any E39 M5. They go crazy fast, sexy as hell, 4 doors, sound great, surprisingly modifiable, not designed by Chris Bangle, and its just amazing. You can actually USE this car. I know half the people out there are gonna start sayin, Ferrari 360, or 355, I'm sure the bowtie fanboys will say Z06 and pocket the rest of the money, you're gonna get the ricers sayin SKYLINEEE IT RULLZZZ!!!!

Overall, if you want ONE car that will do absolutly everything you would ever want to do in a car (other then off-road) Get the M5, you won't be disappointed.

He had the M6 in mind but was thinking whether he should get an 05' bentley gt or db9. 170k wouldnt be able to get him a ferrari. Im pretty sure he would get the ferrari if it was 170k.

If this thread is real, which I do doubt, yeah he could easily get a Ferrari for 170K, you can get nearly ANY car for 170K with the exception of the ULTRA exotic and the absolutly brand new supercars. You can get 05 Ferrari for 170 thousand. You can get a Porsche Turbo, GT2, GT3. An Aston Martin would be nice, you can get one of those if you want, some brand new. Honestly, you can get nearly anything, so just pick the neatest one you can find because you're parents can obviously get you anything you want. Go with the absolutly show boatist one as thats the reason you're asking us which car to get with 170 thousand. I still stand by my opinion of M5, but I may be changing my opinion to go **** yourself.

Triple Black 997 GT3, thats sooo easy. Nice track car, great for the road, take the left over money to get new rims, and an exhaust system.

Just woke up actually from having a dream of driving one and getting it sideways after getting kicked out of a party, pretty random.

Honestly, I don't think there aren't many bad cars for 170K. Someone willing to part with that much $$ should decide which features he wants and get the car that fits his critera the best. Personally, I would either get a Lamborghini Gallardo for its WOW factor and power, or an F430 for its driving characteristics.

That'll do anything you want a car to do.

So, like everyone here will say:

An Eleanorris. It's awesome - It comes with an engine with more than plenty of power, airconditioning, a 1200 watt sound system, and a bottle of nawz. Best of all is that his neighbour won't have one too. The bad thing is that there's a delivery time of more than a year, but and old saying goes: "good shít comes to those with patience"... or somthing along the lines of that.

Otherwise there's always the R8, but I'll suggest that he waits for the 2008/9 verson with the new V10 engine... or maybe not. How much do used Maranellos go for these days?

Come thats pushing it a bit far. Just because the gearbox isn't that great on road doesn't make it a track car:p
On a more serious note there have been Commodores with 600kg weight advantages over this so called "track car". As for the styling, it looks like the star ship Enterprise made sweet love to a Nissan Cube.

With 170K USD. An older Bathurst homoglation Commodore. A new Commodore SS and a Caterham 7 entry model.

i good choice if you want a balance of comfort and power would be an Audi RS4 or a BMW M5, two fanatastic cars, they can't be beaten for 4 door luxury and power, and there quite reliable

yup^^ Ford GT

Not to be a dick or anything but this is ridiculous. Anyone with 170 grand either knows what he wants to drive or has the kind of friends who will tell him what to get.... Because they have one, not because of a bunch of faceless people on a car forum... That said, find a late 80's AMG Hammer and have fun.

..I agree, anyone with that kind of money doesn't consider what people on a car forum think.

but just to add what i would get, a S600, or if you don't like 4 doors get a CL600, its a car that will get you from A-B fast, comfortably, and the S600 is a fully loaded S550 with a V12, and it can drive itself.

Then I would use the ~$150,000 I would have left to pay my mom back for all the crap I bought using her credit cards as well as living with my brother for a little bit and paying the rent with him.

Ferrari 3609 (1999 - 2003 ranges from $90K-$200)
Ferrari 355
Ferrari 456
Lamborghini Gallardo
Aston Martin DB9
MB SL65 AMG

If I had $170,000, I wouldn't ask people what to buy. Like monkeyfkker said, people with this kind of money should know what kind of car he wants to drive.

