"When Mercedes decided it was time to give the SLR supercar a boost, it created the SLR 722 edition. But don’t for a second think that number has anything to do with the car’s output. In fact, the supercharged 5.5L V8 engine puts out 650hp, a significantly lower figure than its 722 labeling suggests. The odd title comes from the 1955 Mille Miglia, where Stirling Moss and Denis Jenkinson beat out favorites from Porsche and Ferrari to take victory in a Mercedes-Benz 300SLR. The car was wearing the number “722,” which indicated the 7.22am starting time of the race.
At least for the original, the number 722 had some significance, but as RENNtech’s Hartmut Feyhl puts it, “for most people, six-fifty is probably enough but you see that ‘722’ on the car and you start to want seven-hundred and twenty-two horsepower.” Feyhl is a former AMG staffer with over 12 years experience at the famous Mercedes tuner and has since started his own tuning shop, RENNtech performance.
For the extra power, engineers upgraded the stock intercoolers and replaced the intercooler pump with a RENNtech-specific unit that has close to double the capacity of the standard version. Intake temperatures are now 10 degrees Celsius cooler, which meant that boost pressure could be increased and thus the 722hp mark could be achieved. Pity the original propeller-style wheels were swapped with these much more ordinary 20 inchers."

Wow, i think it's pretty cool they gave it 722hp, now it matches the name more!:D Anyways the car would have been better if it has the original 722 rims, the rims on it right now looks plain and boring and doesn't suit the car well in my opinion, but i guess that will be made up with the amount of power it has!

Thats not a SLR 722. The 722 has smoked headlights. Meh it probably still is a 722. Looks pretty badass. Love the rims and the power increase is class.

im not sure if this is a 722, because as jamesy said, the 722 has smoked headlights, and also, the 722 has the 722 badge on the place on the "gills" where now its got the Mclaren badge...
and oh wow, 722 horsepower in that thing, gosh this is going to be good, love it, im not a fan of those rims but they look okay, nice endgine mods, sounds pretty good...

That's cos the 722 has absolutely nothing to do with the power, the nuggets. But I suppose it's a good hook all the same. Still hate the SLR though.

At the last part of the article, it does say that they gave it a power boost by replacing the stock intercooler and intercooler pump so that a higher boost pressure can be allowed and make 722 HP possible.

Missed my point. The 722 in the name, doesn't mean 722 hp, and it never has. However they are insinuating this fact, and I am merely pointing out that 722 doesn't mean horsepower.

supposedly even the most experienced drivers would not be able to handle the SLR without all those little computers and that manumatic gearbox, says Mercedes. meh.. who knows though :-k
I dont think this article is saying that they modified a 722 edition SLR to 722 hp... if they did say that, then thats not a 722 edition in that pic for sure. i dont know though, i havent read this article too thoroughly.

Rappers and Renntech start with the same letter, coincedence? I think not...
Overall it's...An SLR with more power, can't complain though, since the SLR should be something more along the lines of a Bugatti Veyron, i.e., heavy, powerful, comfy, fast. The wheels though, that's just awful, one of the coolest things about the SLR were the rims. Now that's gone.

great car as it is, but really i dont see any difference from the normal SLR 722... Except its a white paint job. Well, anyways its alright, but overall looking at the body and the design i cant see much of a difference.

A much better looking SLR. The 722 just looked weird with those rims and the ungainly grey paint. But these rims and the silver paint make the car look great. I'm glad a 722 now actually has 722 horsepower. Merc robbed us with giving the 722 ''only'' 650hp. Good car.

As much as i like the idea of the FAN wheels..
am i the only person that's realized that on one side of the car (driver) it draws air OUT from under the car and blows outwards while on the passender side it draws air ONTO the caliper/rotor UNDER the car..in other words at high speeds the car is being pushed to the left

...Which is why they added 5 spoke wheels as an option? (or is that the 722 I'm thinking of).
Plus I think that McLaren engineers (F1 people so they know their stuff) took that into account. I don't think your theory would be accurate as from what I've seen on TV no one complained about that on the SLR, even when going flat out.
Anyways, I'm pretty sure the car they're showing isn't a 722, dont know about smoked headlights or anything but theres no front splitter or 722 badging, its a normal SLR with 720 horsepower. Which is still nothing to scoff at, an amazing car just became even better! Must be even more difficult to control though, I hear it needs loads of room and hard work to make it turn successfully (i.e. without spinning out )with all driving aids turned off...
