Thats a good qusetion! Unless the speedometer had a digital readout or you had some sort of memory device or someone else was in the car reading the speedometer, I don't know how you could tell.
The fastest I've driven was about ~105 mph. It's tough to say cause I could BARELY glance at my gauges for a split second before my eyes were back on the road.

mavric 05 I know a little about LS1 Camaros and there is no way in hell you did 187 with the mods you claim to have. Intake, exhaust, ECU...sorry its just not happening. The LS2 in the Vette is good for 186, your car didn't make enough power to push you up that high. Don't try and lie about fastest you've gone its not a contest!

Yeah, I have a Cobra XRS-9930 that I got couple weeks ago. It blew my entire saving for like 3 weeks just to get that but it really do work.

Speed limit is 70 mph here on I-90 highway but no one actually follows it. There are lots of other cars doing 85+ mph. 70 mph feels a bit slow if you're on a highway and also I want to see how good my Z performs. Haven't used it for like 2 weeks because of rain.

found out my FC currently does not accelerate beyond some 230 and a bit kph. Tried autobahning it a bit and it just creeps to the 230 mark and roughly stops there.

A camaro will never reach that speed with intake/exhaust mods, which is like a 5hp gain, and ECU mod which is like....40 hp at the most. I have no clue how much extra speed ecu mods give you, but I know it can't boost your speed as much as you claim.

Its alot easier to do these sorts of speeds on UK motorways, most the people in the fast lane are doing at least 90, and if your going faster than most the people the majority of people have the decency to move out the way.

You can take corners at high speeds too if u got the balls and the car to do it, I took one corner at 100 and it was kinda scary cos the amount of Lateral G is more than what u would experience on a normal road goin fast, if u had a car stable enough it would be cool i guess (cant wait for that day)

That's what they say when "55 saves lives". But the average legal speed limit is between 65 - 75 (65 in the slow lane and 75 in the fast lane).

Fastest I've driven: Between 120-125mph in my 2001 Acura Integra. (The one in the picture). This was back in 2003. It's dead now though. Totaled it doing around 80-85 mph on a curvy road and rolled over in the woods. Lost control in wet weather. Bad decision. I stopped driving fast for about 2 years. My decision making skills got better so now I only drive fast on open highway, not one lane curvy roads at night in wet weather.

I hit 110mph today in my 2001 Civic EX coming up Interstate 95. I was doing 100-110 for about a mile. It was crazy. Traffic is horrible near northern virginia and D.C. and there are lot of cops in the area but I was coming back from Richmond and between Kings Dominion and Stafford (about 15-20 miles) there is almost no traffic and no cops for the most part. I was crusing at 75mph in the middle lane and when I got to that area I just described in the previous sentence, I decided to let my car loose and see what it could do. Its completely stock and will stay that way since I am getting a sportsbike in a month and hopefully a STi next summer, but I still enjoy speed. I was going right over 100 and was coming up on a car in the middle lane and the driver mustve crapped their pants because before I even had time to get over to the left lane to pass him they swerved to the far right lane. They mightve been going 65 because the speed limit is 65 on that highway. Seemed like he was sitting still when I passed him. I cant wait until I get the sportbike and hit 170.

Fastest Ive ever been in a car was a 2000 BMW 528i. This happened in early 2000 when I was just learning to drive, but my dad was driving. My dad hit approximately 130 for only a few seconds. Moment of insanity by him that was never experienced again thanks to my mom. Our entire family was in the car heading to my grandmas house and my brother and I were in awe. Even though it was a sunny, clear day on a straight country road with no other cars my mom put an end to that fun with one look to my dad. He was grinning ear to ear. He plans on getting a 911 turbo next year when he retires. He might have to take it out on the highway without my mom.

Hi all, new to the site and i said i would give my two cents worth. The fastest i have ever driven at is 220 K/ph in my 320si beemer. That was only about 3 hours after i had got the bloody thing. Then when i pulled up outside my uncles to show him my shiney new car i noticed a couple of liters of water pouring out from under the engine :eek: Had to then bring it back to the dealer and i was without it for the weekend. A formula 1 chassis can run 250+ mph on 700 HP.

Still though, I did not mention the aerodynamic drag number without reason. The car causes significantly more drag then a formula 1 car to stick with that example or a veyron.

you make yourself sound like someone who is looking for a way out of a bad lie. Give me the specs on the setup and I might believe you. A 400 shot sounds more like the needed spec though. A 400 shot will cause severe stress on the manifolds and various other components and can if setup improperly, cause cold spots in the intake manifold making it crack or even worse, cause nitrous backfire and cause your bottle to fly out of your trunk.

tuner cars using nitrous oxide generally have smaller engines.

The Viper 8.3 liter engine can handle/should be able to handle a bit more then a 2 liter 4 inline. I've seen 400 shot nitrous on a 428 ford engine before.

as far as I'm informed ferraris, lambos and porsches don't like nitrous oxide.
Their engines are generally constructed with narrower margins then used in stock consumer market engines and therefor more sensitive towards energy/pressure peaks.
I've seen turbos and superchargers used. They generally don't cause peaks if the setup is built and installed properly.

You can get nitrous kits for any car. NOS will set one up for a Renault Le Car and I know that Brownwood Speed Shop in SoCal will make one for a Veyron.

the amount of power needed to increase a cars top speed is dependant on a lot of factors.
One would be car weight, another would be the cars drag coefficient, yet another teh current top speed as the power needed to further increase the top speed increases not in a straight line but in a curve that becomes steeper the faster the car is currently running.

These factors make it so that for nearly every car a different amount of power is needed to increase the top speed by 1 mph.
This is not even taking the gearing into account.

On the way out to visit the wife's family in Wisconsin. And NO, I didn't pass anyone going nearly that fast, I waited till I had a clear straight shot so that if anything happened I only killed myself. Is that responsible, still no, driving that quickly should really be on a track, but it was one of those things I did once and won't do again.

That would be (partially) right.
When drag is the only limiting factor more power would be guided to the wheels to increase speed or drag would have to be reduced.

Reducing drag can only be done by means of aerodynamic measures.

Increasing power applied to the wheels can be done in many ways. A change in gearing could be one, increasing engine power would be another method. Changes in gearing don't work miracles but can make a small difference. Redusing losses in transmission on the other hand could make a significant difference. At the stage where drag is the limiting factor weight no longer has much of an influence on top speed.

Just like drag racing. Let's say you have a 250 hp car that runs 14's in the 1/4 mile. It's possible to drop a full second off that car by ading 100 or 125 hp. Now let's say you have an 850 hp car that runs 9 flat. Add 100 or 125 hp to that 850 and you might take off 3 tenths or so... There are just too many different things involved...
