This may be old news for some but I personally feel that the Espada is a good car for Lambo to redo. I think it's a classic shape and a good addition to the Mur/Gal stable. Does anyone feel the same way? http://a332.g.akamai.net/f/332/936/12h/www.edmunds.com/media/il/news/2005/1004/lambo.espada.500.jpghttp://www.lamborghini.no/Biler%20til%20salgs/72_Lamborghini%20Espada%20II_01.jpghttp://www.lamborghini.no/Biler%20til%20salgs/72_Lamborghini%20Espada%20II_02.jpghttp://www.lambocars.com/archive/highres/espada1i.jpg

there were plans on doing it ..and so was the muira concept ..
but both were 'canned' ..
IMO Lambo does'nt need to revive or do revivals of their older cars..
last i heard of any new Lambo models was that they're working on a Super SUV to challenge the Cayyene /VW Touareg/ BMW X5/ Merc ML ..

The last thing Lamborghini needs is a SUV. Although I am quite fond of another 2+2 GT from Lambo, I don't think the Gallardo seats four. So yeah, maybe another Espada-like model will be good. A nice, front-engined GT to compete with the likes of 612 and DB9.

Besides those Gallardo knock-off wheels, I see somewhat of the original shape. I wonder what the front and rear look like though.

Like porsche with their cayenne.

I like it, a lot actually. I definately like it more than the 612, and it will probably be heavy like all the other models, but if they can keep the wieght down, then this Lambo will beat a 612 off the line and at the track, all while looking way better and keeping a classic shape of the companys history.

I love the new design, looks way nicer. This news was from a while ago...when the Lambo SUV pic came out

It looks pretty obscene from the side but I'm hoping Lambo does something if they really wanna' put that into production....

i like the old one, but not quite for the gallardo chopped one, is it a chop anyways?, well basically, its abit too long and abit ugly to the shape of a gallardo IMO, but the old one just looks damn fine

I don't think the Espadas function and design fits in with modern day designs.

Wow, if you're gonna redo a car, at least make it look half decent. It looks like an MPV for God's sake. The original Espada was a classic bit of machinery which a lot of people really liked. This one is some knock off with no passion.

The older espada pictured is a series 1. I would guess a 1969 model, that was made for the American market (regardless of the european number plate), with the added air conditioning option and the 5 spd tranny (It also has had the vertical rear window replaced). Last I heard there was only like 300 of them left. I tried to buy one of these, and even posted pics of the one I wanted once. The guy just wanted too much for the car, considering the shape it was in. The older espadas are a lot of fun to drive, but one has to remember that they are BIG cars, and never had the crisp handling and acceleration of a sports car. I have always believed that the espada was ahead of it's time, and appreciated the compromise between comfort and performance that it presented.

They shouldn't revive the Espada name in my opinion. They could make a cool 2+2, but they shouldn't use the Espada name... I don't think Lamborghini has ever done that before - used an old name - which is totally cool, because everybody else that revive old cars with the classic's names is usually a disgrace to the original car.

there is a certain class of people who appreciate the heritage of a great car, such as this. This would be the people who appreciate the best in life, the people who are well educated, well spoken, and have a taste for the finer things in life.
It is no wonder that you do not like it

I think Lamborghini should make a really small, light roadster like the Elise. But that might completely degrade the brand in some eyes. So I guess a SUV is the best way to go. A Ferrari 599 rival would be good, but then why would anyone buy a Murceilago?

The car had a lot of power for it's time. It ran the same GT 4 engine that ended up in the countach. At 170 MPH it was the fastest saloon on the street. It really was ahead of it's time
I buy a lot of cars based on the market, and what profit I can get once restored. Right now the value of vintage european is down, but this never lasts. The espada is a car I would really like to have
Think of things this way...If you bought a new lambo today, the value will depreciate drastically over the next 5 years. If you resold it after regular driving for this time, it would be worth about 60% of what you paid for it.
The price for the 69 espada that I was looking at was $10,000 (it was in poor shape). If I put another $20,000 into it for a full frame off restoration, I am still driving a car that cost me less than 1/2 of what I would sell it for. I also get the fun of owning and driving these old cars

I have to say its possible, afterall there owned by Audi, so there should be some senseble moves from lambo a head
Also what else are Lambo going to make, theres already the gallardo and LP640 taking care of any lambo supercar market needs. So the next step would be a gallardo or murcielargo replacement, doubt that will happen for a while, so some sort of a gt car seems very possible.

I am not really in favor of supercar makers going out of their way making SUVs. I think an SUV is the last thing an exotic brand needs. For me it takes the appeal and essence of it all. I mean, with the rate it's going we are not far from having..I mean I can't imagine a shootout between SUVs by Lambo, Ferrari and hell maybe even Pagani and Koenigsegg. Leave the SUVs to Mercedes, BMW and the rest or better yet to Land Rover. It's something I can't explain well but it feels just wrong.
I am however in favor of the whole reviving craze that the Americans are doing remakes of their rich muscle car heritage. Imagine European makes going in that direction such as the Ford GT. I think it's an excellent concept, not to mention timeless, and the Espada is for me a good example of that. Rich heritage plus superior engineering will go a long way.
On the other hand I am in favor of supercar makers doing 2+2s, in 2 or 4 door format. I think the trend that the MB CLS started is also a great idea, of 4 doors mimicking a coupe's shape/lines.
