I know everybody has already heard of the rumors of the 2009 Esprit... does anyone think that this is a bunch of BS or is it going to happen...

screams lambo to me, as well as some other things, regardless though, I like it. Like the old espirit thares not realy any angles, its all smooth subtle lines, aerodynamics are clearly a key point in this cars designs, side scoops are obviously gonna be functional, i wanna see the power plant, lol.
hopefully itll be turbo, using those front scoops for ram air perhaps?
come on lotus, make me happy. I've always loved you cars but there always under powered, show me im wrong

Sorry to give you the bad news... Its not going to be turbocharged. The engine going to be used is a BMW natural aspirated 4.8 liter V8

lotus hardly need a "big break"
well they arent the one of the biggest sports car manafacturers in the world.
i mean to break into the 911 market, and be recognised in america.
all they need is for a few american celebrities to buy them and they will be away,
for a car company and in alot of things, america IS the only way to go big.

well this looks like a ps between the gallaro an the r8 vents.

http://www.lotusespritworld.com/images/NewEsprit/Car_May06/Car_May06_03.jpg << Looks like its been used off a Murcielago's vents.
http://www.egmcartech.com/wp-content/uploads/2006/10/lotus_esprit_artist.jpg<< the door design looks like its been used off an R8 and the headlights look ridiculously similar to a Gallardo's if you remove the eyelids.
And I'm not happy with this model. usually lotus comes out with small, compact, lightweight models. what happened? i think this one wont be fast at all, it looks really heavy.

The top one is from the August 2006 issue of "Automobile" magazine. That one isn't a ps, it's a drawing.
As for the bottom one, you can even see the Gallardo headlight shape, but with a bit added to it.
I think this is going to come out some time, but without the Espirit name. I have a hunch, somehow.

Hmm, i think it looks really good. The front looks really aggressive. But it just look like something stolen from Lamborghini and Audi. The rear looks like it's from a Murcielago, the headlights look like it's from a Gallardo and the side vents look like it was stolen off an R8.
Anyways, i think it's really good but they stole many features form other cars. Lets just wait for the official stuff to come..

Yes, the back is very similar to Lambos (Murcielago)
Robbie
Apr 22, 2007, 7:34 AM
it is simply ugly on the rear...i mean, the previous ones were awsome, now its got a BMW engine that breaks down everytime you start it for 1 minute and looking at the rear of the car is actually the same as looking into an "ugliefied" lambo
i love the front of that thing, the rear is just ugly

nop it isn't, and theres no V10 either, can tell you that much, well, at least Subarukid can. So my guess, and probaly right is a V6 twin turbo. The BMW V8 was just a rumour. I even have that little article
here \/\/

As much as it should look like that, spy shots say otherwise
http://blogs.edmunds.com/.ee92442/cmd.233/enclosure..ee92443
though this is said to be just a shell, even lotus know that this design will not compete in todays market.
So far lotus have kept sercet about the new esprit, really well to. They've used shells to protect the new look, and probaly made up fake stories about engines. What the esprit will do and look like right now is anyones guess
Robbie
Apr 22, 2007, 8:03 AM
the rear of the "new esprit" looks very similar to the gallardo...it does, and it looks much better in those spy shots(mainly because its the previous one) and in that magazine you scanned or whatever it is....

too many comparisons to lamborghani.
it looks better than any lambo, so end of
moving on i really hope they dont use a beamer engine. if they do, screw that, it wont be half as good as I want it to be
I wonder if lotus knows that chevy sells ls7 crate engines?
can you imagine the z06's power plant in that car? vroom vroom anyone? haha, that would be beastly.

^^ Spot on idea. But I'd say those renderings look fairly accurate. Especially the vents, they math up to the spy shots that were posted a while a go, plus the overall shape looks really accurate. I was hoping it would have a bit of a sharper face though, similar to the exige/elise. That would be realllll nice.
Venom 1000

Honestly, it looks like a wannabe lambo. I hope it ends up looking like the car in the spy shot. I think that looks much better.

i agree... from the front, just look at it! man it's sexy as hell!
i'm dribbling... just imagine if that engine was supercharged by Lotus, too...!

