Don't wana crash at that speed, it's only got a 4 star safety rating you know....... :p

You think this is the first thing people search for when they come on the forum ?

I found this thread by chance and I thought : "Yeah, I'm going to show off with my city car!".
Then : "Why not tease these guys with the speeds I reach with my mountainbike?".

To conclude, this thread is really fun as long as what you write is real.

By the way, I suddenly realized that a lot of members own RS6s and Murcielagos.

Lots of people can afford a Lamborghini. If we sold our cottage and the Tacoma, we could easily buy a Gallardo or even a Murcielago. But most people arn't willing to spend that much on one car.

250km/h in my USA's aunt's car a 535d(but my father driving :p). Then, 245km/h with a Laguna 2.0T (in a descending road), with this car in a plan road only did 236km/h.

Afford doesnt mean "can"

Just because you can buy something doesnt mean you can afford it.

Most people over the age of 40 in the US have atleast a million to their name, or they are in serious trouble retirement wise.

That doesnt mean they can spend that money, they have to live on it.

Anyone whos planning to retire before they are 70 had better have a million to their name by 40, thats total assests mind you, net worth. Thats house, property, cars, money in the bank, their TV, their stock, 401ks, retirement accounts and such. Heck most companies these days match you dollar per dollar on retirement accounts, so you just put in about 20k a year, get 20k from the company and its tax "exempt" (not really but its not taxable now).

That doesnt mean a million in the bank, not many people have that.

You need more than a mil in networth to retire, so if your in your 40's and arent there, your in trouble retirement wise.

actually, that is not true (at least in the U.S.), since we have things like government assisted housing, Social Security, Welfare, and not to mention all of the damn equal opportunity employers who favor the elderly (aka Wallmart).

so I would not say people are in trouble if they are below that standard you set forth.

if I had a mil net worth at 40, I'd retire then!!!

You cant retire very well on a mil net worth.

Social security is a very small amount, and youll never see a penny of the money you put in because it will have collapsed by the time you retire.

Welfare isnt for you, and its a pitiful ammount.

Walmart ? your going to work when you retire ???

If you plan on the government handling your retirement your f***ed if you know what I mean.

3 up to about 5 milllion net worth is a pretty average retirement around here, mabey Im just spoiled.

But I dont really feel like living off the crumbs the government gives me.

Hell you should have a million net worth well before your 40's if you have kids.

It takes almost a million to have one kid from birth till they leave the house.

I dont think some of you quite realize how much it costs to live, food, insurance, house, medical, ect, ect, ect.

On my way home, there's this Cobalt next to me at a stop light. He's being a showoff to his gf so he kept revving the car and keeps looking at me.. definitely wanting a race. On green, I just let him go because my radar detector is already signaling there's a cop somewhere in front. He took off really fast, then after 1/8 mile, a cop pulled him over. I just started laughing. What an idiot!

Radar sends out radiation and then measures how long it takes to bounce back, the detector just tells you if there is radiation being sent out from anywhere around you.

You get some false alarms though, sometimes gas-stations set mine off with their radar/credit card systems.

Perhaps, even, a guesstimation? I mean, if the needle is in between 100 and 105, it's not wrong to say it was about 102 or 103. It's not like we should be anal about rounding it off to the nearest 5 or anything, anyway.

i don't drive yet so i have no clue, but my dad went to germany and went on the autobahn in a 7-series BMW, note sure what engine or what top speed though, but i'm pretty sure that was the fastest he's driven. i think it was sometime in the '80s. reminds me of how my friend said his mom's boyfriend too a turbo deisel dodge caravan on the autobahn lol

Perhaps, even, a guesstimation? I mean, if the needle is in between 100 and 105, it's not wrong to say it was about 102 or 103. It's not like we should be anal about rounding it off to the nearest 5 or anything, anyway.
But it's something that people do all the time and a large majority of those people that do it are proven wrong after a bit of questioning.

Have you ever driven a car at extremely high speeds? Let's say over 180? If you've got the balls to look at the speedometer well enough to know if it's 182 or 184 then you're a braver man than me!

We get people here all the time that did 192 or 197 or 187... it's funny.

Exactly. Even on a motorcycle... the speedometer may only be a couple inches below your line of sight when you're tucked in but taking your eyes below the fairing at those speeds for that long is so scary it's not worth it.

And also, the speeds that people choose are often the top speeds of well known sports cars. For example, some people will claim 187mph, which is the top speed of the R8, or 192mph which is the Porsche 911 turbo's top speed.

lol I'm still laughing at that guy who lied about the Murcielago

I was more referring to Asboe's claim of 102mph than anything else. While my highest is 27mph shy of that, it might be possible if he was on a wide, fairly straight and un-busy highway.

But anywhere around 180 IS ridiculous. It's one thing to glance at the speedo at that speed, but it's another thing to be able to even see directly where the needle is pointing to.

Try rush hour in SoCal where it's 5-10 mph...

Dude, try driving in Atlanta traffic...you actually have to put it in reverse and go backwards.
It took me an hour and a half to drive NEAR Atlanta. I wasnt even going through atlanta, it was just a town near it! Its so bad.

I've broken it numerous times and it's not really that big of a deal. I'd rather go around a tight curve at 60 with my ass end sliding out than hit 200 for the one or two seconds that most cars with that speed can stay at it for.

We're NOT going to get into an argument over who has the worst traffic. Try living where I do... where you can drive at night for 50 miles and not pass a car. It's eerie!

Amen to that. You get that feeling you'll crash if you look over for a second or something. Ever been in a car with someone driving to fast in a very narrow or winding roads? Its just as scary when your driving, because theres the fact you dont have the control of the car.

only on the braking I always doubt as a passenger

Me too, and I've thought about why a lot as well. I've put it down to control. When driving, you have ultimate control over what you do, so you are reassured, but as a passenger, you have little to none, and so you feel really insecure.

I hate it when I think too much...

it is scary but the passenger doesn't have to keep his eyes on the road.

I agree with that. Most definitely, unless the guy driving fast is a pro racecar driver who I feel has excellent control over the vehicle.

same. i don't drive fast with other people in my car anyway because
1. i know how scary it can feel when you are hurtling along with no control.
and
2. if i crash i only have me to worry about.

since i got my license i have only done 2 real burnouts. i have spun the wheels a fair few times but only done 2 burnouts. my girlfriends dad saw me do one of them. and he hasn't spoken to me about it but if he does i will tell him that yeah i did it and i am sure he probably did at some point too. but i would never do something like that with his daughter in the car because i don't want to scare her or put her life in any danger

I just can't see the purpous of tuning a baleno

well unless you get some fast cars here we are stuck with cars like the d15 vtec the baleno for the under 20usd in india this i what we have then the useless 4g15 lancers but share the same body with the evo 4,5,6 for which is worth only for its amazing shell at the tracks for the swaps for the mivec 180 bhp or the evo swaps.

then there are the skodas which weigh a lot compared to the others so this is why we are left with cars like the baleno ,esteem,zen,d15vtec,for tuning and also my next car might be a baleno or esteem.
