Do you guys think BMW has shot itself in the foot with the 335i? I don't know about all of you, but I think I'd rather pick up a 335i, put $10 grand into mods, hear the turbos spool up, and pocket the savings :D Only downside would be the M3 would have a warranty, where the modded 335i would not.

I suppose there will always be those that want the ///M badge, but I wonder if this upcoming M will sell as many as the E46.

Are they making a 4-door M3?

I have not heard anything about it.

I reallyl ike the E36 M3 sedans. Unfortunately every time I see one in a parking lot, it ends up being an automatic

They probably won't do a sedan M3 again. The regular 3-series are getting sporty enough.

So the M3 will be perfectly okay. It's 2 doors and has a new V8, which is more than the 335i.

it would appear so, but there are no official figures yet...so....
i'm not to sure, i think the 335i is a great car, but i think bmw will outdo itself with the M3, after all this car has been so much of a trademark for them

The M3 probably is going to be very different from the regular 3 series enough to kill that kind of toughts.
I would never settle with a straight 6 if i can get a high revving small displacement V8. BMW made.
And there is the chassis tuning. You probably are more likely to screw up the chassis balance of a 335i trying to tune it to match an M3, so why don't you get an M3 in the first place?

Let's face it. The 335i is fast, we know, but you already know it won't be as fast as the M3. It won't sound like the M3. It won't look like an M3. It won't handle like an M3. It won't feel like an M3. Fine, go ahead, get a 335i, tune it up, but you know when an M3 comes past, your always gona look away, tryin to hide the fact, you don't have an M3...............

i've already seen pictures of M3 4-doors being tested. so yes they will make it. and it was reported by magazines way long ago before any pictures of the car started showing up that they will make it because the american customers really liked the E-36 4-door. BMW realized they missed an opportunity by not offering the E-46 in a sedan. it's believed to also have the front end of the coupe M3 instead of the front end of the regular 3-series. check websites like leftlanenews.com and autoblog.com if you don't believe me. it's been posted on just about every blog site. probably even this one.

Ah. Yes, after checking those sources it seems that a 4-door M3 might be in the works. Nothing is for certain right now but the likelihood is very high.

The M3 has already kinda set itself in stone as being a car that nearly everyone wants. The 335i is a great car. Nearly eliminating all turbo tag with the bi-turbo system they have is AWESOME! But...it's not an M3. The M3 is just different, it doesnt matter how you cut. Is it better, for some yes, not for all. I can't wait for the M3 to come out. Odds are, I'll probably be pissed and upset at the styling. In fact, theres about a 100% chance I'll be upset at the styling. The E46 M3 is one of the sexiest cars out there and awesome to be in. But oh well, I can always hope they can come out with a M3 GT-R. I mean, there is hope anyway.

Man I hate Chris Bangle.

I am pretty sure the new M3 is going to be the most awesome BMW in years.
BMW is known for making almost-perfect-in-every-way engines, and i know the new M3's engine is going to be the best engine on the M3 history.

^^^As long as perfect in every way means only perfect above 5,000rpm.

It'll be a shame, BMW is famous for high revving straight sixes, and now they're slowly destroying a bit of themselves.

At least the styling shouldn't be as controversial as the M5. Apparently they didn't let Bungle too close to it. But it's still not gonna be an E46...

well now those spy photos are getting old, well you see, real cars have been tested...i think, well at least i saw the rear of that M3 and it was ugly...

well i would definatly go for the 335i for this one, thuogh i really love the engines of the M series roar, the turbo, is great, no turbo lag, well theres some, but you cant feel that alot, the M has its own speciality, you dont get some of the good and bad stuff(which sometimes are uber good) on the car, though i would still take the 335i until they really launch it over here at HK, but still i think the 335i is still worth it over the M3...

Awesome post, exactly what I was thinking. A 335i is a 335i, but it's certainly not an M3. Part of buying a nice car is the joy of ownership.

I'd rather just get a 335i. It's simply perfect. It's very fast but extremely comfortable. The M3 will be faster, yes, but it won't be no way near as livable and comfortable as the 335i.
