"Spy photographers have snapped the first photos showing the new Porsche 911 GT2 without disguise. The new 997 model is expected to arrive late this year as a 2008 model.

Currently undergoing testing in the snow of northern Scandinavia, one can hear the GT2's unmistakable sound from some distance distance.

While the all-wheel-drive 997 Turbo delivers 480 horsepower, the rear-wheel-drive GT2 will come up with between 500 and 525 horsepower. Weighing some 220 to 330 pounds less than the Turbo, the GT2 promises to become the ultimate 911."

I never really saw the point of the GT2 before, always thought the turbo and GT3 had the market pretty much covered, but anyway this thing sounds pretty sweet, not the prettiest though

Are we sure this is the new GT2. I only ask because looking at the vents and stuff around the back bumper, it reminds of one of the 9ff 911's. Hummm...

it looks great but why do rear wheel drive porsches have more power than the all wheel drive or foward wheel drive?

the point of the GT2 is that its supposed to have a twin turbo setup... the turbo has a turbo but the gt3 has no turbo at all. :D

^^both the Turbo and the GT2 have a twin turbo setup ,, exept that the turbo has the luxury stuff , AWD and all that ,, the GT2 is more of an extreme turbo ,, its lighter and loose's the AWD and more power

yes but a gt3 would win around the track, its a track car, turbo is a rich mans porsche that dont want an un comfy ride

Gut out the interior, tug in a full roll cage, paint black,
give me lotsa money, and I'd definitely buy one (or two) :D.

Looks awesome. Missing a roll cage tho. That would be fun ;).
Tho the rear looks like coming straight from NFS (the gills).

^ great pose...love it...

that is asn absolute beauty, i dont know if it will have different rims but wow, those rims suits the car perfectly! then the bodykit, the fornt lips, wow, makes the car look more agressive by adding a bigger grill and all those different vents, well the side looks very good, just like the vents on the turbo...and then those little vents on the spoiler, GT2 classic feature...lovely car, even in these pics...the rear, i love it, those little vents, great, but i think theres too much little vents on the back...abit messy. but a great car, from porsche, hope they dont facelift it

Looks pretty good, kinda what the Turbo should have been in the first place, a little more crazier, but this car is nice nontheless, I like the looks of it a lot, although it would look a little better in black in my opinion. Sure got all those fancy gills around the sills aswell!

correct me if i'm wrong, but i do believe the idea behing the GT-designated models is that the GT3 is based on the standard carrera, and then tuned for lighter weight and more spirited handling and balance, etc.

the 911 GT2 has always had a turbo set up because it is based on the 'standard' 911 turbo, and then again is tuned for lightweight, spirited handling, etc. just a difference is that the AWD drivetrain is deleted from the turbo and the GT2 is rwd

so basically it's a 911 --> GT3 and then the turbo --> GT2

Whoa, that thing is hot! The intakes of that thing could take my pregnant Chihuahua in one mouthful! It looks even better than the 996 GT2, and I've always loved the 996 and hated the 997, so that's saying something.

By the way, I swear those pictures are taken at the exact same place as the first spy pictures of the 2007 Mercedes SL. SCF should buy a luxury cottage in that area so we for once can get pictures of new cars before Hans Lehmann.

thats going to be the ultimate 911 by some margin.
and im not sure about GT3 rs V a turbo
i think the turbo could make a gap on the straights but round the bends it would have the wieght disadvantage.
hmmm
what are the nurburgring times?

and who the **** is this hans g lemon guy? he has his name on everything...he sounds like a UN inspector to me.
hans blix, hans g lemon....it just works

I'm shocked, i never thought it would look like that, *snigger*
I wish porsche were imaginative. Please design somthing different. Like ferrari, or Audi, even Lambo. Porsche are brilliant to drive, but they all look the same. If everyone looked the same in the world it would be boring. Just like porsche's styling right now.

But because the styling has remained the same for so long, everyone knows what a Porsche looks like, it would break the tradition to radically alter the styling. They maintain the same type of styling, but porsches look a little nicer every time a new generation of them comes out.

Actually, I read an article in a magazine where the Turbo beats the GT3 around the short Nürburgring track(the short version of the track where the F1 drives on) with almost 1 second(1:21 to 1:22 if I remember correctly)

About the car. looks decent, if it lost the led lights and the bar seperating the air intake on the side, it'd look even better. Still prefer a GT3 styling wise though.
Power wise I dont think there is anymore to ask for.
