Remember the 205 GTi, the 309 GTi and (who can forget), the T16. These were some of the best hot hatches of all time. I myself dream of the latter. But now it seems that with the 3.7 GTi and the 207 GT, that Peugeot have lost it in the way of performance. They havn't really made a true hot hatch or anything that does justice to the three that I mentioned. The last was the 206 GTi 180, but that isa bit too mild.
Renault now have the RenaultSport Clio and there was the V6. In the time of the T16 and GTis, they of course had the Renault5 Maxi Turbo. Citroen have come close too with the VTS and VTR range, but Peugeot are trailing behind. There have been rumors that they will return to the fray with a 207 GTi, but until that comes, we can't really say anything.
Any thoughts?

Yeap. Peugeots used to make great hatches.....used to. I'm just hoping that they will come back with a really nice hatch soon enough...

Er, no it's not. A 205 T16 Evo II Pretty much flew off the side of a cliff, crashed into a tree, and killed the drivers. It was cancelled pretty much the next day. A lot of spectators had been killed too. Group A cars are as fast as Group B nowadays anyway, just not as exciting.

^ I loved the RS200 and Group B.
Anyway, the Peugeots are too lumpy and too heavy. They just look bulbous, not really nimble, not really crisp and not up to the job. The 207 Cup is properly hot though. Just make something with lots of power, good styling and good driver envolvement and people will buy it and Peugeot will be put on the map with road cars again.

the 106, 206 and 306 gti were brilliant cars, even the quick silvers and 306 xs 2.0 are great cars, i dont like any of their new cars at all, also as far as citroen go, the saxo vtr, vts and even furio are great cars but my mate traded a saxo furio in for the vtr c2 aznd its horrible to drive and is too sloppy looking, steering is not as responsive as the saxo and the suspension is "floppy"

it's not rumour, it's fact. it's going to use the same 1.6-litre turbo as used in the new MINI Cooper S.
a few definate specs:
max power: 175bhp (131kW)
max torque (w/o overboost function): 244Nm (178lb/ft)
max torque (with overboost function): 264Nm (192lhb/ft)
0-60mph: around 7 seconds
top speed: 140mph
transmission: 5-speed manual (sadly; Peugeot says the GTi 'doesn't need' a 6-speed. yeah right, tight b*stards)

the 207 GTi will be out this yearalso, rumours have it that a 210bhp 1.6-litre turbo 207 RC (or the 207 SR, i forgot what i read it would be called, but what i am sure of is that Peugeot are considering bringing a 200bhp+ model out, though) is going to come out in the near future. that should be a flyer... and that engine will be shared with the MINI Cooper S Works.

Its a shame about Peugeot atm. I remember the 205 GTI and the 306 GTI-6, they were wonderful cars, quite ahrdcore by todays standards, but had wonderful chassis. I once drove a 205 GTI and remember it being quite snappy and sharp, i was quite shocked by how responsive it was. I've also driven a standard 206 1.4i and hated it. It was all soft and felt like a sponge. I know its a different sort of car compared to the GTI, but it didn't spark me to try a hotter version. I'm proud of Renault for doing what they're doing with their hot versions, and Peugeot should really step upto the plate.
Look forward to the rumoured 200bhp 207, but if its like the old GTI-180 then i'm not optimistic. I dont think the current 207 has a good enough chassis. I've never driven one, but from what i've read its nothing spectactular.
The Fiesta has a wonderful chassis, same as the Mini, Honda Jazz, Toyota Yaris and current Clio and new Corsa, but that 207 seems to be missing something according to the reviews. Its smooth, soft and quiet, not the ingrediants for a GTI.
In my opinion... Lol

nah... this is going to be like the RS of Ford or the Cupra of SEAT. it's going to be the ultimate hot 207, not just warm like the GTi 180 was.

me? i never... sometimes for some reason certain letters/words get written in red. it's a glitch on SCF, i think. it used to do it for me, hasn't for a while though...
