Okay, having read through the 'how to improve SCF through better threads' thread, i've come up with this in an effort to encourage better quality posts from the car loving SCF community. So, if you've come here and expect to post one word answers, then can you try and think of something positive and constructive to the thread to say instead. Thanks...

So, now the thread itself... Aston Martin.

Now, i'm gonna be very honest and say that I adore Aston Martin. I love their history, their image and their current model line up. I'm posting this because I wish to share my views with everybody else on the forum. To me, Aston Martin is far more exotic than Porsche and Mercedes-Benz, on par with Ferrari and Lamborghini. The looks are awesome, they make the most beautiful cars. In a modern world, where we have conflicting angles and bits that are 'design cues' ala BMW style, to see a truely beautiful shape like that of the DB9 is brilliant.

The interior's are a model of luxury and taste. Wonderfully tactile leather and swade fabrics, inch perfect panel gaps and the smell of newly built and machined metal and carbon fibre.

So, you're sat there, looking at the aluminium dials and push the big glass starter button as the engine wakes from its slumber. The sound of all twelve or eight cylinder catching and then barking into life! Ohhh...

The way they're made, the way they look and sound, its just amazing. So, i'm not comparing anything, just sharing my thoughts about Aston Martin really. Wondering what you guys all think, if you agree or disagree? Whether you think another company has the same sort of status, or is even better? Just a general passion sharing thread really.

Mod's can delete this if they feel its crap...

I've always kind of liked aston martins. there cool. never been a big fan, they are a tad on the expensive size, but they are nice cars. with out comparing it to anything else I'll just leave it there

Fair enough, but would you say they are any more expensive than a Porsche 911? More car for the money when you compare it to something like that? A DB9 vs. Ferrari F599? Value for money? I think if you are spending £80K plus, then you wouldn't worry too much about value for money, but thats just my opinion...

I wonder if Aston Martin will make a GT3 style Vantage V8? Perhaps now they are owned by Prodrive we will see lighter and more hardcore versions? Like the DBS, but... better!

70 grand is my bench mark. after that nothing seems worth it.

at least untill 2009

Why what happens after 2009?

If i loved the car that much, then I would spend over £70K on it. For example, i said to myself I would spend no more than £10K on my new car, i spent £12K... cos I liked it so much. But thats just me... Lol

yes, but the car I love is 70 grand. I need spend no more money than that

as for 2009, thats when a better model comes out, that will most definatly cost more than 70k. probably more like 100k. I'd still prefer it to any other car on earth for its price and perfromance

The DB9 will certainly age better than its predesessor the DB7, and it makes the Vanquish look completly unnessary.
Along with AlfaRomeo and BMW, I think they are modern day pioneers of car design, excluding the boundaries of function, while adding a unique sparkle others dont have and others try to copy (i.e Jag XK,''which i think looks rubbish'' )

I can't say I'm a big fan. They do look good but not amazing. I don't see them as a drivers car, more of a GT Cruiser. Sure the interior looks nice but not amazing, if it were my money it would be going to Porsche or Chevy.

I think Aston's are overpriced, but, so are most other cars. They've built up their reputation and heritage etc, so why not, good for them! I've heard they can be pretty unrealiable though, so form that side of things, the safer option is probably buying a Porsche.

As for their status in camparison to other cars, I've always seen AM as being in Limbo. They definitely can't, imo, be compared too any other car, except, maybe Bentley. They don't fit in the same category as Lambos or Porsches, they are too individual. If you buy an Aston, you buy it for looks and status, {well some people do} and not, imo, for the performance!

