Hmmm, I don't know WHAT to think. Looks diffrent......I can't tell if its bad or good right now. I was just so in love with the previous design I know my perspective is terribly biased  Now I think I can see why the new BMW design upset so many people. I'm gonna bite my tounge till I can calm down, hehe

Okay, lemme hear it, good or bad?

I like it. The Golf was in a bad need of a facelift. The last time it had a new face was what, ten years ago? I like it. It looks like a small toureg. It's agressive, but not really agressive. No big wheel arches, no funny headlights, not goofy cladding and no real fuss. It's moderen, but functional. I like it. Can't wait to see what the R32 version will look like!

Raith83
Jul 31, 2003, 4:50 PM
The R32 it going to be too awesome! I think the new design will grow on me. I'd still like a previous generation styled GTi with an full fledge Oettinger body kit. Thats not a bad looking car at all....me and my wishful thinking  hee hee

PS nuh-der, I would tune it as well :-p

It's nice... could be nicer, but could also be a lot worse.

hmmm..... proberly this is the first time i don't like this car but not because it's german , but , Because the Police in my erea is driving in VW Golf's....

Well..... for e few months back i was still driving at my Honda MT( very fast )
And the Moped's here may not faster then about 50 km/h well. mine drove 120 km/h
SO if i saw any police i must hit the throtlle!!

In dark we trained to see the Golf headlights , so we knew we had to brake because it could be police!!
Now i can tell ya , i can't see a VW Golf anymore , i really get sick of that car hehe they caught me to much :(!!!

The back look very similar to the Polo. The Golf leaves me neutral.I never really liked it.

Ok... My last car was the GTI 25th Anniversary Edition. This redesign is HORRIBLE!!! What VW did to the R32 is pretty sweet... although that is basically just a body kit... but this redesign... :?

Evo_power
Aug 01, 2003, 4:07 AM
It would be cooler to just bash it with a Golf CLUB!! HAHA ZING! Its alright I guess, I dont see why Volkswagen makes like 3 or 4 varitions of basically the same car, GTI, Golf, R32....hmmmmm, I might be mistaken, but they all have somethin very similar about them.

Schumi
Aug 01, 2003, 3:38 PM
I don't like.The only VW that I like(about design)is the New Beetle and the Golf(a little).But this one isn't good.What about the engines?Same?Do you know something?

i would say ... not bad ...
but not good ... its in the middle ... and thats ashame !

Raith83
Aug 01, 2003, 8:48 PM
Ahh, okay, I'm over it. I enjoy it now. It's not the greatest, but its not as bad as I first initially thought.

Arg, I don't see whats so hard to conceive VW's marketing formula for the three diffrent models. I'll leave that out for everyone to figure it out on thier own, sheesh.

Sorry, I have no info as of yet on the engineering changes. I would hope they would be working on the engines and powertain(possibly brand new), but you never know...

i like the styling
i just hope that the trend of GTI's doesnt continue with another even slower one. :?

Aug 02, 2003, 5:59 PM
Perhaps they consider on putting the new engine from the RS3? :P

mallon
Aug 02, 2003, 7:33 PM
that would be a nice idea - but wouldnt be a GTI.
I would say that that would be likely none the less.

It will have a 1.4lt 75 PS or a 16.lt FSI 115 PS, along with the GTi and R32 editions.
(at least here in Greece)

volksspeed16v
Aug 04, 2003, 7:50 AM
the new engines will be a inline 5 with 150 hp. getting rid of the 1.8 20v turbo for a 2.0 16v turbo with 200 hp, a 3.2 vr6, and the r32 will have a 3.2 vr6 turbo. so the new gti will have the 20v replaced with the 16v and a 3.2 vr6 will be available at a later time and 4 motion will be available at a later and new 6 speed options (manual, tiptronic, dsg) i hate the looks it looks like a new honda si but the new engines are great. the dsg will be on the r32 first and the touareg will have a new engine option a tdi v10

jimkk29
Aug 10, 2003, 10:18 AM
Yes, it does indeed. But the 1.6 FSi is a quite good engine.

