thats probably because its the most random thing i've ever heard, but never the less would be interesting to know, id guess some supercar, then you get the new mercedes cls class(i think its cls anyway) which has 2gears for reverse

the 1998 Diablo GT2 Road car can reverse at 60mph or more, I cant remember it exactly now, i only remember it because i was researching the car a while back.

I'm surprised they give specs for that

I cant find it anymore, but it stated the reverse gear speed at about 62mph, thats why I said 60mph earlier as an approximate :P It was on a website with the specs of the car...
Also it was not the road car  merely the prototype for a GT2, that only about 3 cars exist, something like 1 1998 model and 2 2002 models...

anyway, so far its the only one here with a max speed listed :P :D

I'm pretty sure an F1 can go about 60 also...in reverse...and a porsche dropped out a plane correctly, will face backwards as it falls...at about 140 mph... :D

maybe when cars get fast enough in reverse they will start giving 0-60 in reverse in specs

That would be interesting

but thats lethal, one tiny nudge of the front wheels and you'd spin
but its also very cool, going 16mph faster backwards than the national speed limit :P

I would be very scared to turn the steering wheel

That's fast. But it would be cool, going backwards on the highway

Just hope there is nothing in front of you to make you turn :P

sorry for going a slightly OT
why does the car sounds different when you use the revers?

iplaygod
Aug 02, 2004, 7:27 AM
because its a different gear i guess, 1st gear sounds different from 5th gear doesn't it

It doesn't really have a purpose, it's apparently just a side-effect of having 7 gears apparently according to MB.

The reverse speed has one more wheel-with-teeth (I don't know how this thing is called) in order to reverse the spin coming from the engine. Reverse also has no synchroniser, so those two things probably create the different and louder noise.
