HIM - Burried Alive By Love, Heaven Tonight, Close To The Flame and all others :) . HIM is the metal band. Their songs are so beautifull.... I'm a big fan of them. I'm actually wearing a 'Tribal' HIM T-Shirt right now  .

'Love Metal'?? LOL such thing does not exist!!
Actually, it does. Ville explained it himself. I can't exactly explain it like he did, but love metal exists. But hardly anyone knows about it, as HIM is the only band that creates that type of music. Ask all HIM fans, their music is called 'love metal'. Most people think it's gothic rock, but that is totally different. Not 1 of their songs can be compared with that. Believe me, it's definately not gothic rock ( can't even imagine why people think it is.... ) and love metal exists. It can be compared to trash, black, or death metal. Almost nobody knows about these types of music, but they exist.
jimkk29
Aug 30, 2003, 6:48 PM
First of all, HIM cannot be compared to thrash/black/death. Have you ever even heard any of these?
Second, it's more likely that the leader of HIM himself said sth like "we play love metal" and now everyone believed it... Besides, it's not the rythm of the guitar or the brutality that make the kind of music. HIM are very romantic and they clearly have a gothic spectrum in their lyrics and style. They tend to move more towards rock. True metal resembles a bit but is quite distinguishable for someone who knows.
There will only be "love metal" (LOL) only if HIM start playing real metal and only if 20 or 30 more bands follow their style and call themselves "love metal bands". That's how new styles are created. It will take more than a whimpy band to create an entire new school of metal.
DarkVenom666

First of all, HIM cannot be compared to thrash/black/death. Have you ever even heard any of these?
I didn't. I said love metal is like death, black and trash metal: almost no one knows any of these. That's how i meant it. I'm sorry for my English, i can't exlpaint it very well.
it's more likely that the leader of HIM himself said sth like "we play love metal" and now everyone believed it
Almost all magazines, websites, etc. tell that HIM produces love metal.
hey clearly have a gothic spectrum in their lyrics and style
I can also ask you: Have you ever heard gothic music? Cause if you did, you would know HIM can not ( i can't imagine how you thought of this. ) be compared with gothic bands, these 2 types make totally different music.
True metal resembles a bit but is quite distinguishable for someone who knows.
I already told you this isn't normal metal music. This music can only be known as love metal, no other style can be compared with this.
It will take more than a whimpy band to create an entire new school of metal.
So, if someone makes a type of music that is never been heard before, that is different than the rest. And if they would give that type of music a name, it can't be named that way, because lot's of people must make this type of music first to? I can't agree, if one makes a whole new music style, he/she is able to give it a name.
And by the way, what is so funny about love metal? Because the word 'love' is in it? Well, i bet more than 80% of all artists and bands make songs about love. Love is also one of the most important factors on earth, so i can't see why this is so funny.
Jim, i hope you know i respect you the most out of this whole forum. Now, maybe i'm getting this wrong, or you didn't mean it the way you said it, but i'm getting the feeling that you are trying to make fun of me ( or the music i like. ). Please, don't, i'm just telling you what i know and just giving you my thoughts....

