yeah but the mini is also limited at that, and the most i have been able to get out of it was 140, drafting a golf Gti.... so my point still stands.

Eh what mini is that ? I don't think the official top speed of even the old cooper s works GP was much over 140 never mind 155

^Maybe it could be measured by how much sh1t came out...

Has anyone done at least 90MPH in a 4-cyl Toyota Tacoma/HiLux compact pickup? It's freakin' loud and not very secure. Has anyone had any similar experiences?.....

^ I have an 81 toyota 4X4 with the 22r 4cylinder sitting on 33" MTR's. It's currently torn apart in the garage, but before I decided to do that, I drove it around for a bit. It never saw speeds above 65, but that was loud enough with the big meaty tires.

No no, It is limited electronically at 155 but is not able to get there. I was just pointing out that just because its electronically limited at 155 that does not mean that it can go to 155.

Ah I see what you are saying now. So do you think Mazda's official top speed would be out by the same percentage as the indicated speed is ? What I mean is do you think it would even do an indicated 155 mph ?

Jan 06, 2008, 3:02 PM
^^^ yeah I am saying that its speedo is off, and I do not know if it will do even the 155 on the speedo. Ive pushed my brothers seed 3 hard, and I know he has as well, and neither one of us have managed the 155 or close to it on the car.

250kph en route to Dijon 2 days ago. French highways are fantastic, they're long, fairly straight, and everybody keeps right when not overtaking. It's about the only thing they're any good at when behind the wheel.

@Attaus: I know, its the same in Australia and England. It was about 5 minutes out of the channel tunnel that we realised france is a far, far better country than the UK - the weather, the babes (there is nothing sexier than a cute chick moaning in french), the food, everything. Except the french. I hate the french. They're filthy, rude, arrogant, can't drive for crap and have equally bad taste in cars.

And the funniest thing is, as bad as I thought france was, Switzerland has thus far been worse. I mean the people, that is. The weather's not great (too cold!) but the cars are better. We got to Verbiere today, and I swear there was 5 porsches parked in a row - a 996 4S, two Cayennes, and two Cayenne turbos.

Oh my goodness.. don't get me started on French women. Probably the hottest natural women I've ever seen (by natural I mean boobs not arm pits rofl) was our waitress on the coast. Perfect body.. no tan lines.. amazing. Even our maid at the hotel was a 5'6" 110lb beauty.

There have been a few really stunning ones around, though I have to admit, I met a gorgeous london girl in the ski bar earlier today who poops on all the frenchies I've seen.

But still, french accent > all.

Unless spoken by a bloke. The only men who can sound heterosexual speaking french are the southerners deep and growly southerners.

Sweet, what were you driving ?

Civic Type R - the crazy new european one, black, with gunmetal rims and a GB sticker on the butt. It's the last kind of car anyone who knows me would expect me to rave on about, but I'm enjoying this car so much I want more to be out playing in it than I do snowboarding.

There's six of us, so we need two cars. Mum, dad, brother and nan are in an 07 2L diesel mondeo (HEAPS more poke than I'd expected) but me and the sis are fanging around in my uncle's toy for a couple of weeks. He's just got it, but he's been sent to the US for a month on work, so he let me drive the beast for the next couple of weeks. It beats the hell out of the Polo we'd originally rented.

The other day we went to Omaha beach, and we stayed behind in Normandy while the rest went on to dijon (6 hour drive) so we had to boot it to catch up. I found out the other week that not only do we have rellies in America (known that for ages) but one of my third cousins was there on d-day, and we got to see his grave and 9,600 others. I have never felt so humble and awestruck in my life. It's not just the kind of place Americans should pilgramage to, its a must for anyone who values freedom and valour.

EDIT:

*smacks head*

I was expecting someone to say "250 mph! That's crazy!" but of course I typoed the joke. I guess since the R maxes out at 230k's its still a mockery of the tools who frequent the site, but not outrageous enough for humour :(

Rav fails at internets.

For the record, the real speed was 190 down a 30 degree incline. The best part about those highways are the occasional massive, steep and very long declines that have no speed cameras whatsoever.

You should try driving in the states.. it's a nightmare. Nobody understands the term "passing lane".No kidding. Here in Kansas, on the two lane highways (most of our highways are two lane), every few miles it widens to add a second lane each way. The is a passing lane. You have to stay in the right lane unless you are passing someone. The highway patrol here are BIG on that one. They love writing tickets for that... lol

Yeah, F-ing morons live here in texas sometimes. I drive between houston and dallas a lot and i'll tell you, there are so many retard that just chill in the left lane. Whats even more annoying is when they ARE going the speed limit it, when most the traffic is going 5 or 10 over. Jerks. I was riding with a friend once, he was driving. He was driving in the left lane going about 10 over, and i told him, "Dude, you should chill in the right lane when your not passing people" he didnt listen and a few miles down the road he got a speeding ticket. The cop came to the window and said the norm, and then after he wrote the ticket he said "also, you need to drive in the right lane unless your passing". So i bet he wouldn't of even gotten a ticket if he'd listened to me.

Haha nice. I'm sure that gets old if you're going somewhere in a hurry. It's like that out near Tech but I've only made one trip out there. Around where I live sometimes people just don't feel like going the speed limit and will do 45 in a 55 in packs.. with no cops around.

Lol maybe.. I loooove driving in Texas at night though. It's like nobody stays out at night.. you get all of these straight, flat roads (or in the hill country curvy and fun) with little to no traffic on them. It makes you want to flip on the nitrous and lose the diamond plate flooring.

