Which one do you like better?
It seems like the 3 and 5 series are the most common and the coolest, what do you think?

Humm, personally I like neither that much. But, it would probably be the 5-series.

Neither !!
I would personally buy an Alfa Romeo 159 or a Saab 9-3 instead of a 3 Series and a Saab 9-5 instead of a 5 Series !!!

ill take a 3 series over a 5 series almost any day cause i like smaller cars, but when it comes to looks, it depends on the generation. the previous gen 5 series(i forget the chassis code, im sure its E##) looks amazing. as for the 3 series, the e36s and e46s look awesome to me.

5 series by a long shot. darn, the models are just excellent, i love the models a lot, especially the darn EM5 or something... just beautiful. i watched the Top Gear road test for this one, it was excellent. very nice car. http://www.bmwworld.com/pics/5er/10160_1024.jpg

The 3 series offers a more desirable wheelbase than the 5. but people seem to forget that the legendary three series falls into the compact class, where as the 5 is a midsize. however both models offer the pinnacle of performance in their appropriate class. the M3 is a personal favorite offering track-ready performance in a compact coupe, not a roadster or purpose built performance vehicle. The new 3 series is ground breaking, the reason 3 and 5 series cars from the 80's still look good is because they foster design concepts ahead of their time.
BMW Vehicles are unprecedented. you can't compare the two because i believe they both lead their classes. but im a die hard M3 fan.

I prefer the 3-series. They are usually lighter, less expensive, and sportier than the 5-series. Also, the two cars don't differ a whole lot in interior space. Unless someone desires the extra prestige, comfort, or marginally larger space, I don't think the 5 is really worth the extra price. Having said that, it is a fantastic car that outranks most of its direct competitors.

I would pick the 5-series over the 3

I hate them both..., because they are F-A-T-A-S-S-E-S!
2 decades ago, a Euro E28 528i weighed 3000 lbs (with A/C). An E30 323i weighed 2500 lbs.

i like the both..u cant reely compare them both cuz they r in diffrent classes...3 series for everyday use is nice cuz it doesnt use as much gas, n looks awsome, n the 5 series offers larger space n a more powerful engine. depends on whether wut u r using it 4

I'd take the C class or the E class. Most perferrably the AMG version.

The r-series looks great. Then again, the new M3 also looks great. [brain surge]

Ouch?

Then again, mercedes don't classify their cars like BMW does. So it is not called a series. It's just called Class/Klasse.

It all depends on what you want from a car. If you mainly drive around alone, you would want a smaller car that's lighter, marginally easier to park and cheaper. The 3 series is the choice
If you have a family or have a lot of friends and would sacrifice a bit of performance for space, the 5 series.
I can't say which one is better. Its a split between Performance and Praticality. (Although both of them score high on both fronts) but comparing prices its either Performace or Praticality because for the price of a 335i you can either get the 335i or a 525i.
Since I dont have a family and I'm far from having one of my own, I dont have many friends who would want to drive around. I would want a car that will get me a family or friends.
My choice is simple and that is a 3 series.

I wouldn't consider them cool, unless the M5 and M3, they are cool. I like the 5-series more, they have a good range of petrol and diesel engines, I don't realy like the looks of the new 3-series.
Altough I wouldn't buy BMW, I would go Audi, A6 Avant

Same, given the choice I'll go Audi.
In Australia, Beemers are considered high-class and a specced up 3-series is pretty cool down here.

the 3 series, smaller, and the 335i coupe is pure sex, M3. another legend reborn!

first, which 5 series and 3 series are you talking about? i mean, the new one is just ugly, the E39 was awsome, the E90 was ugly, the E92 was awsome, the E36 and E46 is awsome...
and secondly, you should put this in the Comparison Section...
but for the 3 series. ill either take the E46 and the E36, they are just siply awsome looking, especially the M3s, i mean, they were all awsome, the normal ones were also awsome, they were fun to drive, just simply stunning to look at and very fun to drive...
but for the 5 series, ill get the E39, first, the M5 was awsome that time, it was simply a 400hp beast...
The r-series looks great.
what are the BMW R-Series?

I like both... I'll take the 3-series though a lot more desireable than any other class of the bimmers

the 3-Series by far... that's one of the only good-looking BMW's i think. a lot of BMW's range has wierd looks about them...

Personally i would look at the Audi RS4.. that cars i amazing .. if u dont like it then think about the Series 5 is nice but the M5 is aggressive
i would go for the m5 if i could afford it

the amount of people that say 'i'd have an Audi' or 'neither' really annoys me. read the title; it means out of the BMW 3-Series or the 5-Series which would you rather! damn...

^ yea, you have to respect the cars in the comparison, just because you are so lazy to write a long post, you will just say ''I wont get the both of them'' or something like ''ill have the Audi'' and something like that...

I'll go with series 3 because it has 2 doors and is more sport than 5series.5 series is likely for whom they have family.

These are mine right now:

If I had it to do over again, I'd have gotten the 5-series instead of my 325i. I bought the 3-series sedan because I wanted to be able to haul friends occasionally, but with someone over 6' tall up front, the people in the back are going to suffer no matter what. Thee are are lot of E60 sedans coming off-lease right now, and I'm seriously considering trading the 325i in for either a 530i with sport package or an X5 3.0i.

I'll take the 5-Series. Looks better I reckon, it's bigger, still has a great range of powerful, smooth and refined engines to offer.
The 3 is smaller, not as good looking and rides a little bit wonkey-donkey with the fun-flats.

Definitely the 5 Series, they look better and the ride is smooth. Also, they are more practical if you need an average family car, which I guess in my/our case we would.
The 3 Series is nice, but it's a bit small, and the 5 probably has a better ride.

I generally perfer the 3 series more to the 5 series. The 5 series are more powerful and they have a nice V10 engine and a great interior but they're uglier, wider and heavier so handling is greatly affected.
Whereas the 3 series is like the little brother, it's more better looking, more compact and leightweight and a model has a nice Twin Turbocharged engine...nice!:D

The V10 engine is from the M5, are we talking about stock? Good info though.