Please, don't, i'm just telling you what i know and just giving you my thoughts....
Dark, I am not trying to make fun of you or the music you like, and you also know that you have my respect too. I also have one mp3 of HIM and I like it. Please believe me, my intentions are very good. I'm really sorry if you got the feeling you're referring to.
Almost all magazines, websites, etc. tell that HIM produces love metal.
Ok, I believe you, but magazines always write what the band itself claims. So if HIM said that "we're playing rap" then the magazines would go on saying that HIM play rap (lol, ok, the example is a bit extreme, but I hope you understand me). Also, many music terms have been created by ignorant journalists, not musicians.
I said love metal is like death, black and trash metal: almost no one knows any of these. That's how i meant it. I'm sorry for my English, i can't exlpaint it very well
Um, trust me, you're wrong here. You couldn't possibly imagine how many people on earth listen to these kinds of music. Personally, I have over 50 cds with this stuff. Oh, and don't complain about your English. You speak even better than some Americans here.
I can also ask you: Have you ever heard gothic music? Cause if you did, you would know HIM can not ( i can't imagine how you thought of this. ) be compared with gothic bands, these 2 types make totally different music.
HIM have a gothic attitude. But anyway, forget about the term 'gothic'. All I want to say is that HIM do not play metal, they play rock. Call it 'love rock', if you like, but not metal. This is obvious in the rhythm, the tempo of their guitars, the clear tone of the guitars, the structure of the songs, their melodies etc. Metal is sooo different, believe me.
I already told you this isn't normal metal music. This music can only be known as love metal, no other style can be compared with this.
I know that no other style can be compared with this, but I'm just telling you that this isn't metal. See above. Call it 'HIM unique style' if you like, but not metal.
So, if someone makes a type of music that is never been heard before, that is different than the rest. And if they would give that type of music a name, it can't be named that way, because lot's of people must make this type of music first to? I can't agree, if one makes a whole new music style, he/she is able to give it a name.
Even if someone creates a new style of music, he has to ascertain the similarities with the existing kinds of music, and then claim that he belongs to some kind. But he has to be realistic and understand what kind does he have the more similarities with. In this case, HIM have more similarities with rock, and fewer similarities with metal.
And by the way, what is so funny about love metal? Because the word 'love' is in it? Well, i bet more than 80% of all artists and bands make songs about love. Love is also one of the most important factors on earth, so i can't see why this is so funny.
Oh man... I do not think that the word 'love' is funny. If someone does so, he's doomed. I just wish there were more people who understood the importance of love even half as I do. And sometimes we understand things only through the lack of them...
Now some final words. I strongly believe that any kind of 'name tags' for music are not at all important. The important thing is that you like the group, and that's fine. I have a feeling that we analysed this far more than we should... Let's not delve into such detail.
DarkVenom666
Aug 30, 2003, 8:05 PM
Please believe me, my intentions are very good.
I already thought so, i just simply understood it the wrong way. Sorry about 'blaming' you for this, i apologize.
magazines always write what the band itself claims. So if HIM said that "we're playing rap" then the magazines would go on saying that HIM play rap
Ok, you got me there. Very good point. I never thought of this that way....
You couldn't possibly imagine how many people on earth listen to these kinds of music
I know very, very much people listen to metal, heavy metal, punk rock, etc. But i never knew much people listened to these styles as well. So, i guess you've provided the correct answer once again.... It's becoming a habbit, Jim  !
PS, thank you for giving me such a compliment about my English ( especially concidering the fact, that your English is so much better than mine. ). :) .
Call it 'love rock', if you like, but not metal. This is obvious in the rhythm, the tempo of their guitars, the clear tone of the guitars, the structure of the songs, their melodies etc
Well, i'm still not 100% convinced. I mean, the melodies, structure and stuff aren't 'metal like', but their guitars definately are, i believe. You said you have 1 HIM track, i have them all and believe me, about half of their songs ( if not more ) are soft, but they have also created songs ( especially on their 1st and 2nd album. ), wich can be considered to be metal. Not heavy metal or some sort, but slow, romantic metal. I know i'm probably wrong about this to, but i'm just giving it a shot   .
Oh man... I do not think that the word 'love' is funny. If someone does so, he's doomed. I just wish there were more people who understood the importance of love even half as I do. And sometimes we understand things only through the lack of them...
I couldn't agree more. Not much people care about ( true ) love anymore, wich is a shame. The world could be so much better if more people did ( maybe this sounds a bit weird so some people, but i'm not afraid to tell people what i think. especially not when it comes to love. ). And believe me or not, i am one of the people who think love is very, very important ( if not the most important thing ) in life....
I have a feeling that we analysed this far more than we should... Let's not delve into such detail.
Ok, you know what? Let's just call it romantic, nothing more specific. Now, are we satisfied by this decision  ?

i never believed in the 'that's the best song ever' theory.
there's too much music in this world to pin it down to one tune.
for every 20 tunes i love , there's another 50 that are just as good.
Here's a few of the best tunes I've heard in my 30yrs.
Best Electronic tunes ever...
The Collective - Kick It
Druid + Bananaman - Tweedledum
The Dreamteam - Dreamteam=back
Kevin Energy - The Baptism
Robbie Long + Stormtrooper - Work That Sucka. (tune of 2006 for me)
Donkey Rollers - Evil
Lady Dana - Back In Time
Druid + Sharkey - Feel The Heat
Scott Brown - Boomstick
Evil Activities - One of Those Days
Neophyte + Lenny Dee - The Future Preist Of Now
Cherrish - Confusion
Happy Tunes + Alchemix - Feel So Good 96'
Best non-electronic tunes...
The Vandals - 43210-1
Dance Hall Crashers - Shelley
Pulley - Do It Again
Frenzal Rhomb - Ship of Beers
Ben Folds - Army
MeMeMe - Hangin Around
Bob Dylan - The Hurricane
Lily Allen - Alfie
10cc - Rubber Bullets
Boz Scaggs - Lido Shuffle
Simon + Garfunkel - At The Zoo
Kings of Leon - Wasted Time
Lynyrd Skynyrd - Gimme Three Steps/T for Texas
Toto - Rosanna
I could go on & on but I won't. Those are the ones that instantly come to mind.

