they would probably tear from the holes outwards due to all the pressure

Not if you reinforced the sides of the holes. You don't HAVE to stop with that many Gs. I'm sure there's a way of doing it.

No, I'm sure there's NOT a way to do it. Put reinforced 'holes' in the chute and you affect the way it opens. They've spent over 40 years perfecting the chute systems on drag cars. You don't think they know a little more than you do?

I wondered where you had gotten to, sounds like you had fun! lol
As for chutes, those things are nasty, and very very sensitive. You guys remember or know of the Mars Rover NASA launched a couple of years back? They used a parachute to slow down the pod to land safely on the Mars surface. All their calculations showed that the parachute would open beautifully and everything would be good, but they did a wind tunnel test, and the thing wouldn't open (the terms they used was 'squidding'. If you ever see the video you'll see why).
The only reason why the chute wouldn't open was due to a manufacturing error in the relatively small hole at the back. The error wasn't anything large either, we're talking less than 10cm.

Could you put small holes in them to eliminate some drag? I'm sure there's some way of doing it.
Venom, I don't know if you're joking, but I seriously hope you are.
Holes in a parachute to eliminate drag? Man, the whole idea of a parachute is to create drag. If you put holes in it, you completely defeat it's purpose.

Small holes would slightly decrease drag and therefore stopping Gs. It would still drag like crazy.

Here's a link to a crash that happened to Eddie Hill at well over 300 miles per hour. His car came apart and he was air lifted to the hospital. A couple hours later he came back to the track to race his back up car. That was back in 1997. Drag racing is the safest form of auto racing around.

I've seen the vid, it's amazing. But about the brakes, I thought they applied the brakes when they stopped anyways. I thought it was only if you locked them that the back end would go unstable. And yes, I am obviously wrong:) (no sarcasm)

Update on the Prelude... I've got it stripped down. I mean stripped. I took it for a ride around town the other day, pulled back into the driveway, shut it down, and heard a faint noise that didn't sound right. I went to start it back up and the bottom end spun. I broke the timing belt. Now I get to drop the motor again to play with that. I'm thinking about leaving the doors off... like a Jeep! lol

When i previously posted in this topic (http://sportscarforums.com/showthread.php?t=1867&page=160) i was in a "55" reg ford fiesta.
Well since then a few things have happened (no i aint crashed) but a family berevement happened regarding my driving instructer but everything is now fine. 2 weeks passed and then i went on holiday & came back to find a letter telling me when my lessons would re-start and that he would be in a new car. a "AA Motoring" Ford focus. It turned up as a black tdci model on a "07" and it was a slow & slightly difficult change from the petrol fiesta. Now i am in a "57" reg titanuim diesel and since then i am in double figures for speeding. A few weeks ago i was doingg 35mph at night on a quiet road and a green light went to red so stopping it was a hard braking affair. But the fastest has now gone to 42mph.

What he said. That sort of thing over here would result in you having your car confiscated and impounded. If you do it again twice, your car gets crushed.
I don't think that happens in the US, but either way, no matter where you are wants to face the consequences of being caught doing that - except France, but the French suck.
Besides, top speeds in straight lines is for sissies. Real men clock cornering speed - or more specifically, how much faster the rear tyres are spinning over the front tyres while exiting the corner.

your record stands....for now. im not gonna puch my car past the limiter, which is 130 i believe. only way ill beat it is if i find avast empty section and i have a radar detector (which wouldnt help going that fast?).
mine is a 2003 1.8T Wolfs. mine is a mk4, i believe 04 was the last year for the mk4 so i take it yours must be a mk5.
btw auto or manual? mine is a 5 speed:D
you cant just fly around at 100+ all the time, and when you do excercise extreme caution, your adrenalin will keep you focused (for me at least)
and i have only exceeded 100 5 times since i got my car. ever since i got the clutch replaced (a day after i could drive alone) ive babied the car and dont abuse it, i take turns semi fast, but not tire schreeching nonesense.
there is a thing tho where you go from a top sign (slowly) and once the clutch is out you hammer it and you can get 80 in my car, then there is a brand new banked s turn that goes under the interstate (this is all out in the country btw) and it ends w/ going downhill alittle still over a small bridge then up hill and its done. i mention this because it reminds me of nurburgring for some reason (i havnt been to nurburgring in person tho:( )
im aware of the danger...thats why i dont go it often, and when i do its on a nice road 6 miles from teh nearest house around, no cops, if you go off the road the ditch is wide and its just prarie areound in case of worst car scenario.
btw i came down to the lower lot where sophmores park and this sophmore phag in an old accord coupe or prelude (in jenky shape) was trying to burnout and drift. its hasnt rained here in a few weeks so it was very dry. so it was grippy. his car is an auto so he would TRY and burnout. in the empty part. he tried to drift via turning and hitting the brake (not the e-brake). this resulted in slowing down very quickly and turning.when i drove by him when i left he revved his engine at me and i just gave him the 'yeah, right' look and mozied into the horizon. i think his friend filmed it so if i can ill get a copy

Yeah.
Seriously, don't do too much research, you'll come to see how f*cking confusing it is to be English.
Everything is in Miles.
We drink in Pints (and gallons)
Our cars have fuel tanks in litres, but we measure in mpg:-k
We weigh in stone and lbs, but we weren't allowed to for a brief period.
We build things in millimeters. But we measure our own height in feet/inches.
Temperature is always in degrees celsius, most people don't even know there is another measurement of temperature.
Here's a good one, which may apply in the States too-
Wheels' diameters are measured in inches, but what does it say on your Tires? Go check...

For those of you who don't know what a creeper is, it's a device that you lay down on, and it usually has four swivelling wheels on the bottom, this one had six. It's really low to the ground so you can roll under a vehicle to work on it. The hill is a little over two blocks long, and is pretty steep. And that, ladie's and gentleman, is the fastest I've ever gone on a creeper. It was Xtreme to the max! Lol. Guess I had too much Mt. Dew...

The top speed of my car is 77mph :(
What kind of car?
Probably a Lado or Yugo.
Nothing else is that slow.

Some older trucks might be that slow. My friend has an older truck and says it won't go much faster than 75mph flat out. 4X4 + bad aero + low hp = low top speed.

The fastest i've ever been was in a 1970's or 1980's ford cortina pickup flying past a 911 turbo (we were racing, and i was a passenger) and the speed i don't really know because at the moment i was more afraid of losing my life than the speed we were going...

You were racing a 911 Turbo and flew past him? lol

no really it was racing but the ford was a 3.0 V6 and had something called the interceptor kit wich is 2 carburators per cilinder or something similar to that...

2 carbs per cylinder? Now THAT'S high tech right there! lol
12 carbs on a 6 cylinder. Man I want that engine!

Believe me its one of the scariest things you will ever see and the owner of that 911 had another 911 that when it weel spinned it use to scrape pieces of tar out of the road...

Spec-V's are pretty nice. I used to hang out with a guy that had a turbo'd and built 05 spec-v that ran mid to high 12's at the track. Talk about torque steer though. It was ridiculous trying to drive it anywhere but in a straight line. Then it got stolen... Not cool.

Lol, what were the wheels made of, shovels ?
My current top speed is somewhere between 100-110. I daren't go any faster, the engine sounds like it's gona pop. Nearly 4 grand in a diesel sounds scary. Not because it is scary, because if you blow your engine, maw and paw won't be best pleased. But god I love my brakes. Solid as you like, even from that speed, no wobble or anything.
