If it's from WCF, then it's likely fake. Just like they did with the Lambo Gallardo/SUV.
If not, then I say it's a new SLK55.

I barely know anything about Mercedes. So I just assumed since there was an SLK55 AMG in the first pic, that's what the car would be.

Is it the new CL55/63 AMG?
d3agle
Mar 24, 2007, 1:44 AM
They said on the site that it would probably be the new C-class AMG. But it has like carbon fibre trims on the bumper and I don't think that's been done on a C-class before. If it is going to look like that then I'm looking forward to it. It'll make good competition for the likes of M3, IS-F, and RS4.

definitely a c63.
look at the lines of the rear section of the C-Class sport...looks similar to the pictures

Identified most of the lines, definately a coupe (not hardtop convertible), 19(ish) inch wheels, S-class style wheelarches, short overhangs, probably RWD, possibly gills or something behind front whelarches, no idea what's just below lip spoiler.
EDIT: possibly THE sloppiest photoshop I've ever done:

no, i still think it's a sedan, just looking at the roofline. and the rear bumper goes much further out than how you have it apprear TBR. still, quite nice representation.

Mar 24, 2007, 2:41 AM
^^^Check the first pic. I can only see one door handle, and it's well over half way between the wheels. And there is a crease leading up to the lip spoiler, unlike any of the sedans. Also the area around the C-Pillar is more defined, and the top of the A-Pillar is not a prominent as in the sedan.

It'd be nice if its C63 AMG, but i dont see the rear door handle.. plus i doubt C class would get that 65 AMG style bumper with CF vents. If you watch closely, there's a huge fender flare above the CF vents, so far only S and CL has that kind of flares. so its either one of those, or CLK AMG black edition..
TBR 427

I hope the official pics of the CLK come out soon, so I can PS it into another CLK-GTR race car, against my 997 GT1, and possibly something else.

Mar 24, 2007, 3:12 AM
Is definitelly a coupe and for the looks of that "exposed" carbon fibre on the teaser pics and that square shape on the back (probably a spoiler) is gonna be something bigger than the usual AMG models, something more extreme, why to botter with all this countdown thing if it wasn't something different? I guess it's the CLK 63 Black Series, something between the normal CLK 63 and the CLK DTM.
EDIT - Look at this:
This is a side vent from this mistery AMG
http://blog.worldcarfans.com/blog/8070323.002/8070323.002.Mini1L.jpg
Here you have the same type of carbon fibre vent on the SLK 55 AMG Special Series or the "puristic" edition which is lighter, has 400 bhp and a non-retractable roof.
http://img86.imageshack.us/img86/206/mercedesbenzslk55amg400kr8.jpg
^You can find those vents on the SLK Black Series too, so as I said above this mistery car is porbably a special version of the CLK 63.

and notice that the protection thingy on top of that mystery AMG, its got a light washer thing...:p and the grills are not the ones on the SLK and are similar to the SL65 AMg ones...
well i have seen an AMG kit on the new C-class...it looks okay, but im sure its not this, this is a two door thing and looks like a CL, but the new CL has an AMG version already...so WTF

if you look at the front of the bonnet you will notice the angle of the grille is different so its not a cl.
i think im gonna go with jonsailo on it bein a c-class
but theyve never done anything like this with a c-class before?
but its only got one dorr handle?
are we sure we arent seeing a revival of something of old?
cause they havent done this for anything before so this must be pretty besty to get this much attention....im lost with this one.
http://www.rsportscars.com/foto/05/cls63amg06_08.jpg
now look at the CLS roofline its fairly similar so i think this could be a 4 seater sports car? maybe to rival the 911 or maybe up its self to go against the ferrari 4 seaters? cause that would explain the grandure of the countdown and teaser pictures?
velocity
Mar 24, 2007, 8:56 AM
it maybe an amg c class coupe, just the right rival for the fourthcoming e92 m3. mercedes must have been thinking of producing a competitor for the m3 coupe. or am i wrong?

Mar 24, 2007, 10:02 AM
I have a suggestion:
Remember some time ago, some pics of a bare, small Merc racer was posted, called something like "the new, small SLR". It was set to compeet with the F430, 911, Gallardo and R8...? Anybody remembers that thing? -It was only a frame, wheels, a seat and an mid-engine.
Couldn´t this one be it?
-EDIT: I just took another look at the pic of this unidentified AMG, it looks too big to be a "F430, 911, Gallardo and R8"-competitor, and it does absolutely NOT look like a mid-engine...it has more of a coupe body- perhaps Merc wants to make a wild version of a future Audi A5/S5 rival?!
Robbie
Mar 24, 2007, 10:04 AM
ahh, yea, that one, i remember that, and someone said that it was some sort of garage project and its not a merc? wow, it could be like that, but the seating postition was very low on that car, but who knows, maybe it IS that car! nice memory simonthevimon!