White-Night
Aug 10, 2003, 10:21 AM
the 1.6 is rather good compared with the 2 liter engine which is simply week compared with other 2 liter eniges ..
i heard they changed it in the new golf.. but im not sure

Yes, you're right, it's weak. Only 116 PS from a 2lt engine. It's a shame... They should use the new 2.0 FSi with 150 PS!

Schumi
Aug 10, 2003, 10:28 AM
What FSi means?Fiat's,Alfa's and Lancia's 2.0 lt engine have 154 hp...If you want more...See Lancia's and Fiat's 2.0lt turbo engines...

FSi (Fuel Stratified Injection) is a direct injection system invented by Audi. I have posted a relevant subject in Technical. It's similar to Alfa's JTS system and Mercedes' CGI (sth like that) system.

Turbo engines are a different category. HONDA has the best non-turbo (NA) engines. 155PS (new Accord), 200PS (Civic Type-r), 240 (!!) PS (S2000).

why would you make that sort of comparision?

White-Night
Aug 11, 2003, 6:18 AM
couse the Golfs 2 liter really sucks man ... i was really disappointed when i drove it !
and since Schumi mentioned the lanica's 2 liter engines Hp ... i compared them and there were at least 30 hp more in the lancias !!!

mallon
Aug 11, 2003, 9:46 AM
the golf 2 litre isnt that bad - but I was refering to the fact that you cant compare it with something from Lancia. They arent tring to saftisfy family car buyers.
Its like comparing a tractor 3 litre with an Evo 3 litre.

White-Night
Aug 11, 2003, 2:17 PM
i dont think so ...
the 2 liter honda engine is great ..
the 2 liter lancia engine is also good ...
and the list goes on.

the golfs 2 liter engine sucks !!!!

man a regular mitsubishi lanser or what ever its called with 1.6 engine have 113 Hp ///
the golf 2 liter engine have 117 !!!!

so i guess it sucks compared to any 2 liter engine !!!

Schumi
Aug 11, 2003, 2:36 PM

Raith83
Aug 15, 2003, 8:42 AM
Well, I was just on VW's offical US wevsite and heres the lowdown on the 2.0L Engine.

115 hp @ 5200 rpm
122 lb ft of torque @-->2600rpm<--look! thats really low torque availability!

Then you get 24 mpg in the city and 31mpg on the highway, what do those other engines get?

It's not a performance oriented engine. I'll say it again, it's NOT for big hp, but rahter for low $$$ initially and further down the road(fuel effiency + low matinence cost). It's for the family minded buyer as others have mentioned. Probably more emphasis on reliability and durability, weight reduction, and space saving than ANYHTING else. So shod off, geez.

jimkk29
Aug 15, 2003, 1:27 PM
I understand that. I was going to say that too. Having suffiecient torque at low revs is important, you don't have to shift gears so often. Also helps fuel economy.

Schumi
Aug 15, 2003, 6:34 PM
Is this a reason to build a low hp engine? :?

If you want a practical car to carry your family around, I don't think you care too much about HP and performance in general...

mallon
Aug 16, 2003, 7:00 AM
Is this a reason to build a low hp engine? :?

no, low HP engines are not more likely to have a have a lower rev. amount of torque than higher BHP, it just varies on the engine setup, capacity, inline 4, V6 e.t.c.

Schumi
Aug 16, 2003, 11:16 AM
No Jim.Many constructors all over the world makes good engines for family cars. You think that this is the reason for VW made this low hp engine?

mallon
Aug 16, 2003, 11:23 AM
the reason for a Lower HPO engine is simply down to money - a lower HP engine costs less to develop, maintain and run. Also it is likely that it emits less CO2 e.t.c. so itll cost less to tax.
Its all down to money at the end of the day...

