It was a crappy day out around 3pm, people just wanted to get home, and I wanted to go to Comp USA to pick up a hub for my lan network at the house. The sky was gray and stuffy, squeezing out its condensation in form of drizzle, slightly coating the highway with a sheer film of water. As I attempted to get off of the highway, I slowed down to about 50mph nearing the offramp. A green pickup truck comes roaring from the offramp around 60-65 mph from a 30mph onramp as I was trying to make my right turn to the exit. I couldn't slow down and let the truck pass because some old female dog in a grey chevy station wagon was riding my tail, so I sped up to match the trucks' speed, got in front of it and exited the ramp. Apparently, I couldn't slow down fast enough (about 40-45mph before the turn) and I lost traction and slid into a metal signpost. I ruined my bumper, undercarriage (fortunately no radiator fluid leaked) Bent the frame to the radiator mount, hood wouldnt shut correctly, screwed up my tire's alignment by hitting the curb. My fan is broken, started smoking and fried the wire. I went to the insurance agency to see what they could do. Apparently it's going to cost me about 2,500 dollars. Well, actually its going to cost them about 2,500 dollars. I have to pay the deductable. So to make a long story short, there goes my 500 dollars of my s2000 engine savings down the tube.
I'm thinking I should have bought an older, cheaper civic.

yikes, sorry to hear that. but it seems you're ok seeing as how you're typing about the incident, so that's good. i was with my friends today and they were talking about how all of them have spun out or done something of that kind on the freeway or offramp during the rain. guess you've now been added to the list. rain is no good.

by the way... WOW you were gonna stuff an F20C into a civic?
aside from mounting issues, what about drivetrain issues?

screwed up my tire's alignment by hitting the curb.

Sorry to hear that but at least you're ok.... is the car still driveable?

TheCivicProject

It was driveable up until today. It won't start. I am very pissed. Ahh well, stuff happens... I was supposed to 'drive' it to the shop tonight, looks like I'm going to get it towed.

But with the s2000 conversion, i was going to mimic what they did with the honda civic Si to RSX-s conversion. Basically put all the parts of the S2000 into the civic. But in any event, won't be happening for a while.

That's rough lookin' man, you should take some comfort in this little tid bit. The day I bought my Ford Probe just happened to be the coldest day of two winters ago, and it broke down 3 miles from the place I was getting some stuff fixed at...Took an hour and a half to get the tow out there, and one of the things I needed fixed was the drivers side window, it was stuck in the down position, in January, at 9pm, in the snow.

But hey, $750 later, voila, a sporty car for me!!! :D Just takes patience man. S**t happens. 8)

What was your window doing up in the first place if it was winter?

if i did put a s2000 engine into the civic, it wouldnt be 'stuffed' in. actually the gsr engine is a little bigger, but the mounts fit perfectly. drivetrain can be arranged, but the more deeply i look into it, the more it costs me

sorry too lazy to go into detailslol

yea the bad thing about our hobby is that our hobby means money. am I right? and their are so many things to do to a car that a bunch of inexpensive stuff can add up to be a good chunk of money. :x besides the money thing I think cars is one of the best hobbies out there.

I am sorry to hear about your accident... :(
Things could be worse... if you didn't hurt yourself, don't worry about pieces of metal (car parts) and/or pieces of green paper ($). :)

Yeah its okay, i find some meaning in this mishaps. I think it can be humbling at times, put you in a state of actual perspective.

Pretty much - unless you want to start collecting stamps. I'm sorry to hear that CivicProject.. :( It looked bad, but nothing too intensive. I think that if you had the right tools and parts you could do it yourself, but we all have lives to attend to, right? :P