Mar 24, 2007, 10:14 AM
I'm sure it is not the C63/55 AMG cause it simply hasn't got the shape of a sedan.
I thik that's it the AMG version of the new CL. But that's slightly unlogical because I saw a brand new CL AMG (dunno if it was a 55 or 63) in the streets a couple of days ago... with German plates.
EDIT: having looked at the picture again I think it's the CLK Black Series. As NV85 pointed out, it's got the same carbon bits (what's that called in more precise terms?) as the SLK Black Series. I also noticed something else: the rims. They are not ones of the 63 AMG trim (that excludes a CL or C 63) nor the ones of a 55/65 AMG. They are however the same as the SLK Black Series, and you can even see on this picture that the carbon in the corner of the SLK ressembles very much that carbon pictured...

CLK Black Series
http://img395.imageshack.us/img395/1562/ghjklpy7.jpg
After doing so with the SLK 55 AMG just recently, engineers are now making the CLK 63 AMG even sportier: They are about to develop an exclusive, emphatically puristic special series, a car that sets new standards in handling dynamics – the CLK 63 AMG Black Series - and not the CLK Facelift as previously reported. With the AMG 6.2-litre V8 engine, which has been boosted to 530 bhp, the numerous lightweight components, 19-inch AMG forged wheels, AMG adjustable sports suspension and AMG high-performance composite brakes, the special CLK 63 AMG brings its sports car talents to bear even more convincingly – and cuts an impressive figure especially on racing circuits.
Broad, brawny and low-slung – it's clear at first glance that the CLK 63 AMG Black Series is something very special. It offers a captivating view from the front with a redesigned AMG front apron and its broad openings, which supply the added transmission-oil cooler and the high-performance steering-oil cooler with plenty of fresh air. In addition, new side outlets made of carbon – still disguised in our pictures – ensure effective ventilation for the engine-oil coolers. The front wings, now wider, are made of reinforced plastic with ultra-light carbon-fibre composite material and feature black outlined air outlets.
The combination of low vehicle weight and a powerful AMG eight-cylinder engine ensures first-class performance. This CLK 63 AMG Black Series accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in only 4.5 seconds (standard model: 5.2 s). Power transmission is accomplished using the AMG SPEEDSHIFT 7G-TRONIC with manual drive program ("M") and AMG aluminium gearshift paddles on the steering wheel.

Its a CLK....first picture I believe is the front part of the bumper....lower right side (drivers prospective).
Second picture is the side vent after the front tire of the right side (drivers prospective). Therse are just guesses but I believe they are correct.
Cant wait to see this thing, hopefully the incoporate the DTM AMG into it.

I had already seen the pictures and have been trying to work out what it is.
I agree with NV85 and others who say that it is a CLK 63 Black Series.
However the 6.2/6.3 L V8 produces around 530 bhp anyway doesn't it? I hoped they would turbocharge it to produce 700 bhp.
RW_C55
Mar 24, 2007, 8:23 PM
I dont think they'll ever turbocharge and make the hp on CLK to exceed higher models, i.e. the E & CLS. They will however, reduce the weight by a little bit (still heavier than the CLK DTM), increase the hp to the same as E63 AMG, put on extra exterior cosmetics, and make lotta money with it, then Turbocharge the higher models, and then make more money, and then make black edition for higher models, and make even more money.
TBR 427
Mar 24, 2007, 10:03 PM
AMG's got it's hands full designing engines right now, so don't expect anything new in this. It is rumoured that Mercedes will have a new 2.5-4.0L V6 (+twin turbo 300kw/660Nm AMG version), a 4.8-6.4L V8 (+ another twin turbo 360kw/800Nm AMG), a V10 (?!?!?), and the flagship/car 48v, 6.8L V12. Those should appear in 2009(ish).
For now, though, the current C63 only has 354kw, the E63 has 372kw (500bhp). My guess is this CLK63 may have a 400kw(533hp) variant of the 6.2L AMG V8.

You have to remember that this is only the Black Series version. There is a level above the Black Series which is called the Signature Series, and we may eventually see a Signature version or a new CLK DTM AMG and that is what I am hoping for.
In the mean time there is always the 'old' CLK DTM AMG. I think this version is enough to be going on with for the time being however.
