9ff - the fastest car in the world
The McLaren F1 has stood unchallenged as the fastest road-legal car for nearly a decade, but now a tiny German tuning outfit is aiming to crack 250mph. Brett Fraser stands well back as 9ff's 830bhp Porsche 911 takes on Nardo and the F1...

I read that article in evo on that too. but what I want to know is, why the Koenigsegg which is faster than the F1 has never been proved to be faster... i dont understand that,
and welcome to SCF, Exige, ever been for a ride in one? quality car that ;)

I too herad that the koenigsegg was tested in mexico and it reached something like 252MPH, but i cant figure why it wasnt replaced with the Mclaren?
Also there a newish car called the chysler me four-twelve which is does 248mph, also faster than the F1.

Ghalos
Feb 20, 2005, 3:57 PM
ME Four Twelve was a concept, and has since been cancelled for production. The reason the F1 is still king is because the Koenigsegg hasn't yet been officially clocked at 240+...But, given time it will. And the 9ff is a tuner, aftermarket, and as such doesn't count. And besides, that honor still stands with us American's and our late eighties Sledgehammer Corvette, clocking it at 252 mph.

jimkk29
Feb 20, 2005, 6:24 PM
The 9ff did 388 km/h and the F1 did 391. I read the EVO article too, but I don't see how they beat the F1. :-k

We should put this all to rest. The fastest stock/not modified production car is the Bugatti 16/4 Veyron. Second is the Saleen S7 Twin-Turbo. Third is Koenigsegg. Facts are facts.

Facts are facts...And yours are 100% wrong...

1-The Bugatti has yet to be delivered to it's customers.
2-It has yet to be tested officially
3-It's ass overdue
4-It's aerodynamics suck, and not in the good, "Sucked to the road way"

The other cars there have yet to be officially tested...Deal with it. I'm starting to get tired of this constant "The modified Vette/Skyline/etc.. is faster.." Yes, they are, but they're not bone stock fast like the F1 from the factory. The Koenigsegg is, as is the Bugatti, but the Koenigsegg that has been built and delivered to a number of customers has yet to be officially topped out and verified.

GET USED TO IT
The McLaren F1 is STILL the FASTEST P-R-O-D-U-C-T-I-O-N car.

yeah i agree but C-U-R-R-E-N-T production car! It would be the Veyron. I've got some videos of them testing the Veyron. I wish they would just get it over with and do a top speed run with it!!! IAs much as i love the F1, It's time a German car company (like Bugatti) Kicks those brit's @$$! get used to it. McLaren Isn't the greatist car in the world! Allthough it may be the coolest.

Ghalos
Feb 20, 2005, 8:24 PM
Current production means they've got customers cars out already, and as such. That means the chronically late Bugatti doesn't count, which btw, has biiiiig aerodynamic problems, see that one that spun out at Laguna Seca?? Exactly, it was only goig 124mph, that's HALF the projected top speed.

And as for McLaren not being the best, I'm not saying they are the best, but the F1 still holds the title for fastest car on the road ever made from the factory.

Fastest car out right now?? And still in production?? That's the Koenigsegg CC8S, it's done 228 mph at Nardo in the RAIN, before it was called off because of some good reason.

The Bugatti is late, not a single car has been sent to the customer yet. Know why? They, VW, spent so much on the looks that they forgot a car that fast should be designed from aerodynamicists, not from stylists. Hence why it spun at Laguna Seca at 120+ mph. That's sad, and honestly, it weighs too much, the tires are too wide, the bulges up front will loosen the air stream on the rear of the car and thus, lose the rears traction.

I hope this car can make up for it's lateness, over pricedness, crappy looks, and generally waste of money on a car "ness", and prove me wrong. Because when it came out, I along with everyone else cried and drooled at the same time.

It did last year at Nardo in the rain but the driver called it off at 228mph because of some oil problems or something...This summer though...Watch out, the CC8S isn't alone, they're bringing the manicly powerful 806bhp CCR. :D

Isn't the Veyron production? If so, that's faster than the Koenigsegg.