i hate country + western. i hate r&b. i hate gangster rap. i hate commercial music. i hate easy listening. i hate dance , trance & ambient house.
tell me what's good about any of these genres? nothing. that's what.
it's easy to hate music when the genre is already a steaming pile of dogturd.
cue the twang twang fan with the country comeback...
if i play country + western backwards , will my wife come back to me? will my dog be alive again? will that bottle of whiskey be full?
goddamn mundane music.
i've heard more music than anyone in here & to this day , country + western is still the hellspawn of satan's musical torture chamber.
love punk. hate emo. hate pop-punk cause there's no such thing. metal can stay , get rid of so called 'hard rock' - my backyard has a 'hard rock' in it.
hardstyle , gabber & hardcore can stay forever. and ever.

It's one of those revivals where the kid who revived it doesn't just revive, then disintegrate, cos everyone is participating.
But, one of my favourite songs at the minute is sick 2 def, spelt like that, by Plan B. I advise you all to go listen to it, because the man is a lyrical genius. He manages to compress an entire story into 4 minutes, but its just so graphic and flowing.
In fact, go get his album, twice.

I can't think of a 4 letter word thats censored that means awesome so I'll assume that it say sh it under there. Regardless of what you think, an opinion is not a fact. I happen to like HIM a lot.
Music I can't stand is pop or dance music. I particularly hate Nelly Furtardo (spl) and Infernal.
The greatest song ever? I would be inclined to say Mother by Danzig but there are too many songs out there.
Music I like is classic rock, hard rock and metal. So bands like Children of Bodom, Danzig, ACDC, Led Zeplin, Black Sabbath, HIM, The 69 Eyes, Rammstein etc.

I'm pretty open on styles. I have yet to hear a band that I truly dislike and I'm too into music to shut out one style. I think that's close-minded but to each his own...
I can understand what you mean but I found once I got used to the music I listen to now other stuff got really annoying. I don't know why but some types of music just annoy me to no end. It might be that once you start listening exclusively to one or two types of music you get stuck in that rut.

i'll listen to anything then form an opinion afterwards. or during.
But I'll instantly judge that pile of ret4rted sonic terrorism that is known as R&B.
(cue wesley's rant)...
Isn't it amusing that a teenager knows what R&B is but ask them what 'RYTHYM & BLUES' are & they give you a confused look as if to say 'what kind of word is rythymn?
John Lee Hooker would roll over in his grave if he heard of this.
This is why R&B sucks. It is so image fed that it becomes a parody of itself. And the audience & attitude that it acquires is just a complete joke.
And don't tell me ''chingy is good". HE ISN'T. None of them are.
No I don't want to see you 'ridin dirty' or 'shakin ya groove thang' or even your 'humps'.
See this record? Neophyte + Evil Activities - Party Like Us. See it? See it? Yes. It's Dutch hardcore.
HUMP THAT YOU UNEDUCATED IMAGE VICTIM!!!
Look at what Fergie did to Black Eyed Peas. Thankgod she's gone.
'Weekends' is The Black Eyed Peas. Not 'My Humps'.
And I'm sick to death of all you 'wiggerz' (that's a white homeboy wanna-be over here) 'bumpin' your 'tunez' whilst getting your so called 'mack' on in the carpark of McDonald's.
Yeah bling bling to you. Moron.
Get a gun & shoot yourself. You goddamn oxygen thief.
And who gave these morons a license to drive?
Since when does a sh1tty Honda Civic with non matching paint & a 5 million db stereo qualify for a 'fully sick ride bro'.
MY HOTWHEELS COLLECTION HAS MORE PERSONALITY THAN YOUR WHOLE CAR WITH YOU IN IT!!
The majority of my friends are technoheads & god it's soooo satisfying when a bunch of jokes pull up next to us with whatever drivel is pulsating out of their sh1tbox & we proceed to envelop them in a wall of hardstyle terror. Gabber has an even better effect. Try it.
Me & Ryan made this one guys windows rattle so badly that he & 2 others got out of his car & kicked the front of Ryan's. Then he pulled out a knife.
So Ryan calmly put his foot ever so slightly on the gas. Score 1 for the bumber bar , 0 for the idiot who now has a bruise the size & length of his own shin & has a hole from where a tooth went through his top lip.
He fell onto the bonnet.
The other 2 got ego deprivation so squirmed back into the car.
So yeah , R&B = not good.
Nearly everything else = okay.
Country = you better have a note from your mum.
Bloody hell. If more people supported Q-DANCE , the world would be such a better place. Really , it would.