^^^ haha, it would quite literally beat everything in a straightline at least, so long as it had a good transmission behind it.
stock that engine pushes 505 hp, with a blower, depending on type, size and wether or not its intercooled, could push out as much as 950, but of coarse they would tone it down abit, at most maybe 700
but really I dont see lotus going that far out. I wish they could, but theyve always been conservative on their power plants, which is lame. wish they would be a bit more outgoing, theyd make some truly amazing cars then

4 second 0-60?
screw that, I want better than the corvette damn it. I'm tired of seeing only two cars do better than the vette to 60, the enzo and the damned veyron. I'm sure there's some others but they dont et talked about much and cost as much
this espirit has the potential to be a serious competitor to the vette, in both production numbers, price and perfromance. at least give me a high 3 0-60
300 kmh? uh, i think thats roughly 240 mph? not good enough. i need 15 more mph
if lotus beat the veyron's top speed record, at a 17th of the price, they would be my hero

i can safely tell you 300 km/h = 186mph. Though 240mph would be amazing.
Not bad, but i can tell you that to do that you need around 450bhp, and knowing lotus, the weight will be as low as possible, giving it near the exact same figures as a noble M15, which is more than a match for the Z06. Don't forget that the lotus chasis is considered to be the best of the best. Also the price will mostly likely be low to, making the new esprit amazing to but it simply.

damn it. i did something in my head wrong with that math lol. oh, haha, i times 60 by 4, rather than 3, so came with 240 rather than 180 (using the basic 60 mph = 100 kmh approxiamatly)

Buff has a point the Lotus Exige S does 0-60 in about 4.1-4.5 secs. This new Esprit could be a tad bit quicker...
sonicadg
Apr 22, 2007, 7:01 PM
^^why, after 60 it will blast the to 100mph in probaly around 8secs. near 2 secs faster than the Exige S. I consider that faster now.

Now that looks like a far more realistic back-end. Combine that with the front in the first post and I think it is a more realistic look for the car. The only hard thing with new lotus cars is you never know how they are going to look, I mean, the Elan, Elise, Europa, and Esprit all look completely different.
I think the V8 might be a good idea, maybe a turbo would sound better, but if it is using the next-gen M3's engine, I think it should be good to go.
On another note, I think I read that it is going to be significantly heavier than the previous model. Somewhere around 3400 lbs I'd guess.
I think it won't be quite as fast as the Lotus Exige S, but it should be fairly close.
Oh, and just to throw it out there, I found another "concept" render:

Nothing's been confirmed about engines yet. (Not that I know of.) The renderings and the drawings look pretty poor I guess, I don't really want it to look like that, I'm thinking more of a futuristic look, with curves, and lines, and a great overall body shape. A V10 engine would be fantastic there. I don't think power will go over say, 500bhp because Lotus are renowed to keep their weight down, and more power would mean accomodating a larger engine or having forced induction or something like that. Then again, I could be speaking bollocks, so in that case don't listen to me. ;)

For you guys who think it needs 240 million mph - 170 is fine. Its always been a sports car - not a supercar. I will like it less if they make it reach 200 mph + speeds. That'll morph the name into something it isn't.

187.5, to be exact. so let's say 188 lol.

Yeah I agree on that one. But, to be honest, I don't thing Lotus needs this car. In a way I feel that Lotus have moved on from the Esprit, and they don't need to go back. I've never liked the way they look anyway
I think Lotus should keep making cars like this
http://www.linternaute.com/auto/diaporama/les-plus-beaux-cabriolets/images/1-elise-lotus.jpg
and leave this one out of their line-up. {That's if it's even true!}

I don't know where this topic came from, I only just seen it, but the Audi R8 was very similar is styling to the Esprit Concept model a little while back, and yes, Audi/Lambo, whats the difference, both owned by Porsche.
The Esprit is coming and it will be pitched somwhere around the 911/R8 market as usual. It will be an exciting car for sure, given that a 2003 Esprit could out-handle ANY road going Ferrari at the time, just lost out on speed, but not hugely.
As for the 0-60 4 secs and only 2 cars being quicker. the Lotus Exige 240R & 240Cup do 0-60 in 3.9 seconds, and the new Circuit Car and Exige GT3 are rumoured to be around 3.7 seconds, is that better for you?

Apr 27, 2007, 3:30 PM
^^i thought the esprit was going to have 450bhp, and weight less than a 911 turbo, meaning that it would rival the upcoming GTR, 911 turbo and F430
