For god shame on Honda. It's a really good engine in S2000 with 240 bhp.Look at the torque.21,2 Kgm of torque. What they can do with that torque? It's really low torque for a car like this. What did you expect from a 2000 cc car???A Fiat Ulysse has 29 Kgm of torque.Godness...Discuss this post please. It's a really good duscussion about the torque of this car.

I believe honda tends to concentrate more on handling than raw power. However, with some modifications and proper tuning their engines are able to pump out a considerable amount of power. What's the redline on the Ulysse? I doubt it's anywhere near the 9000 RPMs that the S2000 is accustomed to. Not only this but even the two Ulysse models that are turbocharged don't produce anywhere near the same amount of power as the S2000.

Everyone knows the Honda S2000 lacks some low end torque, but that can remedied easily enough. In any case you shouldn't trust some of the numbers that car companies give you. They usually only speak of peak powers and they don't tell you how the car really performs over the power band.

The same happens also with the Mazda RX-8. It has 230hp and it's torque is 21.5

You know what? I'd take the S2000 over any Mustang, Camaro, or other car that has more power, of whatever sort. It's handling is the most extreme of EXCELENT and it's quite powerful for an Inline four. That's Natural Asparation too. I press you to find another engine with the same quality and power. There's not other N/A I-4 liek it. Yeah, good point, thats merely stock. I'm sure as well that with minimal tuning you can unlock alot more torque, there's always limitors on factory cars that can be modifed. Slap it up with a Twin Turbo kit(which will run in the 10 thousand dollar range when it comes out) and nothing will be able to touch you. The current superchargers aren't bad, but I prefer turbo by a long shot.

It's excelent engine, yes, but being inline 4 NA is the reason of the lack of torque, the time i test drove one i slammed it down and a few boooooooooring seconds before getting some power, as for cornering, thats another issue, great car, is like a cheaper lotus or something

I saw a video with a S2000.It's handling was like a bus.I don't know but I think that was the driver and not the car.He was a Japanese with an ugly face... :P

If u have the hands and the balls..

That's something people confuse, good handling is not equivalent as easy to drive, thats why people use to think that the viper is bad........well it's not, same applies here, the car is not forgiving, it's very sharp and requires actual skill to be driven correctly

21.2 Kgm of torque is quite good for a 2lt NA engine. The reason why the S2000 can reach 240 HP and the extraordinary thing about it is that the redline is at 9000 rpm!! Exactly the same goes for the RX-8.
Which means that if you want to drive fast, you gotta keep the revs over 5000-6000. For normal rides in the city, however (like getting your girl out for a ride  ), low-revving and 21.2 Kgm of torque is more than enough.

PS: Trust Honda, you won't be disappointed by the company's engines.

Honda did unveil a new version of the S2000 with a 2.2-litre i-VTEC engine producing 250bhp tentatively named the S2200 at the Detroit Motor Show in January. Hopefully the new engine will also produce some more low end torque, but one can never know until they get behind the wheel and drive.

I've read about that. The company officially anounces that there will be more low-end torque. However, IMO, the old 2lt engine will be better. The 2.2 does not hit 120PS/lt...

There's always aftermarket tuning mien froind
Yeah, it doesn't have the same PS/lt the older one does, but it's still a STELLAR engine. I'm just glad they're progesssing the brand.

IMHO, the 2.0 i-VTEC of the S2k is one of the 3 best engines ever made.

thats not just your opinion! Everyone who knows anything about cars should think that. 8)
