For 2007 Vauxhall will sell a rebadged commodore in the UK, equipped with a 6 litre LS2 corvette V8, making 412bhp. Its expected to go on Sale around Summer time for £31,000. Though it will be renamed, so its not going to be called a commodore. Though don't expect a refined relaxing cruiser. This is more a racing tuned, V8 smoking 4 door saloon. Nice

Thanks for the info frewin, I can't wait now. I've always liked the Commodores ever since I've heard about them on here. They're big beefy and brash.

And it's bloody cheap for 420bhp isn't it. A Jag XKR has the same amount of power and costs £80,000 - £90,000.

420hp? 30,000 pounds? It's not the commodore then, it'll be an HSV, probably the Clubsport, possibly the GTS.

I don't like the VXR-8 moniker, too much like the XR8, and that's a bloody Ford.

It'll most likely be the new Monaro.

Ravenous, the Monaro is always the high performance Vauxhall, so they probably went straight to the top engine. So it is probably a HSV.

its all good. very nice car, the only muscle car us Britons get... dirt cheap, too, 36k for a 420hp 6.0-litre V8, with at least 500Nm torque? thats crazy... i might even get one second hand when im older for really cheap thrills. im guessing the residuals on it would be poor, so thats a bonus, too. im getting one in 5-6 years! :p

and btw the XKR starts at £67k for the XKR Coupé and £72,000 for the XKR Convertable :p. but yeah, comparitively, its stupidly cheap. i think its the only good-value car we get over here, comparing to Australia, New Zealand, Canada, the USA etc... they get a 210bhp 4.0-litre V6 Mustang for the equivalent of £11,500, with which you'd really struggle to get a new base 1.4-litre Ford Focus (79bhp) with... thats just stupid. or how about the 300bhp V8 GT for around £17,000, with which you could only just buy a £16,995 Golf 1.4 TSI Sport (140bhp) with?

crazyness. but yeah, as i said, the Monaro is about the only V8 thrills-for-your-money car available here... the real value performance cars over here are all hot hatches. nothing wrong with that :). but the 222bhp Focus ST-1, the cheapest real performance hot hatch, still costs £18,000... with the Golf GTI Edition 30 costing £23,000. its stupid. bloody taxes :p

there's no new Monaro, the Monaro name is dead. it is also no longer a two-door coupé, its now a four-door saloon. its gonna be called the Vauxhall VXR-8, im telling you now :)

it is gonna be Vauxhall's version of the Holden Commodore VE SS-V... its been confirmed. itll have a more sports tuned attitude about it, though...

There will be no new Monaro, Holden are resting the name again contrary to popular belief of a revival.

It will probably be the 307kw/550nm, Essentially the 412hp LS2 used by HSV put into an SS-V Commodore. As far as high performance tune I doubt it will get the same goodies as some HSV models such as the MRC suspension and 6 pot brakes, Especially at that price.

I read in the advertiser yesterday that once Holden begin building the export models they will be churning out a new car every 76 seconds at full production capacity.

Monaro is dead. Thats why the Vauxhall Monaro was discontinued. Because its not made here anymore. Holden concentrated on making the Commodore perfect so they didn't bother with the Monaro anymore. But the only HSV version of the Monaro was the GTO and GTS. So HSV used the SS-V/SS to produce the E Series GTS.

I'm surprised that only the HSV is going over. I'd thought they'd send over a Calais, Omega, SS/V, and a Statesman/Caprice, but particularly the Calais, or maybe the Senator.

I hope Vauxhall will learn from the slight mistake GM made with the G8 and put a more noticeable spoiler on the back. Also, that V-section with the griffin logo would probably be a pretty good addition. Also, those guys know how to tune an LS2 to produce more than 400 HP (but probably with either more or less torque).

LS2 engines come with 400bhp "stock".
the LS2 in the HSV's have 307kw, or 420(?)hp.

What would it's competitors be at both price and performance?

OK, I just wanted to point out that our LS2 is different to the LS2 in the C6 'Vette.

That's a variant of the LS2, known as the L98 (VZ had the L76)

How much is a; Jag S-Type R? BMW 550i? merc E500? Audi A6 4.2?

The Americans already have the Pontiac G8 so there's no need to have a Vauxhall over here.

The commodore uses a variation of the LS2 known as the L98 which is a further adaptation of the L76 in the Z-series.

They are related but have differences.

HSV - 307kw/412hp
SS Commodore - 270kw/365hp
