 drift? there was some talk about it but I did not have achance to check it out since I had a dinner meeting that evening. Sold a mighty amount of trees because of it as well.

I did see the track though.

One of the meanest sounding cars was a white wide body R33. Not quite surprising though as it looked completely devoid of any insulation.
That was one of the fastest cars around that day anyways, but then again, 1100 HP in a nearly street legal car is madness.

To be honest, I hardly caught any of the times those cars managed. I was paying attention to the happenings behind the starting grid more since they seemed more interesting somehow :p

The tubbed white R33? Very mean. There was another white 33 too.

That Tagaki (or is it?) 1000hp RB26 S13 seemed to do alright, 10.02 I believe. Traction's a b*tch with 1000hp :D

The best sounding GT-R there in my opinion was a silver 32, it had gold Advan wheels and one of those longish bootlip spoilers. Tough as nails. All the 32 GT-Rs looked so tough barreling down the straight. A real agressive stance.

Perhaps you saw (or at least heard, insane!) the silver and black sponsered FD? That thing a 9.40 something, the MkII Supra happened to be in the same league too with a 9.50 something.

Yep, seen that one do a very mean looking burnout. Most cars needed to be held in place by one or two persons to avoid them moving off initially. That one just started producing smoke (and nearly went towards a team mate) without any kind of warning (apart from the howling of the engine).

I am most ashamed to state that I remember the taste of the beef hotpot better then some of the cars I saw only 6 hours before :(

What you need is a copy of HPI 9 to refresh your memory of 'the Japanese Way'.

A very good issue by the way, D1GP at Tsukuba, some Autosalon (forget name of place), Touge Drifting in Gifu, Drift session at Nikko, Circuit testing at Suzuka (S14 SR powered Eight-Six, making 420-430hp), Sendai Drag racing, Sendai Club drift then back home in Aus attempting to get an R34 GT-T into the 11's.

11.90 something @ Heathcote Raceway, car makes 294rwkW

Random: I find myself stating hp numbers so much more now, bloody americans, I'm a kW and Nm kid!

It sounds like you're right :D

HPI stands for this series of DVD's called high performance imports I take it.

Those types DVD's usually and trailers usually give me bad ideas.
Then again, germany is not the place for drifting.
Street layout goes totally against it.
Imagine new york style streets but without the high buildings to warrant such a way of building.

Near Warstein there are some nice downhills very suited for drifting but unfortunately also very suited for getting yourself killed in the process because of oncoming traffic with heavier cars then you will ever hace

If that blue S6 Audi really was the GT3000 mule, then you definetly have some bloody awesome twisties near you. Just very narrow... a lot of blind corners... and as you said, traffic. lol

Sounds plain dangerous, didn't stop the driver in the other videos drift out of hairpins on the same roads in an E60 M5 or chase a Gallardo up a mountain in a GT3 Porsche.

Same Gallardo went bahnstorming with a brand spanker, 997 Turbo. The Turbo pulls away then stays about 40-60 metres ahead consistantly. Must be those trick turbos, or maybe it's a auto and he used the overboost feature (silly, silly feature, very gimmickey). Same thing as electronic boost control, only it ups it for mere seconds. Bastads!

I want to go Bahnstorming in a 600hp R34 GT-R, visit Nurburg, then lap the Nordschleife a few times, then bahn it again home topping out both ways. Now that would be the life...

Would be a no-go proposition now as the only R34 I've driven was sold.
Otherwise, sounds like my road trip with a 334 RwKw M3 I've taken to the ring quite some time back.
That was before I was told the legal top speed on the autobahn is 160kph. :|

The car topped out at 260+ kph but accelerated awesomely fast

Considering the size and weight of an RX7, either generation, I'd rather not try anything over 200kph. Rolling that thing over would surely result in being killed to death.Killed to death... as opposed to killed just part way to death? lol :D

the solitaire
Jun 27, 2006, 11:01 AM
Killed to death and killed are only seperated in definition by the sheer amount of brutality involved in the addition of teh words "to death".

Imagine stepping on a bunny. It would be killed of course.
Now imagine stepping on a bunny, registering the crunching sound of it's spine and the somewhat jelly consistancy of it's intestines as a pleasant thing which makes you jump up and down repeatedly to "kill it dead"

*legal disclaimer: this is by no means behaviour promoted by either me or SCF and said parties will not be responsible for any material, emotional or bunnyficial damage to either the rabbit or the persons/material/location involved in any such event taken oplace in a direct result to any information made available in this post.

