The Noisemaker. That's what Auto Express's spy photographer nicknamed the ultimate Porsche 911 after tracking it this week. Needless to say, keeping up with the fastest-ever model in the range hasn't been easy, but our man found it first - and snapped these exclusive pictures.
Free of any disguise, this raucous supercar is the all-new GT2. The latest generation of 911 coupés, designated the 997, comprises the standard Carrera and Carrera S, plus Turbo, GT3 and GT3 RS variants. Yet while GT3 models are naturally aspirated, the T2 is turbocharged. And it is the flagship diehard fans have been waiting for: essentially a track-ready Le Mans racer for the road.
Porsche designers have been careful to give the new range-topper a unique look to distinguish it from other cars in the line-up. The front features distinctive rectangular air intake and LED lights, but it's the wide rear that's most striking. With a collection of slats and gills providing cooling for the flat-six cylinder engine, there's no doubt that this is a special Porsche.
Tipped to offer around 500bhp, the GT2 is likely to weigh about 100kg less than the standard Turbo model, and come with a racy new exhaust - the key to its awesome engine note. Expect the 0-60mph sprint to take around 3.7 seconds, with a top speed approaching 200mph. It's set to be officially revealed in the next 12 months.
sounds nice. i still don't like the stying of it, though. should be a very good track car, and a real F430 beater :p.
