View Full Version : 350Z VS. Infinite G35 Sport Coup

Two very similar cars, both very beautiful, and there both classy. As far as on the road and racing it diffently comes down to the drive. I hate the 350Z, so
my choice: G35

nah I was so glad to see the return of the nissan z cars.
100% definetly the 350Z, (overlooking the fact that the inifiniti isnt even sold in the UK - so even if I wanted one I couldnt get it!)
I also much prefer the styling of the nissan.
The only downer is that it marks the end of the skylines :(

May 30, 2003, 7:03 PM
Definitely the 350Z. Much more close to the term "complete car".
Mallon who said that skylines r over? Of course they'r not :D
mallon
May 30, 2003, 7:07 PM
well they're over in the sense that no new models will be made...
have you heard otherwise? <<mallon hopes desperatly for new skyline smiley face>>

Yeap Skyline GTR-35. I think it will go into production in 2005. I have some pics of the concept car.
mallon
May 30, 2003, 7:45 PM
YEAH!
you wanna send me them? - or give me a URL, im desperate to see them!
I was thinking it would be stupid for Nissan to give up the skyline. It was the only thing that made them a little cool in the land of Micro's and Sunny's. :D
Hopefully this skyline will go over the 1000Hp mark as well (I assume it will and then some!)

i actually cant believe how fantastic that car look.
They had a hard act to the follow... something tells me though that itll be more expensive, and less tunable. :(

Personally, i don't like the new styling of skyline R35. It's really too odd.
Anyway, the 350Z is much better than the infiniti. The G35 shouldn't have a backseat. It's totally useless. Now, I'm pretty average height, about 6ft, and I had to literally fold my body top squeeze into the back! The Hyundai Tiberon hade more room in it's back seat. It just doesn't make sense. The 350Z is a drivers car. It doesn't even have cupholders. And dare i say it's the american version of the skyline? (please, be gentle!)
mallon
Jun 07, 2003, 7:55 AM
And dare i say it's the american version of the skyline? (please, be gentle!)
you are talking about the 350Z? If so i think you're right. It was designed in american, and I assume for america!
To an american: Did the original skyline catch on over in america?
Mopar68
Jun 11, 2003, 5:37 PM
I don't think the skyline did. I heard somehting about skylines are now being legally imported into the US. Is this true?
mallon
Jun 11, 2003, 5:46 PM
you're an american so id say you're in a better position to answer that than most people!
I heard somehting about skylines are now being legally imported into the US
where they being illegally imported at one stage??
Anonymous
Jun 11, 2003, 5:55 PM
skylines were never sold form the nissan dealer in north america but there is a company in california that imports skylines from the states i think they are called motorex
the web site is http://www.skylinegtr.com/frameset.htm
Mopar68
Jun 11, 2003, 6:16 PM
exactly. But the R34's are insanely expensive. I saw one for $90000! Thats like a porsche turbo!
Anonymous
Jun 11, 2003, 8:43 PM
yeh. i can agree with that. its as expensive, but do some tuning and investing to a skyline and you'll easily get 1000+ hp :!: i think thats more than any other supercar.
Anonymous
Jun 11, 2003, 8:46 PM
and by the way, the r35 concept probably looks more classy than sporty cuz its based on the q45 platform
Mopar68
Jun 11, 2003, 9:54 PM
yeah, but the extra turbos and re-enforcing would be another $70,000+. As I said before, you have to change the turbos every couple of thousand miles. So, it's kind of inefficent to spend that much extra cas, unless your soul purpose for the car is using it to desamate at the dragstrip!
Anonymous
Jun 11, 2003, 11:48 PM
the reason a skyline is so expensive in the states is because of all the tarrifs and taxes u pay on it to bring it over
i live in toronto canada (and no i dont have SARS) and i dont think even that importer can bring it into canada
which would be a dream come true if they could
mallon

thats strange why nissan don tbring their best car to the biggest market in the world - Any americn Ive talked to seems to really want a Nissan.
Does Infiniti have a "skyline"?
Anonymous
Jun 21, 2003, 2:12 PM
in america no Infinite does not have a Skyline
mallon
Jun 21, 2003, 7:50 PM
you guys missed out there then
Its strange how nissans best car didnt make it to the biggest car market in the world.
At least youll get the 350Z!

The 350Z is a awsome looking car, and its performence is awsome, but where i live (los angeles) It has no respect out here. Many people race them against camaro's and other american muscles and they lose, in some cases really bad. I think it would awsome if Nissan came out with a 500Z. I would think it have a 5.0 V8 engine with an outpout of 390 horsepower. That would be insane.
Mopar68
Jun 24, 2003, 11:16 AM
500Z? I think that would be out of the number order of the car. Any way, wait a year or so. Greddy is devolping a twin turbo kit for the Z that will boost the hp to close to 500. So be patient, and good things will come.

