View Full Version : Spoiler on WRX STi - absolutely necessary

Getting an STi next month, and want to reduce it's obvious prowess a bit - no decals, black wheels, etc., and the spoiler just makes it look a bit too boy-racery for me.
My question is this - is the dual-plane rear spoiler absolutely necessary? I can see where the handling would be affected at ultra-high speeds, but it's not very likely I'm ever going to be doing that, so can I have it taken off or replaced with a single level one, say from the WRX?
Thanks.

Yes, this can be fitted onto the STi, and you can have the WRX bonnet (hood) as well with the smaller intake if you like, just talk to the dealer nicely, if we'll do it for you here, i'm sure you can have it done also...

This is our STi, more powerful than the one in the US, can you tell me if the spoiler looks the same?? (I'm guessing you are in the US :?)

My advice: keep the hood with the larger intake, you need it for the large intercooler to work properly...

notice how the scoop for the WR1 is smaller than the STi, so I dont really think it makes a big difference... :?

Also, the STi's worldwide look identical, the only differences are mechanical, but honestly, SubaruKid37 has alllllll the information you'll probably need, I assume...!!!!!
No pressure!

Subaru kid, or anyone who knows...can you explain to me why the EVO is so much more expensive than the subaru?...i mean...at least here in italy, the EVO is 10 thousand more...but...i always thought from reading articles and stuff that the subaru had better "driving" performances...forgive my ignorance on the subject

That is ok, I think that the Subaru has much better road holding, but the EVO's are better trackday cars.
Like here in the UK, the EVO is more expensive, probably because it has a little more bhp and about 0.2 secs quicker 0-60.
They are also much rarer, as Mitsubishi never really advertised the cars until the EVO VIII came out, and by then the impreza's had the market, right from about 1995 as the "super-saloon", because they were more reliable, cheaper to run, cheaper to buy and the interior was not made entirely out of cheap plastics. Also Subaru advertised, and so got the better business. EVO's come accross as being equal to the Impreza, but just out of reach for the average man, whereas the Impreza is the car for anyone serious about performance and handling, and is within reach of most people!
Hope that helps a bit!

I just made a logical assumption...
I don't know, I'm positive the larger intake of the STi has sth to do with the aerodynamics or the intercooler and isn't just for the "wow"-factor... :-k

I prefer the larger intake, and a logical answer is always a good one  I am also certain that it helps with the intercooler, but probably not essential, although I just remembered the WR1 has an automatic water spray to keep the engine cool, so the smaller scoop is then ok!

although this topic has been somewhat dead.. i'd still keep the original hood scoop.. but do whatever with the wing

Imprezas and EVOs are everywhere here in Taiwan. I guess because they are cheaper to maintain and modify. However, those cars tend to leave a very bad impression on people 'cuz a lot of them are driven by rough-heads and young guys in their 20s who think they own the roads; driving recklessly, causing accidents etc... No disrespect SubaruKid, both are great cars. Funny thing is that cops here also tend to stop those cars on road checks more often than higher class-brand cars (Bimmer, Benz etc...) for speeding, snake-tailing, mods (exhausts, HIDs, blow-off valves), and cranking up the music like a nutter can land you with a hefty fine.  :o :D

I thought they were pretty evenly priced (WRX & EVO), at least here in the US. About $29k in American dollars. The STi is more, obviously...

I doubt it. The US STi gets the bigger 2.5L four-banger remember.
My opinion? Remove the wing, and put a front-mount on and discard those horrible air-intakes.

How interesting, i think your name is ignorant at best but refrain from bitching about it. My meaning is clear, rice boys can not afford WRXs most of the time so by taking offence to that are you trying say you want to be a rice boy (like the people you discribe in your first post) because if you are i suggest going on a mystical journy of sex and travel.

I guess he took it as an insult because he's from Taiwan.