I refrained from ridiculing this inane thread for months. Now that a mod has recently replied to an old thread(where are you, Malin?) instead of chastising, I guess I can comment.

Certifiably, the fastest car in the world is the Thrust SSC at 766.6 mph over a measured mile.

Arguably, the Bud Rocket car reached mach 1 in 1979 at 739 mph based on Edwards AFB radar, photos of shockwave ahead of the front wheels, and the fact that alledged compressibility took the rear wheels off the ground for over 300 yards.

The fastest piston engine wheel driven car so far has gone 417.020 mph on the salt. A late MR-2 with a 5-valve 4AG-E (destroked to 1.5 L) mit turbo has gone 199 mph.

Top Fuel dragsters make 6000 hp for 5 seconds. 3-4 runs requires a $100K rebuild. Infinite boost = finite shorter life, just like drugs.

Production? Porsche showed chassis/parts/bodywork enough to convince FIA of 25 "production" 917's. Counting test and Can-Am cars, they probably did eventually build 25 cars. There is no way that Ferrari ever built 25 "production" 512's!

The Vector was introduced almost 25 years ago. With many different owners/powertrains, they built almost 25 cars. Was that a production car?

I thought the Bugatti EB112 4-turbo was a lot of big talk. They eventually built almost 125 of them. Was that a production car?

Did not McLaren build 100 +/- F1's? Was that a production car?

How many Enzos have been built so far?

All of you "koenigseggheads" need to get a grip on reality. Quoting the Guiness Book for "fastest production car" is moronic. How many cars have been built/sold???

Ghalos

You're vehicule is the "world's fastest ground vehicule"

It is not a "CAR" like it is stated in the topic
It's a some sort of ground rocket, and it can only be driven in some desert in arizona I think, not in the streets. pg3

Actually you are wrong the Groundfighter is a street car that is fully street legal or at least was before it was "upgraded" The groundfighter is now about 2000-3000 hp on alcohol and 4000-5000 on nitro. All that needs done is it needs reverse lights and mufflers and its back on the streets. It very well could be the fastest street legal car in the country maybe world. If you have any questions email we are home of the All American Groundfighter.

I'm glad the Ultima GTR was invoked earlier 0-100-0 is a much more interesting performance indicator than who can shehorn the biggest engine into something with decent enough aerodynamics and then sell it to mugs. I like stuff that's built near where I was born too (the Noble is notable here).
I think a standard laptime is an even better benchmark. The Nurburgring official site don't list the production car record, so that is hard to verify, but every time I read about the Donkervoort, the commentators say it took the record off Porsche by 15 seconds, but didn't the Radical SR3 Turbo hold the record at 7:19, so how reliable is that? You could claim like, Top Gear, that the Radical isn't a real production/road car, but you can buy one and drive it on the road legally (in the UK at least ;) ) so whatever.

Oh I like this too, a mad car done the British way: http://www.zcars.org.uk/ultima/ultima-background.htm (Groundfighter pfft)

Well for 0-60 times refer to the post prior to yours, 0-100 times erm... anyone know? I presume a good 0-60 car might put in a good 0-100, I suppose it depends on how many times you need to change gear. :-k Look at good 0-100-0 cars too, though that's as much about braking and reactions as it is about pulling away.
I have no idea about 1/4 miles, anyone else?

Second..the ultima GTR can put down faster 1/4 than that... It's just yet to be tested for it's 1/4 times... It's 0-100-0 is 9.8 seconds..
that's faster than the SLR Mclaren's 0-100 by .2 seconds..

The Ultima GTR did a 1/4 in it's 0-200 test and it in the 9's...But no one recorded it's 1/4 so it's not official...besides...1/4 is lame..No one cares...

LOL this is 2½ years old. It has just got revived each half year or something.

