are almost as popular as the M-class and X5. And in Florida, the wealthy areas at least, they are all over the place.

Anyone who thinks that Porsche needs the Cayenne to continue building it's other cars doesn't know much about Porsche.