Jun 24, 2003, 5:13 PM
The 350Z will be quite cool!
Saman
Jun 24, 2003, 11:39 PM
The 350Z is the fast car they have out in the U.S. market, sorry but to me that is pathetic, yet, it isn't to bad for a Datsun
mallon
Jun 25, 2003, 8:06 AM
maybe if you're are going to make such a controversial comment you could back it up?
Saman
Jun 25, 2003, 6:46 PM
Well I don't mean to put down Nissan, they are nice cars, but they don't produce any cars that produce atleast 300 horses. Don't get me wrong though, i feel that nissan produces cars sufficently well.
mallon
Jun 25, 2003, 7:29 PM
Nissan have made many versions of the Skyline with (much) more 300BHP.
And even if they didnt is that a reason to dismiss the 350Z because they dont make cars with 300BHP?
Taking that logic, you dont like Impreza's/Evo's?
Mopar68
Jun 26, 2003, 12:30 AM
The EVO/STi are in a whole diffrent ballpark than the 350Z. The Evo and STi are for the guy with a family of young kids. They want a back seat and four doors, but they want wicked performance, and both the STi and EVO deliver that better than any american car on the market. The 350Z is made for the coneseur. It's a roadster. It's for a man who doesn't even car that his car doesn't have cupholders! He wants dead on performance, and he has no need for a rear seat.
I also know that people have made 1000hp+ versions of the skyline, but come on, how many times are you going to push it to it's limits? I think 300hp is quite enough.
Saman
Jun 26, 2003, 12:40 AM
First off, if you can read right, i put down that Nissan was pathetic, not the 350Z, second in america we don't get the Skyline, if we attempt to import it the car cost way way way to much money
Mopar68
Jun 26, 2003, 1:21 AM
True, skyline are expensive to import, but they have them in the U.S. They don't sell thewm indealers though. They sell them at a place in California.
mallon
Jun 26, 2003, 7:32 AM
The EVO/STi are in a whole diffrent ballpark than the 350Z
dont worry i wasnt comparing them.
I was saysing that since Saman doesnt like Nissan since they dont have any 300BHP+ cars. Subaru/Mitsibishi dont, so if thats the way he thinks like that; he must feel the same about them?
Saman
Jun 26, 2003, 5:39 PM
your right i don't. Those cars are designed more for normal life (not all of them; Evo, STi, etc...), there are exceptions, but what i am trying to get to is that... well to be honest i don't know where i am going with this???
callbo
Jun 29, 2003, 8:58 PM
the 350z is the best and by the i think the skyline will never come to canada and usa
mallon
Jun 29, 2003, 9:16 PM
...well that may change with the new skyline due out quite soon. - I cant see Nissan making another car that cant be sold in the biggest market.
Anonymous
Jun 30, 2003, 2:31 AM
Nissan did have the 300zx Turbo in the early 90's which, if I'm not mistaken produced 300HP.
As far as the Sti and Evo are concerned they are AWD cars geared more toward rally racing. You're also comparing turbocharged inline-4 engines to the V6 of the Z, which does not have forced induction.
With the introduction of a turbocharger system in the Z, one can expect power that more closely resembles that of the Skyline, which is also turbocharged. The Z was originally intended to pump out about the same amount of power as the ZX if not more, but in order to meet C.A.R.B. many say the Z had to be detuned.
Just wait and see what the Z will be capable of in the future and I'm sure no one will be dissappointed in Nissan's work.

But the Z isn't all American......It has some Renault in it

Jul 19, 2003, 10:02 PM
Gah! All this Skyline talk. I know it does have a good connection to the cars in question, but it doesn't help you choose bewteen the cars in question! Arg. The 350Z is much more performance oriented. It has a harsher ride, but corners better, and it is lighter as well. It also has the bar across the trunk which impairs visibility and dampers the interior space. The G35 is a much more refined machine that still has an excellent power and drive train. The ride is more comfortable, but suprisingly not as far behind in handling as you would think. Yeah, the backseat might be for the kids, but thre IS a backseat, thats the point. And it's an Infiniti, that's to Nissan like what Audi is to VW. So you do get alot better overall quality car. Sure, it's not the boy toy everyone dreams of in college and is totally hot on the custom scene, but it's much easier to live with every day driving and comes with a higher status badge. G35 please, I'd like a smoother ride and sleeker styling.(the 350Z's is more hard and edgier, just not smooth)