I can understand what you mean but I found once I got used to the music I listen to now other stuff got really annoying. I don't know why but some types of music just annoy me to no end. It might be that once you start listening exclusively to one or two types of music you get stuck in that rut. There's a reason why I'm so open about music. I went through a couple career phases when I was young. At one point I studied to be a recording engineer. My instructor in music theory made us listen to so many different kinds of music it's ridiculous. He then taught us that if you hear a song and don't like it to listen to it again. This time just listen to the drums. If you still don't like it do it again but listen to just the guitars, so on and so on. If you still don't like it after that listen close to just the lyrics, see if you can figure out the meaning. A lot of times understanding lyrics will bring, if not a liking of a song, at least respect for it. See, I feel the same way about music as I do cars. To me a car isn't just a hunk of plastic and metal. It's a living being. Music isn't just something you upload to an iPod. I don't care if it's Bach or Tupac... a lot of emotion, time, and energy went into writing, recording, and releasing that song.
i'll listen to anything then form an opinion afterwards. or during.
That's a fair assessment actually. As long as you give it a chance...
Isn't it amusing that a teenager knows what R&B is but ask them what 'RYTHYM & BLUES' are & they give you a confused look as if to say 'what kind of word is rhythm?
I fully agree. Teenagers today don't have a clue. They can laugh all they want to but the 80's was the best decade for music for one reason... Musicians didn't give a crap about what the paying public wanted to hear. There was no 'selling out' like now (not a lot anyway). Bands and singers made the music that THEY wanted to make. Music then was a lot more expressive than now...
And I'm sick to death of all you 'wiggerz' (that's a white homeboy wanna-be over here) 'bumpin' your 'tunez' whilst getting your so called 'mack' on in the carpark of McDonald's.
AMEN!!!!! I've been listening to rap since the mid 80's and i kids today want to hear bass toss in Hit Harder by MC A.D.E or Sally That Girl by the Gucci Crew. Or even Posse On Broadway. That's bass... And if you're white be white... I'm not a bit prejudice but damn man, come on...
@monkey - damn i forgot about your musical obsession. if there's one person on here that's heard more than me , it's gotta be you. You listen to any electronic music?Of course. I do a lot of my own stuff and I love remixing other people's. That's one of the reasons I spent the money on the pc I bought, so I could do a lot of audio editing and production. It's my 'weekend thing'... lol

nice rant
theres no wy in hell i could ever say "oh this is the best song i have ever heard in my life"
its just not possible. ive I sat down I could name 500 or more of my favorite rock bands that I can remember from the top of my head. the list that I cant remember would be far far larger.
and to pick a single song from that? erm, no sorry, not gonna happen. and rock isnt even the only thing I listen to.
my policy has always been that 75% of crap is rap. therefor, i dont listen to 75% of the **** thats being produced, but there is somestuff I can listen to without feeling like I should bust one on of the guns that whichever wankster is currently rapping about, and shooting him like the bitches he says "he be shootin' "
of the rap I do listen to, most of it is older stuff, stuff alot of people havent even heard of at my school.
country i for some reason deplore nearly as much as rap. only good thing about it is theres less swaering and less raping, and toher such things.
bad thing is that the music they play is overly flamboyant for lack of a better term. all the instruments get played like the players are on speed, they need to tone it done a bit, and play some real music rather than some weird cacophony of clashing instuments.
everything welsey said about r and b I completly agree with.
as far as techno/electro goes (and wes I know youll be sad to hear this) I am pretty much a virgin.
but of it, id have to say my favorite song is SANDSTROM BY DUNE
j/k, wesley, I heard you rant about it one some other thread. I dont mind listening to it, but it definatly doesnt inspire me to look into techno any further than I have (which I havent)

