Well, I decided to make a thread with an official sketch of what the 2009 Jaguar XJ will look like and some brief info about its engine line-up and so on.

The engine line-up will consist of the following:
Diesels:
-Possibly a 160bhp 2.2T I4
-a 206bhp 2.7TT V6
-a 240bhp 3.0TT V6
-a 276bhp 3.6TT V8
Rumours say that a bigger and/or more powerful diesel (problably a highly-tuned version of the 3.6TT V8 or a whole new engine, most likely a V8) is on its way a few years after the XJ's launch to compete with Mercedes and Audi's extremely powerful diesels.

Petrols:
-Possibly a 197bhp 2.5 V6
-a 240bhp 3.0 V6*
-a 250bhp 3.2 I6
-possibly a 300bhp 3.2T/TT I6
-possibly a modified version of the 4.2 V8*
-a 360bhp 5.0 V8
-a 500bhp 5.0 supercharged V8 (featuring in the high-performance XJR).
*Engines may be replaced by different versions of the 3.2 I6.

Rumours say that a bigger and/or more powerful diesel (problably a highly-tuned version of the 3.6TT V8 or a whole new engine, most likely a V8) is on its way a few years after the XJ's launch to compete with Mercedes and Audi's extremely powerful diesels. Also, it's been said that a powerful V12 could be introduced into the line up at some point (although that may have all changed, due to Ford's selling of Aston Martin; no V12's will readily be availble to be modified, and whether Jaguar will have the funds to make one from scratch is unknown), to help the XJ compete with the best of the best, such as the Aston Martin Rapide, Bentley Continental Flying Spur and the Mercedes S65 AMG. This model would be more comfort and luxury-orientated, unlike its performance-orientated 'sister' car, the XJR.

It'll have all the fancy stuff, such as Jaguar's touch-screen interface system; basically like BMW's iDrive (already used in the XK, will be improved further in the new XJ), its aluminium-alloy structure, its air-suspension and CATS suspension system, and should still weigh in at under 1700kg - very little for a huge luxury car like itself. It'll still have the XJ's class-leading driving dynamics, competitive pricing and Jaguar's great build quality/reliability.

Although it has some of the same styling cues as the new XF, it will remain a class of its own and with a separate styling flavour, and one of the key designs will be the company’s new saloon car trademark rectangle grille design, and the ellipsoid grille for sports cars, which is seen on the new XK series.

Here's an official sketch from Jaguar's design department of what the new XJ will something look like:

S'all looking good to me!

Looks cool but it doesn't look similiar to the XF Concept Car so that hints Jaguar want a completely different look for their cars that maybe a good thing with most manufacturers going for a 'family look' has they call it, might give Jaguar a slight edge over its rivals

I hope things pick up for Jaguar in terms of sales, by looking at the XF and this I can't see why not bcause they are damn good company :) !

It looks very nice from that sketch, but just keep in mind - the actual product released is way different from the design sketch. Like for Toyota when they designed this sedan it turned out to be a hatch later on - things change a lot in the manufacturer as time goes on. Looks promising from just this pic, but the performance if you ask me is not so good - a 240 hp with a 3.0 litre engine? that's little. But again I hope they improve on that. Nice find anyway..

I know for a fact the new XJ will resemble that sketch. The XF resembles its original sketch a lot... I suppose it's different for different automotive designers whether the car looks like its original plans or not.

240bhp from a naturally-aspirated 3.0-litre is quite a lot if I'm honest... 80bhp per litre... That isn't little at all! Audi's 3.2 V6 has 247bhp, and even that's quite powerful for its displacement...

Hmm, it's nice to see Jaguar coming up with both diesel and petrol engines. But what i'm excited about is the 500bhp 5.0 supercharged V8 in the XJR, thats a hell of a lot of power! And for the other engines, they sound pretty promising. As for the car, i think it's looks pretty good, although i'm not a big fan of that huge grille though...But overall it's nice.

The new Jaguar's and Aston's all look the same. I know they are from the same company but please put different designers or so.. Anyway this looks ok, i just can't see much (it seems you took a photo from a magazine, so that middle thing disturbs). 500hp 5.0 supercharged V8 :D

Aston Martin is not owned by Ford anymore. AM was sold to Prodrive.
Nice looks almost the same as the XF coupe concept with two extra door. This is a very elegant drawing. Not the biggest Jaguar fan but this looks awesome!

It doesn't look so good from the sketch. I don't know. It's so early to discuss about this car. But i like the fact that it will come out with a 3.0 litre engine with 240hp. That's good. But we must see how this car will look like. I mean some spyshots or something like that. Promising. :p

I think the 280bhp 3.6 V8 diesel or the 500bhp 5.0 supercharged V8 petrol are more impressive myself :-k.

And also the fact that the 3.2 I6 could be turbocharged to over 300bhp to take place of the 4.2 V8's, as it creates more power and torque, yet emits less carbon dioxide and has a better fuel economy.

I blike the XK, XJ, and S-Type because they all have their own identity, yet they all look like a Jauguar. The new XF and XJ look almost identical in shape. They both look really similar to th XK now, just with different grills. I'll wait for the production models before I pass judgement, but I hope Jaguar doesn't loose its charm.

I said that cause this engine will be an entry level for this car. So it will be cheap. So it's quite impressive for me to see a jaguar with this engine. Of course the other engiines are impressive. Quite impressive is the 5.0 supercharged engine. :|

To be honest, I have to say it's not a pretty car. Bold yes, but unproportionate, has a really long snout and isn't as pretty as it's rivals. I have to say the engines sound very good indeed, the XKR engine was fabulous and made a great noise, so hopefully we will see that in the XJ, and if a V12 went into that car, that would be really really impressive. Sort out the styling though!

good members think alike bro...good members think alike. I'd have to say...Jaguar is trying a bit too hard to get attention. Calm down, take a deep breath, and focus on the details.

Ford?! What do they have to do with this lol! :| It's Jaguar's design work, nothing to do with Ford. All they do is help to fund Jaguar...

Sorry, but Aston Martin are owned by a UK consortium headed by the boss of Prodrive. Prodrive and AM are not related.
