Today, Juan Pablo Montoya won the Nascar Nextel Cup race at Sears Point(Infineon) Raceway at Sonoma CA driving the #42 Robert Yates Texaco Havoline Dodge.

Yes thats true, but thats not the whole story, after all it was Robby Gordon who had the dominant car today. Nevertheless a win is a counted as a win even if it is on fuel mileage. Good finish for my driver Burton at a 3rd. Gordon and Stewart came all the way back to 6 and 7 and poor Jaime, all the way from the lead to 37th in what a space of 5 laps, tough break.
This will hopefully show the world that NASCAR is a place where one can succeed and make a whole bunch of money racing 42 other guys. Maybe we will get an influx of drivers from a more diverse cultural and race background in the future because of this.
Also if anyone saw the Busch race, I feel awful for Almirola, getting your first win and you aren't even racing in the car at the finish.

Dammit/ie7 crashed during edit.
With 19 laps to, the order was McMurray, Harvick, Montoya inside 1.3 seconds.
McMurray was told he could NOT make it.
Harvick was told he could make it IF he saved gas. He did so excessively.
Montoya was told he could not make it UNLESS he saved gas. I think he turned his radio off! 1 lap later he passed Harvick for 2nd.
With 8 to go Montoya did a failed inside late brake attempt in turn 11; ran wide, and got scissored by McMurray(locking brakes often!). 2 laps later; Montoya got by cleanly. McMurray went dry and finished 37th. Harvick came in 2nd.

Nascar put on a GREAT road race with the world's heaviest race cars! Much suspense for many laps! Kudos to TNT for showing Stewart's polite "'scuse me please" pass on Gordo for 6th with 4 to go(snicker.)

"Foreigner wins NASCAR race in his first season; rednecks goes on rampage"
I wonder how loud the boo was when he crossed the line?

Glad TV showed the polite "'scuse me please" pass Smoke put on Gordo for place.
I was quite surprised that Gordon didn't make a fuss about it in his post race interview with Bob Dilner on SPEED, just passed it off as great racing. I was glad tony did what he did, its a road course, you have fenders, its crunch time, use it or lose it.
Actually nist, I didn't hear any boos when he crossed the line or any boos when he got out in victory lane, could be wrong though.

Of course jeffie will talk nice. Come Tuesday his(and jj's) REAL penalty will be determined. Being the dominant team this season; they should know better. 100 points would be trivial for them.
I say slam/nuke 'em.

I dont see why NASCAR is soo exciting to watch, i mean all you see is cars going around circles.

Have you ever seen Infineon Raceway?
And besides , it's not that easy to drive a 3500 pound car @ 200mp/h centimetres away from the car infront , behind & left & right of you is it?
I enjoy watching it cause it's a sport of skill.
Ahh the gool ol Robert Yates Havoline machine...
I was the biggest fan of Ernie Irvan back in 94 when he was racing for Robert Yates. The same sponsor , same color scheme...only it was a Ford back then.
I'm quite proud to wear my official Robert Yates Racing team jacket when it gets cold. And damn it keeps me warm.

I think it's like golf. It'll be hugely fun doing it and being there live, but it's a bit boring on TV. What I'd like to know is how difficult it is compared to other forms of racing, rally, F1 etc... Infact, what I'd love to know who would win if different drivers from different types of racing drove in a neutral race, in the same car. I'm sure some drivers would have the advantage depending on the race but I'd love to see Gordon Vs Alonso Vs Loeb Vs Montoya Vs Raikkonen Vs Gronholm Vs The Stig Vs Jeremy Clarkson.
I think that would be one hell of a good race.
No doubts who would be coming in last though uh?

"It doesn't matter if it's an inch or a mile, winning is winning."
I was pretty surprised that Montoya had luck on his side with his car being driven on the home stretch of the course on fumes.
If it hadn't been for the fact that Jeff Gordon and Jimmie Johnson had Top 10 finishes after starting dead last, I wouldn't have watched the miracle finish.

^Actually while you are right in one way, its the first win he got in the top series, which is where he primarily came to race in NASCAR.
and mclaren_mercedes_f1 if you don't have anything smart to say don't say anything at all.

There's a race called "Race of Champions" and they have the best F1 drivers going against the best Rally, DTM, LeMans drivers.
FYI Here's the website

Why did you put Jeremy Clarkson in there? He can powerslide through corners but he's a lousy driver.
Montoya's cool and I'm happy that he won.

Someone please correct me if I am wrong; but Nascar Cup cars are the HEAVIEST race cars to turn RIGHT in 70 years, if not longer.
"I dont see why NASCAR is soo exciting to watch, i mean all you see is cars going around circles."
Someone please correct me if I am wrong; but mclaren_mercedes_f1 should STFU in motorsports when he doesn't know merde. Sears Point(Infineon) is a ROAD COURSE!
Nemphis; Montoya's other Nascar win was in a Busch series race in Mexico D.F. Does anybody care/remember who won an F3000 or A1GP race???
Kudos, wesleypipes; for remembering "swervin Irvan" driving a Yates Ford! Before Montoya won from 32nd(!) start; the previous best at Sonoma had been a win from 13th. Irvan started from 2nd, got black-flagged for jumping the start, took a drive-through penalty, and WON. In cruder terms; he kicked every ass that stayed alive long enough for him to catch them! Total domination.

For a joke. It would be funny to see how he would compare to pros

I actually watched the race the other day, Montoya raced very cleanly and his passes were clear. It didn't help with the fact he was gonna run out of fuel with about 5 laps to go, but he didn't and brought it home for his team.
The only thing I'd say that this was a road course, and Montoya, was/is probably the best at that in Nascar.

It's nice to have a lady on the board, cheeky; especially one that takes care to make measured posts.
Were there Nascar fans here as narrow in their interest as yours in F1; they would take serious issue with your "was/is" best on road course judgement about Montoya. jeff gordon has won 5 races at Sears Point/Infineon; Tony Stewart has won 2. Montoya is about 2 bumps away from getting parked for a couple of races for his antics on ovals.
Criticism aside; Montoya won from 32nd starting position. The previous best had been 13th. On a longer course in '92; Ernie Irvan won from outside pole after being black flagged on the 1st lap for a stop & go penalty for jumping the start.
