Favourite VW? I don't really like Volkswagen.
Among all the Golfs, I just like this version

I like how it looks. It's like the best looking Golf until now.

I had a 69 bug once. Got it dirt cheap because the shifter was broken. Welded that up, and it sat most of the time. It got stolen one night, and I collected the insurance. That had to be my favorite because I got $2,500 insurance money for a car I paid $150 for

Between the Beetle and the MK2 GTI.

Both are simple, fun, interesting cars which were both forebearers of the future...The GTI was the first hot hatch, the Beetle made cars available and affordable for anyone and everyone.

It's a shame VW has been stuck in crapola city since, oh, 1982.

Its a tie between the GTi and the buggy. Dune buggies even more so-or are they built off differnt platforms?

Ehhhh, Error. That would be the Ford Model T. Not the VW Beetle.

This is off-topic, and I don't want to get into a political hoo-haa,

--SRT Expert, that picture isn't helping the opinion of our country in this international forum. Besides that, you're only 13, dude. No offense, but I imagine you don't know poli-sci quite yet. Careful with touchy pictures.

Ehh, yeah, you're right. But still, the Beetle was concieved of the same concept, and it's followthrough was cool. Not that the Model T's wasn't, but the Beetle is just, idunno, neat.

Jun 01, 2007, 12:27 AM
Oh I don't disagree at all. The Beetle is very cool little car. It had a good designer. I think he went on to make some other cars...but I don't think they were very successful....;)

As for the successor, The Model A ruled! Gangstar power! My grandad has owned several and everytime I get next to it I want to jump on the running boards and put on a fedora and fire off a Thompson at the coppahs!

Well, because of the amount of power it has, and the twin turbos. Also because I like the paint and graphic of ther car.

I actually like the GT better than the GTI or R32. I dunno y...
I just like the idea that there is a new technology out there that could change low capacity engines into high power beasts, still with high mpg.

Probably something like the R32. I think it's one of the best modern Golfs around. A great interior, great looks and a classy engine. Yeah, it's a little heavy, but it's not that hard on the wallet and it can be good to live with from day to day, I would think.

If you don't want the extra power and more fuel money, just go for the GTi, yet again it's a great looking car, with great performance, and good to live with.

I'm going to say the Pheaton. SOmething about an Audi with a VW badge just interests me. The GTi is a good car, but it doesn't got that weird story too tell. Its hard to explain. this car is just so likable because its so un-vee dubish, yet it is in some strange way. Plus since they lost so much value, you can get a used one cheap!

My favorite VW has got to the the Volkswagen W12 Nardo Concept, it's one of the fastest VWs ever made and it's one of the best looking too! My second favorite is probably the recent Volkswagen GTi W12 650 Concept. It looks awesome and it has loads of power! The R32 and Golf GTi are too bad either.

Beetle has the best story of the lot. Hitler, world war two, beetle was a massive money maker ? Go look it up, Hitler was really quite clever, but ya know, deranged.

And the great great Dr. Ferdinand Porsche made it!!! :)

you aren't entirely right. I admire Dr. Porsche a lot for all he's done, from WWII tanks to small cars. but he got the idea of the original Käfer car from a czech Tatra model from the early 1930's (I don't remember exactly the name of it, sadly). if you have the ocasion to see the prototype of the first Käfer one day and be able to compare it with that Tatra car, you'd be astonished: not only the exterior design but also the rear mounted, air cooled engine, the transmission, etc. are very, very similar (I don't want to say "are the same").
I'm not criticising you, just making a small precision. ;)

As for the topic, I won't give you a model name, but an engine. a type of motor to be precise: the VR ("V-Reihenmotor") engine. one of the greatest (if not the greatest) of VW's achievements as far as I'm concerned.

EDIT: I just remembered the DSG gearbox. I'd put that, but then again it was made in close collaboration with Audi, and I think it would be a bit off topic.

http://www.carpages.co.uk/volkswagen/volkswagen_images/volkswagen-golf-gti-19-05-07.jpgThis car shouldn't count in my opinion, for no one knows what it does, and it will never be produced. I don't even consider it a VV, just more of a monster garage experiment.