Feb 07, 2007, 8:59 PM
I'd buy a nice car. Not something over the top, save the money for something else. Maybe a BMW 550i? It's fast, handles very well, looks ok (IMO), and is a reasonable price compared to the other cars you were considering.

no offense to anyone out there questioning the credibility of my questions but aren't you being a little too simple minded here. my friend is 19 (dont ask me why a 19 yo kid has 170k), both of us know nothing about cars so I decided to help him ask around since i visit this forums at times. i understand why you guys are being doubtful but hey, isnt this forum supposed to be a place where people get info and help on cars?
well it doesnt matter, anyway he test drived the slk55 today, and he really like it alot because of the shape of the car and stuff etc. but he is caught in the middle between a 2 door or the old cl500 which is a 2nd hand car. practicality wise he thinks the cl500 would be a better choice as he is still a student. what do you guys think about handling and performance of the 2 cars?

Evo_power
Feb 08, 2007, 1:49 AM
SLK is a chick car, I honestly don't care how fast it goes. Also, the new SLK is ugly, very ugly. Anyone who thinks otherwise is ugly too. Get the CL, its a very nice car. You don't need a car that will get 200 miles an hour anyway. If you seriously need more speed then the CL600, the go buy a race car.

honda s2000, work it over, i dont something that the running costs are extreme, sure a worked s2k would be high but nothing like a supercar, it costs 30,000 pounds to service a mclaren F1

SupraMan
Feb 08, 2007, 5:34 AM
I would get a second-hand Honda NSX.. Ferrari styling for a fraction of the price. Plus the performance on that thing isnt bad either, but it seems like your friend is more into premium luxory cars instead of Japanese sports cars, so my choice in that category would be a Bentley GT.

oops i forgot this was posted under the European cars section...

Sport sedan : BMW e60 M5 , it is beautiful , it is roomy and can fit 4 people easily , it is very powerful and handles great , it is the ultimate sports sedan IMO .

Sportscar : Porsche 997 GT3 , it is wild , very powerful , soooo beautiful ! very Fun , also a track monster if you will have track days , it is the Perfect car in my book .

or the 997 Turbo which is the best everyday supercar you can ever get ... it is more userday friendly than the GT3 .

Think of these 3 cars ^ and you won't regret it . (or he , if it's your friend who is going to buy the car)

see, thats where you loose all creditability. i can understand someone having money, and not knowing what to do with it, but 19 yrs old, thats a pretty unique situation right there. I personally don't believe your friend has 170,000 to spend on a car, unless you explain how someone his age gets that kind of money.

In that case, if he is 19, don't get a car, buy a house.

The new SLK is not a chick car, the styling is derived from the SLR McLaren, its nice, plus its got a retractable hard top.

and an SLK 55 is by far not a chick car.

Well the previous RS6 was better than the previous M5.
I reckon it'll be a good match, they both have V10s too don't they? But Audi just gives you the edge on handling and build quality.

In that case, if he is 19, don't get a car, buy a house.

Or, an education?

A CL500? That's histerical:smt005. He's nineteen you said right? That's an old mans car:smt046

No, to me, when you're 19 in a 170000$ car (!!), you like a jerk.
Tell him to get something (or two) funky like a Cooper S, old M3 or S4, Focus ST, Clio 182 Trophy (will keep up with the best!), 350Z, RX-8... And keep the +100000$ remaining !
But I know he'll never even consider those.

EriK23z
Feb 09, 2007, 9:17 PM
I wouldn't put that kind of money on a car. I'm sure you worked really hard to get that kind of money but its not worth it in buying something that will depreciate over time. Buy a home (wait til it appreciates then sell it) or invest your money through stocks, bonds, or mutual funds.

From my point of view, you should invest the money that you worked hard for and then spend the money that your money made. Its a lot more fun to spend it if you know somebody else worked for that money. In that case, your money made some more of that. Think about it.