I don't see why Rav thinks RX7's topple over.
I've been tossing them in corners at speeds excessive of 140kph without the slightest idea that they would start rolling which partially can be accounted for by the relatively low centre of gravity due to the small construction of the rotary engine.

monkeyfkker
Jun 27, 2006, 12:20 PM
As have I... I used to take my 82 RX-7 down the side streets at about 75 and do E Brake slides... never rolled it. They aren't top heavy and I agree, I don't know where he got that info from!

parko1990

I think he's talking about downforce over the rear end.

Quite a slipperry, curvacious shape. Then again the red Still Way FD I keep talking of hit 260kmph in a matter of seconds down your average two lane street with no wobbles or looks of it getting taily.

It has all stock FD body but witout the rear wing.

Reminds me of that Option 350Z crash a while back, 340kmph... started getting taily and nervous, stepped of the throttle, blew a rear tire, back down to 300, then rolled it 7 times. It was at the Silver State Classic.

So what do they do? Build another!

The moral of the story is... buy a Rotary :D

Pretty much.

But then again, I never said anything about it's handling, I just said that rolling it over at high speed would probably kill you in a worse fashion than most other cars of that age.

Rotary engine, by nature have a lack in low RPM torque. Even with a turbo this does not increase significantly.

That means that a rotary engine has a very generous powerband.
Low initial power makes the car accelerate gradually and the high RPM ranges, which offer plenty of HP allow a decent top end speed.

This characteristic in rotary engines makes drifting a rotary into an art form in it's own right :D

On the other side of the story I've seen a wide bodies 4WD lose tracktion in all different ways and directions (with the slight exception of anything out of the horizontal plane) in a 1/4 mile stretch.

You gonna prove you own it?

And what is it? First you say it's a GT40, as in legendary Le Mans victor, and now you're saying it's a GT, as in Ford's recent 550hp 5.4L s/c supercar.

If he got it from a dealership it's a GT. If he thinks it might have been a GT 40 he doesn't own one.

I think the difference of some 40 years of existence would be clear to most.

My apologies GT40 guy but there are to many clowns running loose to believe a shady claim just like that. This forum is hit by 3 suicide puber ca magazine hugging loons per week claiming they own everything from lamborghinis to street legal formula 1 cars resulting in most of the people here being slightly sceptical about the next 15-year-old-with-an-enzo.

Just post a pic of you in your car and we're satisfied.

180mph is dangerously fast for a public road. Think of the bunnies

It's a lie, simple as that. Just by the way he talks about it. "ya i just got the same 1 the 05 red with white stripes and all the exteras like macintosh sound system and stuff"First of all he called it a GT40. Nobody buys a car like that and doesn't know what the hell it is. Second, it's McIntosh. Third, he later said it's his and his dads. If he would've just said in the first place that his dad got one... maybe I'd believe it, but he didn't say that until he was confronted 3 or 4 times, now I don't believe him at all. And finally, 180? Whatever... Where?

How were the cacti (spl?)?

When acctully driving a car myself in recent times I would estimate 5kmh but that was in a garage. I had to move it half a meter to get the boot open, as oppised to just opening the door.
But afterwards I put it in neutral and reved it a bit. It sounded really strong around 4500 - 5000 rpm (also a guess)

I'm starting to appreciate the autobahn.

165+ MPH in a 1989 911 bought by a friend of mine 2 weeks ago for $1500.
The car really needs a lot of work done, has a few minor mods (otherwise it's be stuck at 155) and we did a test ride to see how the engine is amongst others.

We had it revving at 6500rpm for about 25 minutes before we decided to throttle down and teh engine seems to be fine.
Now the suspension, that realy needs work done.
The shocks feel like they're non-existent.

Brakes make a lot of noise but the brake pads were new and the discs look fine

Have to take apart the suspension to check for play.
Furthermore, the tacho seems to be faulty.
It doesn't come up at all until 50kph (30mph) but from then seems to be rather accurate.

The pad composition has been known to cause that problem.. it depends on who makes them. Also, it may be that the little metal piece that hits the disc when your pads are low was moved or damaged and continues to hit it even with good pads.