you know why the 80's owned?
no grunge. no alternative. no 'R&B' (until 88. cue Bobby Brown.). no brittney or atomic kitten. NO PARIS. no ipods. no N|E|O. no pro-9/11 madness. no fast & the furious. no streetfire.net. no 'soccer mum' 4wd fads.
add to this if you wish.
p.s. I'm glad you're kidding car buff.
Sandstorm by Darude is dance music. Not techno. It's a top 40 moneymaker. That fakea$s acid warble melody is just sooo annoying.
Moreso than PHATT BASS by Aquagen. The world's 2nd most annoying song (1st being anything with a crazy frog sample in it) which makes it = with no.1. That's bad.
Schnappi sounds bloody brilliant after hearing these two atrocities of sound.
If you're uninspired by Darude , I don't blame you.
Let me inspire you.

I understand that it takes a lot of devotion and effort to put music out. I respect artists for that. Most of the time I just don't agree with their style of music. Music is defiantly alive in a way. The amount of passion and love put into songs is amazing. I can see this more in the type of music that I listen too but I'm sure its still there in other types of music. Seeing bands like Children of Bodom or Rammstein is simply awe-inspiring.

metallica -battery love that song
enter sandman-metallica
master sandman-metallica( the song has a good meaning "stay of the drugs").
my favorite genre of all time is what you call hardcore in america i believe... like hatebreed, sworn enemy, twelve tribes, born from pain (dutch).... wich would be really just noise to most people especialy live, but you have to understand this music.
and I like what we call hardcore in here. angerfist, neopythe, noize-suppresor, endymion, rtc etc...
next to that normal metal can pass too... machinehead, soulfly, slayer, illnino, sepultura, nonpoint etc etc etc

hardcore i.e. hatebreed , sworn enemy isn't the same as neophyte & endymion. isn't it weird how a genre can make 2 totally different scenes?
compared to hardcore metal , there's no comparison. computer music vs. band music. there's no distorted kickdrums & 4/4 messed up melodies with terror breakdowns in hardcore metal.
neophyte & angerfist are the dutch hard techno masters! along with nosferatu & evil activities. lenny dee & korsakoff i love aswell.

The only problem with computer music is the general lack of true feeling, emotion, and soul... Other than that it's intense, definately better for dancing, and a hell of a lot of fun to make.

guess thats true since using original instruments sound much better than digital/comuter music..but then again, its all a matter of taste . :)

They don't necessarily sound better just warmer. Any true audiophile will know the difference in tonal quality, warmth, tone depth, and overall feeling from a tube amp over a solid state amp. It's the same with live vs computerized music. Nobody can play drums as fast as a drum machine but no drum machine made can replicate the feeling and energy of Neil Peart or Buddy Rich. Simple as that...

Simple as that...I totally agree. Honestly, take a sitting an an acoustic session sometime for a local band. It won't be flashy, it won't have the clean edges of a digitized recording session, but I guarantee that you'll feel the music and not just hear noise. Music is much more then just sounds, it comes with a feeling and an attitude that cannot be duplicated or replicated. Just listen to J.J. Cale and Lynard Skynard sing their versions of "Call Me The Breeze" if you want an example of the same song but completely different feel.

Although I have my rap interests (Luda) and heavy metal moments (Rammstein) I always fall back to my fav genre/genres after a couple of days.
Electronica/Trance/House/Dance
With this being said there are many different songs that I consider some of my favorites so I if I had to limit it to my 10 most played songs as of late they would be:
1. Legowelt-Disco Rout
2. Elstrak-Hard Drivers -NFSC gamers will notice-
3. DJ Acucrack-Crash Addict and Renegade DJ
4. LFO-Snot
5. Peran-Good Time
6. ALT+F4-ALT+F4
7. Darude-Rush
8. Ferry Corsten- Punk
9. Sabastien Leger & Chris Lake- Aqualight
10. Tiesto-Adagio for Strings
and others that I listen to on a regular basis.
WP you need to check out DJ Acucrack and have you heard of Victor Dinaire and lost episode music?
btw what is the name of the song that is in the caddy commercials where it shows of generations of Cadillacs driving on a highway in the desert and ends up at an XLR.