The fastest car in the world?
Nobody can answer that question, because the Pescarolos were faster than the R8. But the R8 has the world record on Le Mans. 3:33.483 done by Tom kristensen. - It's all who's behind the wheel.

Top speed doesn't matter. Nobody wanna drive 407 KM/h when the airintakes are closed for optimal aerodynamic, which will cause the engine can blow up every second. And it's using all the fuel in less than 70 km... - The Veyron.

It smells so damn good, and the eath will ge hit by a big fat cloud in 2014, which either will cause an ice age or the end. - So we don't even have time to kill the earth with diesel pollution anyway:)
But the engine sound is unfortunately another story:( - Sounds like two skelettons fighting on a tin-roof, in a masive hail shower. "DAng - Dakkelakkedakkelakkedakkelakke"

fortunately 'the end' is never really the end after all.
Usually there are still subtitles and some bloopers after 'the end'.

Would be cool to end the world with subtitles though.

Not only super cars are thirsty cars.
An unmodded S13 with CA18DET engine can drink 20-25 liters on 100 km without problems.
All you have to do is rev it over 5500 rpm.

Ok, that'd still leave an action radius of a massive 200km or so on a full tank of fuel.

2 HENNESSEY DODGE VIPER VENOM 800 2,400
3 DAUER RACING 962 LE MANS 2,793
4 ULTIMA GTR Le Mans 2,800
5 RENAULT ESPACE F1 2,896

I swear 1.970 That's horrible fast!!

greetz : Danny!

Horribly fast, psh, top fuel is like .4 seconds on average, not even the record.
At the highest level drag racing is more like a giant sling shot, the engine is like the rubber band, the rev it up and then they drop the hammer and the tires dont even spin, they just squash and kinda throw it down the track.

But for a road car, 1.9 is pretty crazy.

Let this thread die. It will be turning 3 years before we we all admit that the Leghingergingerfighther Corvette is the fasest car.

The halltech corvette does 0-100km/h in 1.4 seconds:

http://www.z06-corvette.com/super/halltech.htm

Anyway, top fuelers are obviously the fastest.

That is the first time I'm impressed by a corvette engine bay!

Anyways, 1.4 seconds is still too dependant on road surface and a ton of other variables. I'll have to see it to believe it.

I've been impressed by vette engines since Le Mans 2004. 2005 made me even more impressed... - That such a sweet little engine can make a car as hot as a sauna... Thats impressive. Oliver Gavin and Oliver Beratta got sick, so Magnusees had to drive extra stints.

HAHA i cant believe that F1 Renault Espcae is so fast, the idea of an Espace even doing 60mph let alone accelerating there from 0 in less than 3 secs is pretty funny IMO

Well its not so hard to believe once you get hold of its specs:

Engine: 40 valve V-10
Displacement: 3500cc
ventilated carbon discs brakes
Top speed of 194 mph
800bhp at an unspecified RPM
520 ft lb of torque also unspecified

Not a bad little car. But the thing looks like the freakin ugliest cars you have ever seen.

the 2006 veyron 16.4 has tested to 253 mph... stock and untuned... it also surpasses the enzo and carrera gt in top speed, acceleration and braking... 250 mph to stopped in less than ten seconds with no hands on the steering wheel... it does lose to the o5 hennessey srt-10 viper venom 1000 coupe... but it does beat the mac 1 ... mclaren used to be my dream car... till bugatti came out with this bad boy... w16... that's 2 v8's right next to eacother... how the hell do they do that?! when braking from over 100 mph the spoiler hits 70 degrees for an air broake... and when accelerating over 110 the car drops from 4.9 inches to 2.6 inches... and all with the luxury of a maybach... who cares if a mclaren even does beat it... or anything else for that matter... this car is the ****...

v10 man, was made to celebrate the 10 years(i think) of the espace wagon and the renault formula 1 team, so it has the formula 1 engine in the back, which is probably not very reliable for too much driving and i cnat even imagine the heat you will feel in the sitting inside, but o my its sexy.