Schumi
Aug 16, 2003, 11:43 AM
VW sucks in these terms anyway!

mallon
Aug 16, 2003, 1:57 PM
How do you mean?
Their engines are above average in refinement and in power.
So I dont know where you get your above comment from!

Schumi
Aug 16, 2003, 3:03 PM
From their 2.0lt engine! 8)

Raith83
Aug 16, 2003, 8:42 PM
Good lord! Come off it man! It's an econo-engine, why do insist on your pointless VW bashing? Let it go! It's a durable, high fuel economic engine thats very inexpensive to produce, thats the bottom line! Your giving me such a head ache

mallon
Aug 17, 2003, 6:25 AM
exactly! :D
how can you put down an engine on power when being powerful was not one of VW's objectives. You can see form something like a W12, V10 TDI or the R32 3.2L engine, that if VW want to make powerful engines, theyll do it in style.

Schumi
Aug 17, 2003, 9:49 AM
We compared the R32 engine many times!!!I think that this is common 3.2lt engine!!!Well, that's my opinion and I am gonna say it!If you want me to not saying something like these, just tell it and I will not! It's my opinion that VW sucks anyway(About engines, look, exterior and interior). All the parts! Not only their engines!

Why do exactly VWs suck? they are cars for the masses, not exotic supercars as your beloved ferraris, but they are good for most people, i dont think you are more right than the millions of buyers of the marque.

Schumi
Aug 18, 2003, 8:32 AM
No,I am not telling that!I am just wanna say that I don't like VW.That's my opinion. My opinion is that VW sucks.I am not telling that VW are supercars and that I compared VW with Ferrari. No away! But we can compare VW with other marques like Alfa Romeo, Saab, Volvo, Mercedes, BMW, Fiat and many more. Then I think that they become last!!!

Raith83
Aug 18, 2003, 5:15 PM
Yeah, I figured you had some sort of bias against VW, but you needn't BASH(as I stated earlier) their engineering! Fine, you go ahead and hate VolksWagens, but there is no need to just say everything they make stinks, thats quite a lame argument. I'll leave it at that as far as I will concern myself.

Schumi

Last, ok, if you say so, but i'd like to see any Alfa struggling against a W12 Coupe...... damn i'd like to see any current Ferrari fighting it, but only the Enzo could defeat it

You are forgetting Audi and VW are the same, their products are oriented at different markets, but any technology from audi is technnology for VW, with some cost cutoffs

Do you think VW just developed 4Motion?

in israel the GOLF have a real high price compared with other cars..
i just dont worth the price in here...

ya if i dont have too much money to spare i prefer a good Fiat over the VW ...like the coupe...
if i have the WV's price i will never buy that car ... at least most of the basics..

Over here teh Stilo and the Golf are similarly priced - and the golf is just so much better.

Hehe Schumi , i know and i feel your anger agianst VW i have the same, on every detail i can say THAT'S BAD about VW i take my change!

But about a few comparisons the facts are there that for example Fiat , Alfa are BETTER than a VW!! But i ain't say VW is BAD . but your right THEY SUCKS!
That's what i don't like much poeple don't look to the facts but only read the name on the car!!

So i live with ya Schumi

Yes I think that the Stilo is better than Golf.Compare the 1.6lt Stilo and the 1.6lt Golf.Which is better??Golf doesn't wear the 1.6lt engine from Polo or Lupo.Golf's 1.6 engine is different.OK,Polo's 1.6 is a very good 1.6 engine. But Golf's sucks.Even Focus 1.6 is better  .Do you wanna compare it with the 147 1.6??I don't think so.Well that I want to say is that Fiat and Alfa are much better from VW in some terms!Fiat's and Alfa's 2.0lt engine are better than VW's.There are so many terms that Gruppo Fiat is better than VW's.

I hear that they won't put anything cool under the hood for a long while, so I'm still gonna go for the last gen. model with the 1.8T. Unless they'd put a 1.8T in a new body for me. I'd prefer a lighter body.

And I'd preffer to HAVE money to to that as well