I love 'em. I don't like any classic Euro cars, but the Modern Astons are probably some of the best out there. The Vaquish and DB9 are sports cars that caould make God cry tears of joy. The Vantage is over priced, but it's still agreat car. James Bond was a very, very smart man. I think selling Aston and keeping Jaguar was the dumbest thing Ford has done since Lincoln got into trucks.

ahh, Aston Martin. i love them more than words can be said... there's not one car Aston Martin have made that i don't like, they're all just SO beautiful. and the way they all sound... arghhh it makes me want to cry! whether it's the Vantage's V8 bellow or the DB9's V12 rasp, i don't care; they all sound amazing. the DB9 is my current favourite car, which i'm thinking will be overtaken by the DBS when it comes out this Christmas time. hell, when the new Aston supercar (codenamed the DBX, with a 700bhp 6.0-litre V12), that may overtake the DBS still. i just love Aston's so much. the way they look, sound, feel... i love it all.

one day i aspire to own an Aston of some sort. maybe an old DB9 when i'm in my late 20's early 30's... that'd be a dream come true for me. man, i love them so much. i hope Prodrive really do keep them well, fund them with what they need and look after them properly... if anything bad happened to Aston i'd be distraught. keep making lovely cars, Aston, i'll buy one of you one day :).

Aston Martin are a bit of a mixed bag as far as I am concerned. They seem to have a similar problem to Porsche in that they only produce one type of car and alter it by putting different engines into it.

Having said that I really like the DB9. They are also very good at allowing you to re-model cars and improve them. They have a sense of history. The line up is far from perfect however but they do seem to learn and be capable of making changes and improvements to their line-up.

As far as how David Richards (I always want to call him Dave Richards for some reason, and nearly did hear) will handle the company, only time will tell, but I don't see any reason to be negative. I would like to see more driver focused cars while also keeping the emphasis on comfort and luxury. There is also a massive opportunity to allow customers to differentiate their cars. Flexibility is the key in my view.

I've always had a soft spot for Aston Martins. Its the main reason why Bond gets the girls all the time. Because he drives an Aston Martin.

Apparently the majority AstonMartin owners are'nt a happy bunch,
lots of realiability problems with the DB9, a rubbish paddle gearbox in the vanquish and interior trim form a volvo in the AMV8.
The Vanquish did recive a much needed interior facelift though.

the AMV8 uses the same interior trim as the DB9, and if anything, it's from Ford, not Volvo. reliability problems? lol...

Aston Martin, I really do like. One of my favourite manufacturers, in fact. Hell, they're not manufacturers, they're a way of life.

DB9, definitely the best looking car on the road right now, in my opinion, especially in navy blue. Their presence, their sleekness, their beauty, is second to none, it's incredible. Hearing them growl past is fantastic aswell, and hearing them floor it is definitely a milestone in your life.

The V8 Vantage, a proper cruiser, equally beautiful to the DB9, sound brilliant aswell, not heard one under full acceleration just yet, but hope to in the near future. Black is the colour to go for.

The Vanquish is brilliant aswell, again a brilliant engine sounds (rattled the windows of the bus as it past the bus I was on!) and brilliant looks aswell, one of the best cars ever I reckon.

Their DBS and DBX are going to be brilliant, you just know, and will answer all the critics, because they'll probably create a driver's car, for definite. Go Aston Martin.

As you've already guessed, I'm obsessed with all things Aston. They are no where near as show offy as Ferraris or Lamborghinis, but offer personal pleasure and subtle, attractive styling.

They may cost more than other cars - but the DB9 and Vanquish S are luxury hand made GTs - comparable to the likes of the Conti GT. The V8 Vantage, however, is a true 911 rival and although it has a rather bulky premium over the 911, I'd choose it over the 911 any day. After all, its more unique - not just another 911 flooding the streets.

I also love the way they are hand built in Britain - something which can't be said for many manufacturers who use automatic machines to do the work for them. This adds prestige, too.

I strongly believe the recent takeover by the Prodrive boss was a huge turn for the good. Aston Martin survived under Ford rule for three decades or so, and by all means they made some great cars, but I think under British rule once more will allow them to reach their full potential.

And no plans have changed on the matter of the Rapide - its still going into production even though the recent takeover occured.

not an aston fan.
I prefer the XK series. I was in an aston, DB9, DB9 volante, V8 vantage and Vanquish s. Didn't like them much, the interior was pk, i only really like the engine start button. Plus i don't like how the have those back seats.

The're still stunnig, but to drive i'd take the lighter, easier to drive XKR and R8
