I have a 98 VW golf. I put an aftermarket radio into it. It’s an Alpine CDA 7893. A few months after the radio was installed, I began having problems with it and I had to send it back to Alpine for repair. I had the problems during the winter time and I noticed that while the heat was on the unit would get EXTREMELY HOT. However, after Alpine looked at it, they said it had been operating within the normal temperature ranges and instead, some type of moisture that got into the system damaged it. Strange coincidence that moisture damage isn’t covered by the warranty? I don’t know. Whatever the cause, I don’t want to put my repaired radio back into the car until I know what caused this. I don’t want to have another $100 repair bill next winter. Has anyone experienced similar problems with either this type of car or this type of radio? Heat or Moisture. I would appreciate your thoughts and/or suggestions on what to do.

Thanks,
Chris

Ok well where do you live at first of all because if you live anywhere by the coast moisture is going to be a problem but it really should affect a stereo system. I personally would try to get a cooling fan or something to try and cool it off but point it so it take away the heat instead of blowing on to it because this could make the moisture worse if that is the case. Also i know Alpine very well and it is a nice headset but there supposed to run hot if it is hot in the back left corner then that is just a heat sink that is supposed to happen. Moisture could cause this but if it did then it would be short circuited and more to the ends of blowing a capicitor or a resistor becuase the only think moisture would really do (you would need a lot of it) is to short circuit it and nothing more. This should be under there warrenty and if not take it to a normal car stereo place and they should be able to help
