Either the 205 Gti or the 106 GTi. The modern ones are fat, underpowered, ugly and have flobbery chassis. The older ones were a lot rawrer, stuck to the road like glue and were quality pieces of French machinery. We need a new Pug GTi that was actually worth getting excited about. Their models are too lukewarm, and I think that started with the 306 Gti. Not really good looking enough, so hopefully there's a very sporty model in the pipeline.

If I please may correct you:

The Peugoet 206 GTI does not have 180 hp(177 to be exact), but 136 hp. It's the 206 RC which has the more powerful enginge with 177 hp.

-Not that's a big deal.

Peugeot has stated offically, that the new Peugeot 308 will be availible in a RC version with over 220 hp, plus a GTI with less. And rumors has it, that the new 207 also will come in a "extreme" RC version with over 220 hp.

I think also, that the Peugeot 106 Rallye should be mentioned. It's not a full-grown GTI, but it drives the socks of most "true" GTI's.

My prefered Peugeot GTI would be either the 309 or the 205, both of drive, as someone mentioned, extremely well, and in my openion, you want find a car that gives you more driving pleasure than a Peugeot 205 1,9 GTI!

That sure as hech ain't a factory car, 'cos the only 206's wtih a turbo are the HDi(diesels) and the WRC. So- I don't think it's relevant to use a non-standard car as an examble, 'cos who knows how that thing is, only you know how that (sounds like quite a beast anyway :D ) car will be like. Sorry if I articulate myself in a rude way towards you, I don't mean too!

the 106... I just love this car... It's light, fast, handles really well... IMO the 106 and the 205 are the best GTI's Peugeot ever made...

No, for me I like the modern GTi's, the older ones are really crap though, out of these it'd be the 206 GTi for sure, looks great with the hood and all that, the one after that is nice but the bumper looks bad.. 206 is better, mainly because its a lot more modern looking than the others..

they did a 206 gti180 a few years back which did have 180bhp,

also the 106 quicksilver is a good one, its not as fast as the gti but handles amazing and looks great, i love the top end 106's they are better than all modern peugeot

This is hard, i really like the 205 since it was good at rallying, especially in group b. But i also like the 206 becuase it's sporty looking and the 207 becuase it looks very modern, but it has an ugly front bumper. So overall im going with the 206 gti, it's a nice hot hatch that's good looking and moderately powered.

I think that the pug 106 is the best here. At least for me. It has a good engine and it has a great handling. It's a great car, i think. Here in Greece we have so many 106's. They are so popular in Greece.

In my opinion, the 106 GTI is the best. It's lightweigh and handles like a dream. The acceleration is really good and the brakes are up to the task (4 disk brakes).
This car has the same appearance as a 75hp 106, so it's funny to smoke a BMW and look at the driver's face at the next traffic light.

the 205 1.9 GTi was the best car that ever came out of the Sochaux factory, if you ask me. it was light, agile and had enough power to prove itself worthy.

the new GTi's are nowhere near that, and I don't know why. Peugeot has the technology to make good small cars (the sucess it had in WRC recently shows that), but somehow all they came up is the 207 GTi, a big, slow, heavy and underpowered car... what a shame !

well the old peugeot were light and agile because safety wasnt a big issue at the time but times have changed

i'll take the new 207 GTi out of these. great looking car, although the way it only has 5 gears and 173bhp (its predecessor, the 206 GTi, had 6 gears and 180bhp, and is also lighter ) slightly puts me off. good value for money, performance and looks, though. i prefer modern hot hatches to the old ones; i was too young to know about cars as much as i do now when they were around.

the 206 GTi is a naturally-aspirated 2.0-litre.

turbocharging the 206 2.0 is very popular and cheap. a lot of people do it