I'm pretty sure that you weren't following the normal break in procedures of a new motor vehicle.[-X Even if you do have this car which i highly doubt you do any one in there right mind wouldn't do 180 on the first day of driving their new car. Don't forget either panties or stockings from the police officer who gave you the speeding ticket.
We don't believe the speeding ticket itself since police are known as the second most unreliable source when it comes to actual speeds.
They always add to their favour.

Anyone know that one commercial where 4 guys in a 1970's ford escort are pulled over for speeding, the cop hangs in the window and asks the driver how fast he thought he was driving, the driver looks very "cool and in control" and says: "240" (kph)

Police officer steps back, looks at the car, goes back to the window and says "more like 140 sir" and the guy responds with: "no way!"

I belive you but I would like to see the tape for my own enjoyment.......I don't because the manifold and turbo don't stay glowing 'red hot' for five minutes after you stop... sorry

He didn't say they were glowing red hot for five minutes.....they were glowing red then 5 minutes later people lighted smokes off of it. It probably wasnt red when they lit the smokes.

a little while back a friend and myself where driving back from cape town to our home town knysna ( +-550km)... the night before we left my car was stolen so we got a courtecy car from the insurance... a 1.4 citi golf

we decided to take the back roads home, as they are more scenic...

we got this insanely long straight, and there were no cars in sight, so we wanted to see what the little car could do... considering there was 2 of us and all our luggage, andthe car has a tiny engine, and the aerodynamic properties of a milk box, we got up to 180km/h... pretty good if i do say so myself...

It probably wasn't red when they lit the smokes.Turn on an electric stove and try lighting a cigarette off it before it starts glowing. Doesn't work... It has to be red hot. Just like a car lighter...

You're probably right because in this video the manifold cools down in a couple seconds.

114mph... thats as fast as my clio will go. not the most stable car either...

Clio is a lot more stable then a civic with deflated rear tires. (I only found out they were deflated after I got home. Was already wondering why the car was so wobbley though).

Now I couldn't advise anyone to drive 100+ MPH on deflated/partially deflated rear tires (still had under 0.5 bar of pressure in them) so in order to save lives, as soon as the rear of the car starts making it's own decisions as on where to take you, stop the car and check the tire prenssure (oh, and maybe slow down before stopping at a gas station.)

If someone told me that story,, I'd laugh also because it does sound like a big lie,,,, so I will try and get the vid on the computer soon. It's on VHS right now.

VHS. A legend from the past.
I feel completely on a retro trip now.
Yesterday I was still playing videogames on an authentic arcade machine and played some pinball games on rebuilt pinball machines, watched Army of Darkness and agreed to meet some old friends on an '80's party, today I see talk of VHS players.

Ha! The other day I was talking to my mates saying how much better life would be in the early seventies, when TV wasn't a capitalist nuisance, computers didnt rule everything and petrol cost less than flour - which was good because if I had lived back then my Monaro GTS would be sucking the middle east dry every time I started it.

That makes me wonder who the james dean equivalent of the 80's would be to represent the era for future generations.
Neither Stallone nor Schwarzenegger seem to have played intellectual movies .... succesfully.

And I would never accept teh hoem alone 2 kid to run with the credits!

What topic was this again?

Oh yeah, speeds.
No spectacular speeds today.
Walked to work with a top speed of 4 MPH.
I estimate to not make that speed on the way back due to a high concentration of short skirts and long legs on the road.

they are everywhere these days.
and they seem really clumsy since they keep dropping stuff when walking past guys. :|

my fastest speed today was 85 km/h on my bike, holding on to a cars trailer. the bugger was speeding so i had to let go before the cop caught up with him.

I know the problem.
Does sweden have bike police?
Those guys are best shaken off by speeding down a staircase. Most don't dare to follow on steep stairs.

well in stockholm there are some but not many. mostly cars.
ive been chassed by 3 bike cops at most.
they really suck at riding. i jumped of a 1m high wall and 2 of them fell onto eachother, and the last one fell down some stairs tripping about 10 people.
all the comps who drive cars cant run, and since there is forest and small paths everywhere here all you have to do is ride on one of those and the comps cant keep up.

its really fun getting pulled by cars. the only problem is that you have to be readdy to let go if the car brakes.

I did 114mph today. My job has me in another town where I get to take a long highway that doesn't have a lot of traffic.

I shouldn't have done it.

It only went up to 80mph but it was probably like 85mph with a Datsun 200sx. I reach 112mph with a Civic and 98mph with a Integra. So the fastest was with the Civic.
