Hello all,
First time poster...I have an 05 Jag S-Type R and am looking to do some performance mods. I just got a new performance intake kit, and my next project will be a new exhaust system and upgraded supercharger pulley...I eventually want to top it off with an ECU. I've been looking around and Arden seems to be the top of the line tuner for Jags...however, they seem real pricey -- on their website (www.arden.de (http://www.arden.de)) the ECU is about US$5500. Way too much IMO for 35 extra hp. Do any of you know any other reputable tuners out there where I could look for chips?
Also, a wheels question...I'm looking for a set of Asanti wheels. Any recommended online vendors?
Thanks a lot for your help...this site seems like it has a lot of great info.

OK first...don't multipost....use the edit button located to the right of your post. :)
If the ECU is too much than try and find a programer, most times you can get a programmer for like something like 400-600 USD and they should be good to 10-40HP (I don't know the specifics)

Welcome to the forum.
Everyone here knows that I'm not the biggest Jaguar fan around but they are nice after a few simple mods. As for Arden... if you're going to start messing around with the electronics on a Jag, stick with Arden. Jaguar electronics are excellent stock but they get pretty finicky when you start modifying them so be careful. And remember, if you're gonna try to do a lot of mods, the ECU is the place to start. A 35 horsepower gain is actually quite a bit. Remember, your power gain is not relative to how much it costs... the cost is relative to how reliable the power gain is.

Thanks for the replies guys...
I'm new to the Jag scene as well (had always been a MB guy). I never really thought about them too much, but this one caught my eye because it looks unique. Then I drove it and it blew me away. So I'm pretty psyced about it.
Anyway, back to the mods -- the price for that ECU just really shocked me because I could have similar gains if I went with a package of exhaust, intake, pulley upgrades...and for about 1/3 of the cost. I just imagined the chip being in the neighborhood of about 1500-2000, not 5500, so was just wondering everyone else's thoughts (again since I'm a noob).
Thanks for the replies to my questions so far though. This is a great forum...other forums I have visited barely have any traffic and I get maybe 1 or 2 replies over the course of a week.

That's usually good advice but not in this case. This is a Jaguar and their electronics aren't as easy to repro as a Toyota...

I love MGs... I've got a Midget and a TC (neither one have engines though) sitting in my dad's yard. I want an MGB GT but it's hard to find one in good shape.
If you're gonna get into Jags you picked the right one. Have fun with it... If it ever gets stuck in park and won't release the gearshift let me know. I know how to fix it without taking it to the dealership.

it uses Jaguar's 4.2-litre S/C V8 to produce 400bhp and 540Nm. it's pretty powerful. it's an M5 rival. and while it may not have the power (down by 100bhp), it's got the torque (30Nm) and the price advantage (£19k).

Hi welcome to SCF my friend, you have come to the right place, have fun and enjoy your stay.:)
As for your car, Nice Jaguar you have there. If you looking for a CPU chip then i'm not sure where you can buy them, same for the rims. But you can always look on the internet or Google if you already haven't or go to your local tuning garage.

Hi all,
I mentioned before I was looking at wheels for the 05 S-type R and need some advice/opinions from anyone with with this car who has 19" wheels.
Some vendors have given me quotes for the following package:
[staggered] 19x8.5 wheel with 235/35/19 tires in front and 19x9.5 wheel with 275/30/19 tires in rear
Another vendor suggested that the rear tire will rub if I have people in the back seat and would need to do some mods (fender roll I'm assuming) to make it work. he suggested 19x8.5 wheels with 245/35/19 wheels all around (no stagger)
I would rather have the fatter tires in the rear, but I will be extremely pissed off if I get them (after vendors saying they will fit) and they end up rubbing.
Do any of you have 19" wheels? What sizes do you have, and what do you suggest I do??
Thanks in advance!