How is this possible? Wow.
Because the speedo is on the front wheels, so whenever the wheels break traction, you don't get a true speed reading on the speedo. Happened on my mates Holden Barina, he was driving over a bridge when it was raining and there was loads of puddles, he got up to 180kph in 5th gear because the wheels were spinning in the wet.

It's your arrogant , immature type that SCF can do without.

And it's idiots like you that ALWAYS say "oh I have a video but I don't know how to upload it/where it went/how to use teh internetz/what youtube is"

ok people.. we arent in elementary school. talking down on and negatively about others gets us nowhere... Seriously think about it. Wheres it gonna get you? Lets all man up, woman up, grow up and stay on topic. Or forget it all happened. Like when the principle gives you a long ass lecture before you get suspended and you arent even focusing what hes saying... your just dead and thinking of other things... (what am i gonna eat... why am i here... (WHAT THE F*%# IS THIS OLD PERSON TALKING ABOUT)

I was with someone and they hit 112mph in their civic... I was like 13 at the time didnt like civics but we were going fast. I sorta dont believe we were going that fast now but when he said it he sure as hell was accelerating for A LONG ASS TIME... almost a mile

I did 145kmh on the speedo in France in my friends Micra when going to London. Though the speedometer is a bit optimistic when it gets to speeds over 100kmh.
In reality, I did 130kmh. :p

105 mph in a 1.4 hdi peugeot 206 - 70hp :) It was actually within limist of the city. The highway ends and then a bridge (city) begins. It's more than a kilometer long (don't know exactly) and I was doing 70 when I entered it :). There was only one car far ahead and the road was lightend. On the next day the owner saw some cops with a radar at the end of the bridge.

new record, around 75mph, according to my brother. I just glance at the speedometer once in a while. it was in the right lane of the highway, my dad was sitting next to me, it was the first time i drove on the highway with my dad lol, he was cool about it. oh yeah, Accord.

meh, a smile was slowly cracking on my face as the speed increased. my dad said "what, you think this's a video game?" lol.

I think 75-85 mph is the perfect highway speed.... if people would just actually drive instead of talking on the phone, and drinking coffee, etc.... if might actually be possible.

yeah, i hate multi-tasking when driving.

btw, if you go to the Honda website, click on Accord, then you'll see a video playing and hear audio "You are more than a driver, that's why we blah blah blah" NO STFU Honda (i can't believe i said that), and all the rest of the companies who make cars here in America, we are NOT more than drivers when driving. Who agrees?

Cooper "s"
Jan 18, 2008, 5:46 PM
Yeah, fully agreed, Thing is so many people drive and every day, that its easy to forget that even at 50mph you can crash and die... to make matters worse you get on a freeway doing 65-70mph, and all the cars are doing the same that you loose sense of speed, so people relax to much.

I agree. That's why I like cars that have the barest of interiors. A car needs 3 things and 3 things only:

Engine gauges;

climate controls;

a stereo...

That's it. No GPS (learn to read a map)... no tv screens... no fancy knobs and switches... no power seats, power windows, power doorlocks (how friggin lazy can you get?)... just a dash and those three things.

I didn't feel like posting this last week, but I went about 110. And yeah, simple essentials are all you need in a car. As mentioned, learn to read a map (or list of directions) or whip out the hundreds of dollars you save from getting that nice GPS system to pay for gas, payphone and food money just in case you get lost really bad (believe me, I've gotten lost before, especially in Hayward, but I was lucky enough my car had enough gas to get home and then go back to the gas station).

*$5 says that drivers in Stockton still do the "Red light = last 5 cars okay".*

I managed just under 105 mph in my 1998 Ford Contour SE (2.0L Zetec I-4, 125HP, 127lb-ft).
I did 112 mph in my buddy's 2004 Nissan Sentra SE-R Spec-V (2.5L I-4, 175HP, 180lb-ft).
I hit the 120 mph mark limited by gov'd in my 2006 Ford Focus ZX4 ST (2.3L Duratec I-4, 151HP, 154lb-ft).
I've done over 130 mph in my buddy's 2007 Mazdaspeed3 (2.3L turbo Duratec I-4, 263HP, 280lb-ft). I've read that the car can do more than 150 mph.
And, lastly, I've taken my 2005 Subaru Impreza WRX to the limit over 140 mph (2.0L turbo flat-4, 227HP, 217lb-ft). The speedometer only goes to 140, but everything I've read says the car tops out at 147 mph, so I must have been nearly there.

I broke my record of 77mph the other day on the free way. I went 80! The top speed of my car used to be 77.

I put some fuel additive in when I filled up that day, did that make the difference?

A 747-400 (the big Jumbo jet) has a cruising speed of about 950 km/h which equates to 590mph. That is its cruising speed. It can go well over 600mph.

Just so that you know (not directed to Diabetic) g-forces are produced due to acceleration and not due to the speed you are travelling at. You could be travelling at the speed of light without undergoing any minimal g-forces if you had accelerated slowly enough.

Sorry but that is not fun , that is stupidity...not responsible.

I didn't get my license until I was in my twenties & at 14 , the state deems it ok for a 14yr old to drive?

Good lord.

I'm not having a go at you for that but that is just too young for anyone to be driving a Porsche Cayenne. At any speed.

Holes in a parachute to eliminate drag? Man, the whole idea of a parachute is to create drag. If you put holes in it, you completely defeat it's purpose.
