A new Caterham - and I have checked and searched but no-one else has done this yet! Woo! Go me! Anyway, it uses a 150 bhp Ford Sigma engine

LOL, the website has information on the hp and weight of the vehicle, but the hp to weight ratio is unavailable:p

It's really cool but I'm not a fan of the side windows. Looks like you can leave those off like a Jeep Wrangler.

Meh. I can't see any difference. It may have a little extra horses, but it's still not satisfying at all because they were so dumb to let out the news that they were considering a 2.4 liter V8 similar to the one found in the Caparo....
then they dropped it because of too high costs. There were still sold 14 cars though - prototypes, apparently. They're somewhere on the roads today.

hahahahahah
I laugh at your silly 4 cyl sports cars.
what you want are these: http://www.elfin.com.au/elfin/2006/
Both of these cars come with a 5.7L V8 producing 245kw (and a 470kW/830Nm PWR supercharged option:D) in a car weighing around 1000kg depending on what else you want.:-k
The scary thing is, Walkinshaw is planning to homologate these for the production car racing class:eek:

But it says the power to weight ratio is unavailable in the spec chart.

Um, I guess it is okay. But they shoul have done something more major. I don't find it that appealing.

lol. I would like to see a Caterham and an Elfin race each other to see which PW (Power-Weight) dominates.

Elfin Streamliner (with PWR SC) : ~570bhp/tonne
Elfin Streamliner: ~300bhp/tonne
Elfin Clubman: ~318bhp/tonne
Caterham seven: ~270bhp/tonne
Actually I don't think homologating the Streamliner would be fair; it has better power-to-weight than anything else (M3: ~222bhp/tonne, E-Series GTS: ~260bhp/tonne, M5: ~270bhp/tonne). And it has more than enough power, and would be the lightest car on track (with the widest wheels).
But oh well. They deserve to dominate all.

Nice little car. I would still choose an Ariel Atom over one of these because the Ariel looks a lot more modern, and is a little more hardcore.
Come to think of it, I'd choose an Ariel over an Elfin aswell.

Who do you think created the lightweight track day machine? Lotus, who are, may I remind you, British. The Lotus Seven rights were sold to Caterham and Westfield. The Caterhams are was better than the butt ugly Elfins. Ariel Atoms (also british) are cool too.

^^ what does the fact that its british have to do with anything?
does it beign british add horsepower or make it turn faster around corners simply because yo can say its made in britain?
no, so stop being a new breed of ricer, the kind where you slap a title on a car and judge it by said title.
If i put a sticker on a car its either fast or slow, and I pick the faster over the other, but it seems to be a trend for other people to put the stickers of "british" or "not british" and simply because of said title/sticker people belive that car to be better than others.
you know what? im gonna make a sticker. its gonna say british on it. Im gonna put it on my jeep and see if that makes it perform better.

How are Caterhams better than Elfins? And why does nationality matter?

Hell, the Elfin may not be as fast as a Caterham or an Atom, but at least it has a proper engine. I'd take an Elfin over either of the others any day.

The Elfin would be faster than the Caterham (the Streamliner demolished the Seven at last years Targa Tasmania), though probably not as fast (stock 245kw) as the supercharged (225kw) Atom around a track. However, the Elfin has a boot, windscreen, radio, and a piece of carpet, and therefore is more luxurious than the seven and the Atom.
I'd also like to point out that the Elfin is the only one that can drift well.

Caterham is like a Morgan on a reduced scale, in style and functionality. I like them because the would be good track cars, but all they really are is a kit car for the road.
TBR 427, since when has drifting been good for going fast around corners, sliding looses time, looks good, but looses time.

you forgot sliding is also fun. It ads to the involvement when you are sitting arse-over-axle and the car is sideways.

Of course it is fun, and can also end up biting you in the arse, but I was simply pointing out that if you want quick lap times, sliding may not be the best way to do it.

I know, just saying that the Elfin is good for something other than qualifying laps.

Agreed, now if we could buy a pair and go to the German ring.

The caterham looks the same as the other models, and it doesn't have enough power.
Whereas if you look at the elfin, it has plenty of power, everyday items such as radio etc etc, is more comfortable than the others and a crazy power-to-weight ratio! It would definitely kick ass....Elfin for me anytime...