G35 Performance
Curb Weight: 3416 lbs. Gross Weight: 4360 lbs.
Base Number of Cylinders: 6 Base Engine Size: 3.5 liters
Base Engine Type: V6 Horsepower: 280 hp
Max Horsepower: 6000 rpm Torque: 270 ft-lbs.
Max Torque: 4800 rpm Drive Type: RWD
Turning Circle: 37.4 ft.
350Z Performance
Curb Weight: 3188 lbs. Gross Weight: 3815 lbs
Base Number of Cylinders: 6 Base Engine Size: 3.5 liters
Base Engine Type: V6 Horsepower: 287 hp
Max Horsepower: 6200 rpm Torque: 274 ft-lbs.
Max Torque: 4800 rpm Drive Type: RWD
Turning Circle: 35.3 ft.
If you look at the numbers you can see that the 350z will barely win in a race, they probably have the same block I didn't check. Any modifications at all to the G35 at all will render the car almost identical. even a cold air intake would make them identical in hp and torque and maybe even more than the Z which already has performance mods, like a better exaust system. The G35 on one hand reaches max HP at lower rpm, which means its acceleration may in fact be faster but its heavier so who knows.we all know 7hp is nothing to set aside but this is easily achieved and beaten by the G35, which does have a cup holder plus holds two babes in the back. The only drawback is the weight of the G35 its roughly 250 lb more. If you ask me, same soul different body. I would take the 350Z cuz its an obvious "Poontang Magnet", but what do most girls know about cars anyway, the G35 is nicer looking anyhow, and can actually hold people What cars are for. I would take a S15 silvia or R34 skyline any day of the week over these two cars, we here in the US always get screwed so we scoop up fast new cars like the 350Z like crack heads. I wish I lived anywhere that has Skylines and 280 hp Rx7's maybe ill move. Sorry so long I couldn't sleep.
Saman
Jul 27, 2003, 4:57 PM
Wow, and there you have it ladies and gentlemen the full on stats. And yes they do have the same block. Based on stats the 350Z would win... barely. Which means it comes down to the better drive. There yea have it

About a year ago I readn an Issue of the Super Street Magazine and there was an article on this guy who spent X amount of dollars and X amount of time turning his Acura Interga into a 'Mini-skyline". There was a insane amount of body and anegine modifications, and it really did look like an infant GRT 34. Wild stuff.

Back to the G35 real quick, I've heard of a twin turbo kit in the works for it. You can just slap that motha' on there and still 'drag' when you need to, so the power 'benifits' from the 350Z stock are kinda obsolete if thats what it comes down to for you. Yeah, it still is not gonna handle like the 350Z, but the ride is much more confortable. I'd like a G35 for an everday, all day car. Yeah.....if only if you voted in these comparos and got want you wanted...

Aug 03, 2003, 10:23 PM
A G35 for weekdays, and a Z for weekends :D :D :D
The 350Z has 3 cup holders. Greddy is currently testing a twin turbo kit for the 350Z. With the money it would take to buy the G35 why not go for the Touring trim (leather seats)?

Aug 12, 2003, 2:43 AM
i think the 350z is way better than the g35.........yea g35 has 4 seats and supholders. but its heavier......so theres a tt kit for the g35???? well theres gonna be one for a 350z too...and plus the cheapest g35 is only 260 hp compared to the cheapest 350z which has 287hp.....350z is for more of a racer....compared to a family sports car liek the g35....
RiceBoy
Aug 13, 2003, 12:27 AM
But there are some exceptions......
The Supra's a 2+2, but still hauls more ass than anything in its class (well, maybe a skyline hauls more, but its gotta be too hella close to tell :? )
psh
Aug 13, 2003, 12:46 AM
They claim to have 3 cup holders on the Nissan website. Yes the cheapest G35 'only' has 260HP, but that is a sedan. I believe it would only be fair to compare the 350z with the G35 Sports Coupe.
RiceBoy
Aug 15, 2003, 5:52 PM
It's still the same hp in the coupe, right :?: :?: :?:
Infiniti G35 Coupe:
Base Engine Size: 3.5 liters
Base Engine Type: V6
Horsepower: 280 hp
Max Horsepower: 6000 rpm
Torque: 270 ft-lbs.
Max Torque: 4800 rpm
Nissan 350Z:
Base Engine Size: 3.5 liters
Base Engine Type: V6
Horsepower: 287 hp
Max Horsepower: 6200 rpm
Torque: 274 ft-lbs.
Max Torque: 4800 rpm
Both are RWD. The coupe is slightly below the Z in performance.
