View Full Version : What does the New GTO need?

There seems to be a split opinion on what the new GTO is/should be? With its rather forgettable styling, it's a blank convas. Some feel it is/should be the snorting musclecar of yore. Others, myself included, feel it should be the high end, luxury, performance coupe we've always wanted GM to build to compete w/BMW M3 and Benz CLK.
I've customized mine to be more like the high end instead of retro by adding a functional Ferrari inspired hood, power moonroof, automatic dimming mirror (w/compass and outside temp), and 18" wheels. More stuff is on the way.
Tell me what you think? Compliments and suggestions are apprectiated. If you don't like it, a simple I don't like it is ok...no need to be an jerk and wax on about you thoughts on its styling.

Handling and braking, since the last 7 years have proven the engine can be modded without trouble.
But really, it's fine as is, maybe just more aggressive wheels and tires.

needs side pipes with big mufflers (that shouldn't work too well) onto the rear tires (keeps em warm). Base monaro needs and air dam.

i think it needs to be crushed into a cube. Monaro is better, go design your own GTO and dont steal ours.

If Holden didnt export the GTO, the monaro might not be as viable. Its all part of GM's cost cutting economies of scale. anyways, back to topic.
TrueblueGT0, congrats on a nice car :smt023
But IMO, i prefer the more luxo-high-class smooth styling of the monaro over the muscle car look with the scoop. But note that this is from an Aussie's perspective.

But it seems like the muscle car image is the way for the Monaro as well as the GTO. There's an optional bonnet scoops for the new Aussie monaro.
Here's some pics of the HRT427. It was going to be a prodcution car, but Holden killed it :(

I heard the new 2005 GTO is going to have a 6.0L 400 bhp upgrade from last years 5.7L 350hp 2004 GTO, eeek, the GTO could duke it out with the C6...ALMOST :!:

It has the same Gen IV engine that's why.
Anyway, the GTo should resemble the Coupe4. That's the sexiest car Holden/HSV has made so far!

Why cant we have 427 cobra side pipes that you trip over getting, that would be sick. The problem with the coupe 4 is its auto only  :smt022 :smt021 :smt010 :smt089 :smt102 :smt106 :smt093 :smt092 :smt088

Does that take away the fact that it was designed by Australians. Plus GM owns heaps of other companies or at least some of them, they are still seperate companies to each other, people are all "ooh the icon is back, the GTO" wow its not even an American design and bares no resemblance to the origianl but the badging. Neither Monaro. as a side note a happen to like both the older models of these cars.
Why am i even arguing i dont even like the Monaro or the GTO they are both ugly as hell, oversized and weighted. Holden and then GM "could" make their cars smaller and lighter with the same engines or close but it goes against there images (especially Holden), they just keep making the bodies bigger and bigger for no good reason, if your making a sports coupe (or even the sports sedan) you dont need it to be the same size as the 4 door family sedan or even bigger, this goes for all the HSV etc. cars too.

They flared the gaurds if thats what you mean to get bigger tiers in. Plus it aint that hard.
Step one: Blot on metal flares
Or
Step one: Build car with wider arse
Its mass production dude, concepts are always expensive (and usualy fiberglass)
