I was checking out a an old car site and i came upon the 1994 Jaguar XJ220. It was the fastest car in the world at the time. I remember seeing one in Ireland last year and could not believe how large and loud it was. But it was impressive even by todays standards and it achieved such high performance that in a Top Gear episode it beat a Pagani Zonda S in a drag race. There is something to be said about a V6/3.5 liter twin turbo engine, it actually is "less" of a car than the 2006 Porsche Carrera GT. So far the weight seems to be the only benefit, its 700lbs less, which does make a big difference. Still, it made me smile to see one and I would rather own one of these than a Carrera GT any day.
Performance (changes slightly depending on who does the report):
engineTwin Turbo V6displacement3498 cc / 213.5 cu inpower507.1 kw / 680.0 bhp @ 7200 rpmhp per litre194.4 bhp per litrebhp/weighttorque714 nm / 526.6 ft lbs @ 5000 rpmdrive wheelsMid Engine / RWDweight1050 kg / 2315 lbstransmission5-Speed Manualtop speed368 kph / 228.7 mph0 - 60 mph3.8 seconds
Ive known about this car for a long time, probably alot of people have. But, I have never seen one before in person. It would probably be cool to see one in person.

mmm not too sure about the 368kmh top speed, I thought it only hit 347 or something? Anyway, I believe it was the las cool car Jag ever made - sure the XK/R is alright, but it lacks the magic of this car. The XF had it's chance, but probably won't redeem itself (Why can't I have the interior from the concept car?!?!?!).
It seems Jag cannot make a suitable follow-up car, after the E-Type and the XJ220...mind you, I wouldn't want to be in charge of designing a replacement for the E-Type....

Yup, i've seen two next to eachother before when i was in Bellvue, WA. in the showroom of the extremely expensive "Park Place LTD." dealership, basically all your dream cars are parked in there, you can look it up, but they mostly sell Porsche and Lotus.
Anywho, the one on the left was a Navy Blue and the right one was a bright silver.
probably the single most beautiful car to me in the entire world, I wouldn't care what anyone says, they're drop-dead gorgeous. i'm just not a total fan of the tailight-in-rear-grille design element, makes it look dated and it could have easily been improved, but other than that.
Supremely beautiful machines those 220's are.

i have not seen one in person but have noticed something in the remake of gone in 60 seconds to do with this car.
it shows them saying that they have it and it gets crossed off the board, then later on in the movie you see angelina jolie hop out of it, meaning that they did not actually have it earlier

haha you're right i always sorta wondered, then i decided to blame the editor for it, but yeah that was kinda funny to see
-D
and yeah the top speed on the XJ was always listed as 217 or 218mph to my knowledge.
i think that's the "official" guiness speed it set, anything faster was unofficial but possible in a onetime fluke attempt.

The thing that stayed with me the most was how freakin' low it is, and how awesome it sounds.

honestly they are not that rare, i've seen about 15 or 20 different cars (1 of them was in Florida too).
They are quite something, but I don't think i'd buy one, although i'd have one for a weekend, just to see what they are really like!

Ehm, 281 made in total is not that rare? In my book it is. ;)

I got to drive one (I impounded it... perk of the job was driving the cars). Quite an interesting car.

You've got the specs of the Le Mans version there. The road car had 540bhp, did 218mph and hit 60 in 3.6 seconds.
And yes, I have seen one in real life. Sat in one, in fact! :)
At my Dad's workplace... No-one could drive it, though, it's worth too much; although they could start it up. Sounds nice...

If I had seen one before I read this thread, I'd have been like "Hey, it's that one Jag...the XJ something...yeah." and then forgotten about it.
I forgot how rare they were.

yeah really none of those are rare at all.. well maybe the ones that you say your neighbor has but still. a JX220 is more rare then any of those cars listed except maybe the f40 (I can't remember how many were made) but I find it hard to believe that your neighbor has an f40. but the ones you talk about seeing I see on a regular bases...

^^^there were 1356 road going F40s, and a further 14 GTO/Evolution race cars.
There are around 600 road going ones left, and 10 of the race varsions.

The specs seem wrong to me. The most common top speed I've heard is 213mph and the power is no where near 680bhp. Unless you're talking about some race/supersport version, that is....
